Safe within the warm walls of the nursery, Firekit was crouched behind the lip of a freshly made nest, his yellow eyes locked onto Hornetkit's familiar pelt. Clutched between his jaws was a swath of water-logged moss and boy oh boy was Firekit looking forward to absolutely soaking his brother! Grinning around the moss in his mouth, the black and red kit resolved to wait until his unsuspecting littermate wandered within striking distance. Hornetkit came closer and closer and, with each step, Firekit hunkered further down beneath the nest.
Finally, once the orange kit was close enough, Firekit leapt from his hiding place and gleefully bowled over his brother. Pressing him into the nest so as not to actually hurt him, Firekit clamped down on the bundle of moss in his mouth, sending a small cascade of water down upon Hornetkit. Purring with delight, the tom threw the damp moss to the side and bounded away from the now soggy Hornetkit. "Gotcha!" He exclaimed brightly. Finally, he'd done it! Why had he done it? Well, Firekit wasn't really sure, it just seemed like it would be funny and it had been!
Dancing from one paw to the other, Firekit watched as his brother recovered from the assault, fully aware that he wouldn't take the attack lying down. "C'mon! You gonna come get me or not!?" He demanded. It had been a painfully boring day thus far and Firekit was absolutely bursting with energy, just itching to do something! It that something was harassing his littermates, then so be it! It beat wandering around the camp for sure. Those warriors were no joke - some of them were downright terrifying! Yes, it was much more relaxing here, surrounded by his kin.

Someone had to try out this new nest, and Hornetkit was the perfect little helper for that task. The kitten slept soundly while buried in the moss. His back and the orange tufts on it rose and fell slow and peacefully, as each exhale became a snore. His head was full of rabbits running fast, making his legs twitch. As he ran he came closer and closer to the hind of a hazel-brown rabbit. Almost there... Almost there...
Sploosh!
Suddenly his pelt was full of cold water. The dampness was itchier than fleas! "Ahhh!" Hornetkit exclaimed, barreling out of the nest in a pointless attempt to flee the startling feeling. He desperately shook himself dry but some stubborn water stuck to his tufts. The kitten turned toward his attacker standing dry and proud, hopping with laughter. "Oh," he hesitantly chuckled, "Just a prank." Firekit was more mischievous than any of his siblings, whose escapades he often made himself an accomplice to. Not as though he liked causing trouble, but because he enjoyed the time shared with his brother. "You better run!" he roared playfully, giving Firekit a few moments to get ahead.

Firekit snickered loudly as Hornetkit practically flew out of the nest, spraying droplets of water in all directions as he shook himself out. The tortoiseshell tom ducked his head to avoid a fine mist of water, his whiskers twitching in amusement. For a moment, his chest tightened, worried that he'd truly upset his littermate. Though, once Hornetkit realized he wasn't, in fact, being attacked, he calmed down enough for Firekit to resume laughing in his face. See, nothing to be upset about! It was just a harmless joke, but regardless, Firekit was glad his brother wasn't angry.
After a moment of silence, Hornetkit kicked into gear and Firekit shrieked playfully before tearing away across the nursery, sending moss and bits of bracken in all directions. "Aaahhh! No, scary beast, don't get me!" Once safely huddled in a nest across the den, Firekit examined Hornetkit for a moment, then finally concluded that he was definitely a lion. And, shortly after that revelation, decided that he most certain wasn't afraid of a fictional creature. "Oh! I mean - ahem - do your worst! I'm the strongest warrior in SkyClan!! I eat feather-brains like you all the time!"

As Firekit fled, the so-called Scary Beast gave his best roar. His fur fluffed out to double his size. "Fear me!" he roared again, but his prey didn't seem too scared anymore. Hornetkit charged! Big clunky paws worked their hardest to coordinate an attack on his smaller brother, who was hiding in a nest across the den- like a coward! "And I eat bugs like you right now!" Hornetkit tackled the tortoiseshell, holding him down with his weight while searching to purchase his scruff.
Firekit squealed as Hornetkit bowled him over, massive kit-paws flying into the air as he was sent tail over paws to the ground. His brother's sharp, little teeth nipped at the skin on the back of his neck, and he yelped. "Hey! That's cheating!" He snapped indignantly. With a grunt, the smaller kit shuffled, slipping his paws beneath him, and pushed himself up as much as he could with Hornetkit on his back. His legs began to buckle so, in a last-ditch effort to fling the beast off of him, Firekit pitched to the side. "Release me, foul creature!" He yowled. If his little minion, Blazekit were here, he wouldn't need to worry about being overpowered.

Firekit chirped, "Hey! That's cheating!" Hornetkit almost laughed. There was no cheating in battle, at least not when Sunfire fought. But there was mercy, at least when Hornetkit fought. The tom-kit released his brother, who probably would have wriggled out anyway. "You are too small to be breakfast," he excused, placing a fat paw on Firekit's head to mess with his fur. "Too much work for a big beast like me."
Firekit continued to struggle, pitching this way and that as Hornetkit clung to his back, and couldn't help the annoyed whine building in his throat. This wasn't fair! It wasn't nice to grab his scruff like that and hold him there! Granted, it wasn't as effective as when Sunfire or Mintglade did it, but still! Hornetkit, though he didn't seem keen to give up his advantage, did eventually release Firekit's scruff and, with an annoyed growl, the tortoiseshell kit squirmed away from Hornetkit. "Ohhhh. Thank you!" He snapped, not sounding very thankful at all.
"How lucky of me, to be spared by a great, lumbering beast like you." With a scoff, Firekit ducked away from his brother's outstretched paw and shook his pelt out. "Anyway, let's play something else!" His expression softened then, all previous annoyance forgotten, and tried to brainstorm something exciting his brother would like. "Any ideas?" And then, slyly, "And it's okay, I know ideas must be difficult for a big, dumb creature like you."

Hornetkit nodded eagerly. A break from this game sounded perfect. But what else could they do? Firekit spoke up. "Heyy! I thought we weren't playing that anymore," he grumbled. The kitten briefly tried to think of something to say back, but there wasn't anything about Firekit he really felt like insulting. Instead, Hornetkit thought of a game he wanted to play. "Idea. We play Leader? You will be the leader, and I will be your medicine cat or deputy." His eyes suddenly lit up. "Oh- Can I be both?"
Firekit blinked at his brother, whiskers twitching in amusement at his suggestion. He didn't mind being leader - if that was how Hornetkit wanted to play - but a cat couldn't be the deputy and medicine cat, right? It was probably so much work to just be one, why bother with the extra duties by asking for both? "How about deputy?" He suggested after a moment. "Won't be very fun being a medicine cat if you don't have anyone to heal, yeah?" Because if he was going to be the leader, he wasn't going to be a weak one! Leaders were strong! Capable!
They didn't need help from any cat, so neither would Firekit! Without waiting for a response from Hornetkit, Firekit turned and raced out of the nursery. "C'mon Hornetwing!" That was a good name for a deputy, right? "We've got some smelly RiverClanners to deal with!" And that was certainly a leader-like thing to say, of course. Who would play the Riverclanners, though, was another problem entirely. He'd let his brother puzzle that one out himself.
