Though not usually his favorite task, Hemlockfox was actually looking forward to tonight's trip to the moonstone. The air in the camp was stifling. Nectarflower was still far too hurt to walk or do much of anything on her own and as WindClan's only medicine cat, it fell to him to take care of her every need. That by itself, though, didn't really bother the seal point tom. It was what happened after Nectarflower's injury that had truly shaken him...which was saying something. It wasn't often that he was truly bothered by something, but when Sootstorm died...
Hemlockfox stopped for a moment, his paw hovering in the air. He'd never lost a cat before. In all of his moons as a medicine cat, he'd never let one of his patients die. It felt...horrible. Perhaps worse than when Bubblebeam had been wounded on his watch. It wasn't a foreign emotion, guilt, but never before had he failed so badly that it resulted in a cat's death. He should have seen the signs - should have known something was wrong - should have gotten to Sootstorm sooner.
But he didn't. And now he was dead.
And yet, time still moved. Apprentices still trained and needed to speak with StarClan. He shouldn't even be upset over this - it wasn't like he was particularly close to the spotted tom. They weren't even real clanmates. With a firm shake of his head, the fluffy tom trudged towards the focus of tonight's trip - Cricketpaw. He didn't know the young tom and, especially tonight, couldn't bring himself to even pretend to want to. "Get up Cricketpaw. I'm taking you to the Moonstone."

One ear flicked and Cricketpaw raised his head at Hemlockfox's voice, blinking. His Moonstone, that's right. Despite Cloudypetal's disappearance, StarClan still wanted to speak with him.
Wallowing wasn't something Cricketpaw was inclined to do. Not originally, at least. But the loss of Cloudypetal was a big blow to him; she was like family. She was the only one that could relate at least somewhat to his disability, as she was also disabled. She encouraged him and didn't look at him any differently. He missed her terribly...but at least amidst all the loss in WindClan, he and Spiderpaw had grown a bit closer as they both grieved for Cloudypetal.
Cricketpaw got to his feet, nodding. "I'm ready when you are, Hemlockfox," he mewed, offering the medicine cat a polite smile. His heart wasn't fully in it, however, the smile not quite reaching his eyes.
Hemlockfox stared down at Cricketpaw for a moment, his blue eyes frosty, and nodded. Cricketpaw was a stranger to him - as much of the clan still was - so he wasn't really sure what type of cat the young tom was. Regardless, he seemed respectful enough so, with a flick of his tail, the medicine cat turned and padded out of the camp with little more than a backwards glance. "Come along then." It was cloudy overhead, but nothing that should interfere with their task tonight. "...How are you?" He meowed after a moment. The many losses hadn't bothered him much, but Cricketpaw had to be hurting. At least a little.
To be totally honest, Hemlockfox didn't quite care how some apprentice from WindClan was doing, but it would be rude not to ask. Besides, if his sisters were truly ever to join him here, he had to at least make an okay impression. Had Cricketpaw been close to any of the cats that had passed, even? Was he kin with any of them? Friends? Did it really matter? Cats came and went from life all of the time - especially out in the wild. It was something everyone had to suffer. Not SkyClan, though. They were better than this - stronger than this.
