Sootstorm had once again ventured too far out in his search for prey, and found himself in even more unfamiliar lands. He was chasing a rabbit, almost on it when from the corner of his vision he saw an incoming blur of grey and white fur. He skidded to a halt just in time to avoid crashing into the she-cat. The rabbit was gone, probably already deep into the undergrowth. He bit back a hiss of fustration and turned to face the cat he had nearly crashed into. Sootstorm froze in his place as he found himself face-to-face with SkyClan's deputy, Wolfblossom. Why must he keep bumping into other Clans' deputies? He quickly dipped his head in greeting, and hoped the she-cat wasn't in a mood for a fight.

Wolfblossom had spotted the rabbit as well, and while she definitely wasn't fast enough to catch those on a good day, she was determined to try and bring back prey for her clan regardless, even if the patrol she was on wasn't marked for hunting.
Focused on her target, she only barely noticed the Windclanner, very nearly bowling into him as she stumbled to a stop with a muttered curse. "Foxdung!" Today was the rabbit's lucky day. At least, Wolfblossom thought, she wasn't the only one walking away without a catch.
"I'm sorry - I was so focused on the rabbit I didn't even see you." She grimaced, eyes turning toward the Windclanner. She thought she recognized him from gatherings, but they had never spoken and she did not know his name. "I'm Wolfblossom... Who are you?" And why was he so close to Skyclan 'territory'? But the answer to that was obvious.

Sootstorm felt his insides shrivel up and die. He was only now realizing how close he was to SkyClan's territory-- and bumped into the deputy, of all cats! To think he was WindClan's deputy, bringing back such disgrace not even a moon after his promotion...No, he hadn't done anything wrong yet. There was nothing Wolfblossom could hold against him! He raised his head and met the deputy's gaze. "I'm Sootstorm, WindClan's new deputy. I apologize, I was not watching where I was treading," He replied in what he hoped was an appropriate tone.

The Windclanner introduced himself as Sootstorm... Windclan's new deputy. She had not paid much attention to the clan who traditionally resided across the forest from her own during the journey, herself focused on Skyclan's needs above all, but come to think of it, she had not seen Smallstar during their blessedly brief stay around the other clans upon first arriving at the lake. Only Tigerdance. Or was it Tigerstar, now?
"Nice to meet you, Sootstorm... What a time to become deputy this is. And I thought the twoleg invasion was bad." She mewed, a wry smile flashing across her features.

Sootstorm nodded, recalling the dozens of sick cats stuck in their make-shift camp. WindClan didn't have nearly enough warriors to keep up with daily patrols, and now a good half of them were too sick to do anything. What a time to be a deputy, indeed. "How had SkyClan been holding up?" He asked casually.

"As well as we can be." Her face did not show the worry she felt with so many of her clanmates ill and their alliances crumbling around them. She refused to admit to that weakness however. "The journey was hard on everyone, I think... It's good to settle somewhere a little more stable, even if it's not where the clans should be. Not waking up to another day's rough travel will do everyone some good."
