Careful pawsteps left little to no trace behind as Nightbird leaped from tree branch to tree branch, the only indication of his presence the occasional scattering of leaves when his paws made contact. He’d always enjoyed staying up above in the trees, but with the looking threat of dogs now on the forefront of SkyClan’s mind, it wasn’t as if he had much of a choice. The dogs couldn’t climb trees like they could, so it was truly a no brainer. The only downside he saw to this, of course, was that he was now joined in the canopies by more cats than ever. Though he didn’t necessarily mind their presence, he had never been one for small talk, and any attempt was typically pretty awkward for him. Birdsong kept him company more than anything, which he was appreciative of.
Speaking of birds… The sleek-furred tom spotted a sparrow in the next tree over. It was quietly preening its feathers, and had not an inkling of his presence. Muscle memory kicked in, and Nightbird prepared himself to pounce forward onto the branch, which was just within reach… Or so he thought. His outstretched claws just barely caught the edge of the branch, and he watched as the sparrow startled and flew away in a rush. The commotion of it all sent twigs and leaves scattering down, snapping as they hit the forest floor. Nightbird managed to pull himself up from the branch fairly quickly, but something else was of bigger concern to him now… A rancid, disgusting smell was wafting from down below.
Wide black eyes stared up at him from the base of the tree, glinting in rays of sunlight that beamed down between the leaves. There was only a split second between Nightbird realizing that his failure had attracted a beast that SkyClan had been hunting for days and the very same beast releasing a blood curdling howl. Nightbird knew his patrol-mates were nearby… Surely they’d hear and come running. Knowing what this creature had done to his Clanmates, he couldn’t stand there like a coward as it practically bragged about what it had done. Steadying himself, he positioned himself above the dog and braced for impact as he leapt down, landing squarely on the shoulders of the dog and tearing into anywhere he could gain purchase. He wouldn’t be able to stay in this position long, so he could only hope help would arrive soon.

Ever since the cats had disturbed her and her mate, she had been out for revenge. They were far from friendly creatures, and so long as she and her mate were lost here, with nowhere to go, the cats would suffer for their attempts to hunt the two of them. They were lost, scared... Just trying to survive, and were hunted like vermin? Well, two could play that game.
The commotion of leaves and twigs scattering amid a startled bird's flight had attracted the dog's attention, and eyes dark with malice gazed up at the patchwork creature in the trees. A failed hunt... How cute. The dog let out a howl meant to startle, meant to announce her presence. She couldn't climb trees... But the cat could not remain up there forever.
Claws attempted to dig into her back and the dog twisted, a guttural snarl escaping her as she tried to shake off the foul creature. Shake it off of her and it would be in the ground in easy reach...
Now that we don't have the system, a roll of the effect dice will determine if your character successfully attacks the dog (or if the dog successfully attacks you.) A roll of 1-3 is a miss, 4-6 is a successful hit. Three successful hits will be enough to make the dog flee this time, while 3 successful attacks against a cat will result in a KO.

Luckily for Nightbird, the rest of the patrol was not far behind. With a war cry meant to alert the others, Lighttail dashed in to aid. She reared up on her hind legs, swiping both pawfuls of unsheathed claws at the dog’s face. Much to her horror, the creature jerked its head aside and her paws met only air. Still, at least it was outnumbered now.
Nightbird: 0/3 Dog: 0/3 Lighttail: 0/3
