It had been a while since Paledove returned to camp, carrying her newborns. Now they were old enough to walk, to talk, to play-fight, even, although that always worried her even though she encouraged it- the point was that it was a wonderful morning to watch her kits play in the snow, keeping an ever-sharp eye out. Any approaching SkyClanners were met with a low rumbling growl and a glare through half-lidded eyes, over-protective.
Honeypaw was jubilant about the return of Paledove and the kits. She had spent the afternoon out in the forest, away from her brothers for the first time in who knows how long, and gathered what moss she could find beneath the boulders on the southerns side of the moors. Beneath these boulders, moss was untouched by snow, and although it may not have been as soft as it would be in greenleaf, it was dry and spongey, and would provide sufficient bedding for a resting queen and her many, many kits.
Honeypaw dared to approach the nursery, her jaws clutching a bundle of the moss, some extra tucked below her chin. She poked her head inside and laid her findings down gently, and peered into the shadows.
"Hello, Paledove?" she mewed, just barely a whisper in case the kits were asleep. "I have brought you some fresh moss for your nest. I can leave it here if you like," she added hesitantly, "or I can line your nest with it." She blinked slowly, comfortably, as memories of the nursery flooded back to her from her kithood. She felt nostalgic; only a short moon ago, she had been here playing with her littermates.

"I hope that we can meet again one day, you and I," she mewed, "under peaceful skies."
Yewkit, having opted to stay in the nursery with Paledove for warmth, stared at Honeypaw with wary eyes - pupils narrowed. He felt uncomfortable with the stranger approaching. He analyzed her cautiously, following her every move. Paledove's own caution with her SkyClan peers in camp and his initial isolation from them had given him an impression that they may not all be trustworthy.
His small ears perked as he listened to Honeypaw's offer, flicking one after she finished. "Fresh moss?" He mumbled, glancing at Paledove for her response to the stranger. It was as if he was asking if she was an okay cat and the offer wasn't dangerous somehow.

Cricketkit’s slender body was nearly buried in Paledove’s thick neck ruff as she lay slumped over the queen’s shoulder. She blinked shyly at Honeypaw, her eyes still the milky blue of kittenhood. Cautiously the she-kit slid out of her mother’s fur, ears trembling slightly with both the newness of the stranger and the chill seeping in from outside the nursery. The ground was chilly against her pads, and Cricketkit bounced from one foot to the other, trying to escape the slight sting of the ground.
“Hi.” She mewed softly, her innate curiosity warring with her caution. Paw-step by careful paw-step the white and tabby kit slunk closer to Honeypaw and the moss. The moss was vibrant with outside smells, stone and snow and other curious things. She edged closer to the moss, and flattened her fluffy body onto the ground, ears slicked flat back. She reached out a paw to poke experimentally at the enticing green blob, whiskers quivering with both uncertainty and excitement. A few stray bits got tangled in her claws, and the kit raced back to Paledove, shaking out her front paw once she was safely tucked away behind the protection of her mother’s form. Cricketkit pounced on the scraps, bumping into the pale queen’s back as she rolled around with her stolen prize. Slowly she poked her head up to take another sneaky glance at the ginger apprentice.

- Ospreykit -
Ospreykit, holding none of her sibling’s reserved attitudes or shyness, bounded into the nursery with her white paws still lightly dusted in snow. “Someone say moss?” She looked around and spotted Cricketkit’s small stash of scraps, taking her sister’s distraction as her chance to pounce on and playfully steal one of the pieces. She rolled over with the moss clutched in her claws, ending up with several other scraps clinging to her fluffy brown and white pelt in the process . The kit batted the piece into the air a few times, glee evident, before promptly getting distracted herself and abruptly letting it fall.
“Hello! I’m Opsreykit, who’re you??” She bounced back to her feet, staring wide-eyed at Honeypaw. Her enthusiasm was interrupted however when she glanced back at Paledove. Why did her mother seem so- wary? And Yewkit too. Where Ospreykit’s curiosity was pure excitement his was more like suspicion. But the stranger didn’t look threatening, she wasn’t that much older than the kits really. And she had apparently been the one to kindly bring fresh moss… Was something wrong? Had she been too friendly? Osprekit’s smile faltered just slightly as she looked between the queen and apprentice.

