"The weak never have their wings unfurl."
Silverhawk T3 Warrior | ShadowClan | he/him
Even though Quillsplash was the younger between them, Silverhawk let him take the lead on their patrol. He wanted to watch the tom while they walked together; assess what he was truly made of. He'd joined the Clan when Silverhawk was too caught up in himself to pay much attention to the rest of the world. Because of that, he actually knew very little about Quillsplash: he took Silverhawk's place as Pineblossom's apprentice; Hedgepaw loved him, for whatever reason; and the other tom was strange, either as a defect of being rogue-born or as a result of what happened with Crowspirit. Silverhawk's ears slicked back when the thought came to mind. Maybe Quillsplash only disquieted him because of their similarities... Or it was because there was something off about Quillsplash, and he'd been right along.
Shaking his head, Silverhawk finally decided to sidle forward and walk at Quillsplash's shoulder rather than dissecting him visually. "You know what?" he mewed, cocking his head in Quillsplash's direction. "I've never really talked to you, Quillsplash." Silverhawk flashed a smile, toothy and plastic. With a breathy chuckle, he went on, "I've heard plenty of good things about you from Hedge, though. So: how's training going?" He rolled his shoulders, all casual, but there was something a little more serious in the depth of his eyes. "Is she picking everything up well? Hunting, fighting, the Code-- taking all that in?"

Everything I say is a lie, but they’re the only things keeping me alive
If there was one thing Quillsplash knew not to do, it was to trust any cat who smiled at him too much. It just wasn't natural to associate him with... smiling. And such was the case with Silverhawk. Pineblossom's apprentice before him, and the tom that Hedgepaw always looked up to. Basically himself, but better. Something was off about the tom, however. Something sly and deceptive just biding its time under the surface. It made his fur prickle to think about.
As Silverhawk began speaking, the tom forced himself to nod along in what he could only hope was a friendly way. He really didn't want trouble... Stars, the tom's smile really did make his skin crawl. It made him want to take every word coming out of the silver tabby's mouth as an insult, but he knew that he had to keep his cool. "She's good at hunting-- practically mastered it, in fact. She's started learning defensive moves, and is doing well at it so far," Quillsplash replied honestly, wondering what Silverhawk could possibly want. His brows furrowed at the last bit of the question, and without thinking through his words, he asked in a softer tone, "I thought the Code was only taught during the kithood?"

Silverhawk T3 Warrior | ShadowClan | he/him
To his credit, Quillsplash nodded along like he was listening, understanding. He even spoke back, like he knew how to conduct himself. Silverhawk's smile grew a little wider at the simple responses. There was something genuine to his smile-- he was always pleased to hear his siblings were taking well to training. "Good," he said, taking his turn to bob his head. "I'm sure with a mentor such as yourself, she'll be brilliant in no time." The flatteries were meaningless, but Silverhawk understood how effective they often were. He had his doubts about whether they would work on Quillsplash, but there was no harm in trying. Even if it made him feel strange to praise the other tom.
Though Quillsplash's words gave him pause. Silverhawk's steps grew to a gradual halt and he looked at his patrolmate curiously. "No, no," Silverhawk said, shaking his head. "Oh, Quillsplash, no. I mean... yes, you start learning it as a kit, but your mentor teaches you all of it. Enforces it." Silverhawk's tail bobbed left to right. There was almost pity in his eyes before he remembered Quillsplash was Pineblossom's apprentice, and he knew his mother would have taught the Warrior Code properly. Silverhawk wasn't sure whether to allow his sense of vindictive pride or the instinctive concern for Hedge's training to win. He decided on the latter and took up the same quiet tone to ask, "You do know the Code, don't you, Quillsplash?"

Everything I say is a lie, but they’re the only things keeping me alive
Quillsplash knew he messed up when Silverhawk slowed to a halt. He too stopped, swallowing nervously as the other began speaking in a soft, almost pitying tone. It made his skin itch. Of course I know that, he wanted to snap, but that'd be a lie, because he did not in fact know any of what Silverhawk was telling him, which only made his ears burn with shame. A mentor was supposed to enforce the Warrior Code? Quillsplash racked his mind in search of a memory of Pineblossom or Swiftheart going through it with him, but couldn't recollect any thing. In his defense, it was pretty hard to focus on anyone's words when he couldn't see their face. Well, he couldn't tell that to Silverhawk, could he? The tortoiseshell was left speechless while his patrolmate regarded him. "Well, I know most of it..." He settled on muttering, finding his response pathetic to even his own ears. He knew the gist of what was right and what was wrong, and that was about it.
