Nectarflower laid in her nest in the medicine cat den green eyes dim and half-lidded as she rested. It had been a few days since she and Larchpaw had that run-in with the dog and their new medicine cat, Hemlockfox, had already broken the news to her that her injuries were beyond repair. It was mostly her left foreleg that would never work properly again, but even her breathing had become difficult since the fight. Her throat was packed with cobwebs and various poultices so, at this point, Nectarflower wasn't sure if she was even allowed to talk.

She certainly wasn't allowed to move, as Hemlockfox had not-so-nicely let her know when she tried that morning. Apparently, the chance of her aggravating her injuries and maybe getting an infection was worth the snappiness. With a heavy sigh, the tortoiseshell shifted in her nest of moss and heather, suppressing a hiss as the movement tugged at her wounds. It hurt more in her leg, which she could hardly bear to move right now. Hemlockfox had said the dog had broken a bone high in her leg - almost near her shoulder - which was the part that likely wouldn't heal.

Nectarflower buried her face into the nest as tears pricked the corners of her eyes. Would she ever be able to run again? How could she possibly be a warrior with a broken leg and what would likely be breathing problems for the rest of her life? Usually, the scent of her clanmates bustling around nearby would relax her, but it only served to push her deeper into this dark pit in the back of her mind. She could tell that her kin and close friends had visted recently, but nobody knew she was awake yet...hopefully, they would come soon. She could really use the distraction.

You can’t fix the past, but you can change the future.

When Nectarflower had been dragged, unconscious and bloody, into camp, Sootstorm had thought she had died, and even after he was told she was fine, he couldn't keep his worry away. Quickfrost was gone, missing they told him, gone off on a patrol with Tallshadow that neither of them returned from. And now his first apprentice, perhaps the one he was the closest to, was trapped in the medicine cat's den, covered by more cobwebs than fur. It made him sick to his stomach, watching her struggle to even breathe. She was a WindClan warrior, known for her speed and agility. She loved the moor. And the Flower Fields... she would see them again, and even if she couldn't get there again, he'd pick the nicest blooms with the most vibrant colours to her.

He had took time out of his busy scheduel to visit her every day, offering Hemlockfox assistance should he need any, though all his offers had been rejected. The deputy could only trust the former SkyClanner with his friend's health. Today, as he enterred the den with a bundle of small daisies-- some of the season's earliest blooms-- he caught sight of familiar green eyes. She was awake. That alone filled him with relief, as if a mountain of pebbles had rolled off his shoulders, and swiftly he rushed to her side, pausing in time to stop himself from crashing into her. Gently, he touched his nose to her cheek in greeting, then carefully rested the daisies at her paws. Could she even speak in this state? Would she ever be able to speak again? Hemlockfox had told them many times before that only time would tell, but still the dappled tom wished he could have some answers now.

"How are you feeling? Do you need anything? Feathers, soft bedding, prey, water, anything?" He prompted her, hoping to hear even a word from her. Stars, he missed her voice. She wouldn't leave him after this, right? Not like Tallshadow and Quickfrost had... she'd stay, wouldn't she?