Myrtlekit was out in the snow exploring silently when she noticed a ginger cat had entered the nursery den. Hunkered down in a stalking position, she followed the apprentice into the den. Once inside she saw a pile of moss on the ground in front of the young, she-cat. Quickly and silently, she scurried up and snagged a small bunch of the moss and darted back towards the entrance of the cave. There she laid down and batted at the moss, only jumping up to grab the moss when it landed too far away from her little needle like claws. The dry, spongy moss was rather fun to toss around and was defiantly more fun than the cold snow. Discord: ChaoticCrow | Timezone: Mountain Daylight Time (MDT) | Code (c) Kieer

Deerkit was playing nearby the nest when a young cat appeared at the door with moss. Unsure if the visitor would be friend or foe she darted back to the nest. She watched her siblings and the stranger with intense interes from the safety of her mothers nest

Paledove’s head snapped up as someone approached; for a moment, a low growl rumbled in her chest, but then she recognized the cat speaking- an apprentice. No threat. She relaxed slightly, smiling at her kits. Cricketkit seemed interested in the moss; Yewkit was hanging back, ever cautious. A good quality. “You may get some if you’d like, dear,” she told him, gently nudging him forwards. “Ospreykit, don’t steal your sister’s moss- and all of you, remember your manners. You weren’t raised in a marsh.”
The pale queen curled her tail around those of her kits still in the nest, letting the others play around as they wished but still keeping a weather eye on them- she wasn’t about to let an apprentice take sole responsibility of her kits, after all. “Thank you, Honeypaw,” she mewed, giving her kits a quick glance as a reminder to thank the apprentice. They had to be polite after all.
Honeypaw's whiskers twitched and she purred in amusement as the many kits' attention was drawn to her. The first kit, a she-kit, had the bravery to come steal a bit of the moss!
"Hello, little kit," she purred back, watching at the kit scrambled back to her mother with her prize. She watched her sneak another look at Honeypaw, and Honeypaw smiled back in return. "You like this moss? I can get you some more soon," she promised. "The forest outside is rich with it."
Just then, Honeypaw jumped with surprise as one kit came from outside the nursery, dusted with snow - another she-kit. She watched as the kit scrambled over to her sister and played with the stolen moss. "Hello Ospreykit," Honeypaw greeted warmly. "My name is Honeypaw. It's okay," she soothed. "I don't mean to alarm you - any of you. I've just been very excited to meet all of you, so I brought you some moss for your nest. Or... For play," she giggled. "I promised your sister I'd bring you some more soon. It'll be even better than this!" Her blue eyes shone.
Then, another kit appeared! She was so stealthy that Honeypaw hadn't noticed her arrival until she'd snatched more of the moss and fled towards the entrance. Another she-kit, Honeypaw mused. "You're a natural hunter," she mewed at the kit. "That was really good! If that moss was a mouse, it wouldn't stand a chance! What is your name?"
Honeypaw noticed a few of the kits were a little more on the shy side, staying close to Paledove with their wide, uncertain milky-blue eyes. Honeypaw felt a pang of empathy for them. She was the same, after all. But it was easier with kits, she realized.
"Of course, Paledove," Honeypaw replied, dipping her head. "If you need anything else, I'm happy to help. Your kits are beautiful," she purred, glancing at each of them in turn. "There's so many of them. You're going to have your paws full," she giggled, "Not that you can't handle it. What are their names?" She hoped that she wasn't asking too many questions of the queen as she picked up the remainder of the moss and very slowly brought it over to her nest, careful not to get too close as to frighten her more reserved kits.
Honeypaw tore the moss into pieces slowly, diligently, preparing it better for a nest lining. In her work, she pawed together a solid ball of the stuff and nudged it forward to the little ones at Paledove's side, hoping it would entice them into play. She kept a good distance, her eyes glancing back to Paledove for reassurance that she wasn't pushing any boundaries.

Myrtlekit flicked her ears back toward the nest as her mother spoke to the apprentice. She grabbed her piece of moss and slowly padded up to Honeypaw, "My name is Myrtlekit, Thank you for the moss" she mew as she dropped the moss beside the young She-cat. "Would you want to play with some of the moss too?" Myrtlekit silently purred while peering up at Honeypaw. Discord: ChaoticCrow | Timezone: Mountain Daylight Time (MDT) | Code (c) Kieer

Yewkit was shocked at the kindness displayed by his littermates. The fact they were playing instead of being cautious offended him. He looked at Deerkit to reassure, his eyes soft. At least she understood where he was coming from. He imagined himself jumping up, teeth bared, protecting his siblings and mother from the potential threat that just entered. This was amplified by the low growl that emitted from his mom. Though, as Paledove relaxed, he started to listen closely to what the apprentice was saying. She seemed so kind and gentle. She was a beautiful cat, and this made him feel a little nervous. Maybe he was wrong about this SkyClan cat, at least.
The nudge from Paledove made him jump, looking up at his mother with wide and surprised eyes. "Okay, mom." He murmured quietly, his eyes narrowing to the new cat, feeling reassured by the nudge and her shift in demeanor. He slowly stepped forward towards the apprentice. He sat down in front of her and he patted a curious paw at a bit of moss with sheathed claws.
"I'm Yewkit." He said confidently, interrupting Myrtlekit's offer, his reserved nature melting with his mother's encouragement. "And, I will be the best warrior in SkyClan." His eyes were still focused on the moss, his pupils dilating, and his pawing had started to intensify into clawing.
