Subject: Sagepaw's Warrior Ceremony Wed 13 Mar 2024 - 18:12
Leopardstar ascended the Jaggedrock, voice carrying loud and clear to catch her the attention of her clanmates. It was always exciting, the naming of a new warrior; and moreso now, the knowledge that for once their numbers were growing rather than shrinking.
"All cats old enough to silently stalk in the shadows, please gather in the shadow of the Jaggedrock for a Clan meeting!"

Sunflare was quick to answer the summons, all but materializing out of the shadows. The cinnamon tom slithered over to his rightful place at the head of the crowd. Once again, he’d brought forth a fine warrior for his clan.

Sagepaw had such a busy brain that night that when he heard Leopardstar call for a clan meeting, he absentmindedly brought the rat he caught earlier in the night with him. He hadn't realized what he was doing until his rump hit the ground and he noticed his head felt heavier than normal. Then it hit him and a shock of panic snapped the apprentice to his paws. "MFFRRGGHHH!!!" He screamed through the rat's fur before he bolted to the fresh-kill pile. He threw it with all of his strength and it was hurled through the air for all it was worth. It splatted against other rodents and a few birds and lizards, but Sagepaw didn't know if he'd have time to fix the pile.
His head jerked one way toward the meeting, then again to the pile, then back to the meeting, his indecision and panic plain as night on his face. Eventually he high-tailed it back to the meeting. He came to a sliding stop onto his rump right in front of the jagged rock, his eyes wide and his lip tight with embarrassment. "Sorry..." He mouthed toward Leopardstar, then sat there as still as a statue wishing he could become a puddle of water on the ground.

Leopardstar forced herself to swallow a laugh as the apprentice she was searching for carried a rat with them, and visibly panicked once he noticed; throwing it in the right direction and running back toward the meeting.
"We are gathered here today to witness the naming of a new warrior. Sagepaw, please step forward."
She waited for him to do so before speaking again. "I call upon the warriors of ShadowClan to gaze upon this apprentice. He has trained hard to understand the ways of our honorable code, and I commend him to you as a warrior in turn."
The leader held his gaze, searching as she often did. Was he excited, underneath the anxiety?
"Sagepaw, do you swear to uphold the warrior code? To protect and defend your Clan, even at the cost of your life?"

Sagepaw hadn't been expecting to be made a warrior so soon. He stepped forward, his fumble with the rat forgotten. He listened to the ceremonial words and the odd momenary panic of forgetting his own line gave his heart a jumpstart. He did remember though, which was foolish to think he could forget them. "I do." he confirmed. The words left his mouth like a sigh of relief. He made it. He was worth something after all.
Leopardstar nodded in acknowledgement. "Then it is my honor to name you as a warrior before all of ShadowClan."
Sagepaw was patient--a trait that many of his Clanmates seemed to lack, and one that deserved respect. Ambushes relied as much on the ability to lie patiently in wait as they did the power of the eventual strike.
She had considered that when thinking what names might suit him, and had finally come to a decision.
"We keep to the shadows, lying in wait. Waiting for the right time to strike is just as important as the skill and strength behind it.
From this day forward, you will be known as Sagefeather. ShadowClan honors your patience and humility, and we are proud to welcome you as a warrior in your own right."
She leapt to the ground in a single swift motion, lightly touching her nose to the newly-named warrior's shoulder.
"Congratulations, Sagefeather. Take time to rest and celebrate before your vigil."

Larkshine took off running when Leopardstar called a clan meeting. She was late again! She came to a sliding halt at the back of the clan. She noticed Sagepaw standing in front of the clan leader. 'Oh, this must be his warrior ceremony!' She purred to herself. She waited until Leopardstar was done speaking before making her way to the front of the meeting. “Congratulations Sagefeather!” Larkshine mewed flicking her tail across his back.
