Poppyshine

The lake trip had stolen a lot from everyone. Poppyshine had lost her own son on that trip, something that she desperately tried not to think about too hard. Instead her mind turned to her clanmates and in particular…Ripplesong. The new queen had certainly lost a lot in that trip. Poppyshine mourned the loss of those cats as well, but it would feel all the worse for someone directly in the family. Ripplesong had her own friends with the other queens, but Poppyshine still didn’t want her to feel alone in any way.

She entered the nursery and smiled at Ripplesong. “Good morning. Have you been sleeping alright?” She settled down in front of the queen and her tail wrapped around her feet. “I wanted to check in and…and see how you were doing.”

Ripplesong raised her head and yawned at Poppyshine's unexpected entry.
"Ahh, sorry," she apologized. "Good morining Poppyshine. What brings you here so early, of all places?" she greeted the deputy in a hushed tone. Early golden dawn light shafted in from the den entrance and silhouetted the mollie's coat brilliantly. Ripplesong squinted against it.

"Oh. I'm sleeping... better," she mewed in response. "Better than before." She gestured with her tail to her fellow sleeping queens and the tiny snores of countless bundles of fluff nestled into their mothers' bellies. "It was hard to adjust to at first," she admitted. "But now, I feel like I need the noise to sleep," she added with a soft chuckle. "And they keep me busy. It helps to be distracted, you know? I'm not having as many... nightmares." Her teal blue gaze reached Poppyshine's and a soft purr rumbled in her chest.

"Thank you for checking on me. How about you?" she asked, sitting up in her nest and leaning a bit closer.
