Goldenpaw lounged about on the fringes of camp, impatience buzzing under her pelt. They could’ve totally made it further today! So what if the other Clans just couldn’t keep up with the awesomeness of WindClan; just leave ‘em behind! StarClan never demanded that they had to travel with the other Clans, right? If they had, that was dumb, and StarClan wasn’t dumb, so they hadn’t.

Another brilliant example of Goldenpaw logic, she snickered to herself, meandering about attempting to find someone to bug. Her brother and Pantherpaw were out on some hunting patrol, which sounded like a great idea! As long as they didn’t go out of eyeshot, everything would be fine. All she had to do was find someone who would hunt with her.

A chestnut pelt caught her eye, and Goldenpaw bounded over, nudging the other apprentice with a paw, totally uncaring of whatever he’d been doing up to that point. “Heya, uh…” Drat, she didn’t know his name at all. “Wanna go hunting? I’m starving, aren’t you? If we don’t go very far I’m sure it’d be fine, right?”

Having half-buried himself under a pile of dirt that he'd dug up the night prior, Molepaw rested peacefully near his clanmates. The journey had been tough and seemingly never ending, and so the plump apprentice took every opportunity he could to nap. That was, until he was awoken by some-cat's gentle nudge.

"Huh?" the fuzzy apprentice mumbled sleepily as he blinked his eyes a few times in hopes of recognizing the figure that stood above him. Squinting, the golden she-cat's frame still wasn't as clear as it should've been, but he presumed it was simply cause of his tiredness or perhaps some loose got into his eyes. Shrugging it off, he listened as the apprentice spoke, his short ears twitching every so often. He was hungry... but leaving without a warrior seemed pretty dangerous... especially with them being in an unknown area. But, as he met the she-cat's amber gaze, though still somewhat fuzzy, he could tell that she unfortunately wasn't about to let this go.

"Okay... but let's make sure the warriors can still see us," he mewed in a somewhat hushed tone. Pushing himself up out of the dirt pile, the round tom gave his pelt a shake, sending specks of dust and dried grass flying. Yawning, he stretched his wide paws out and waited patiently for them to begin. Maybe the silver lining to this would be that they'd find some yummy grub to munch on, though his mood dropped a little when he remembered that there weren't too many juicy bugs to find during the colder season. Fuzzface had managed to find some back home under some logs and muck, so there was technically hope... just less of it.

Oh, that hadn’t all been his fur; Goldenpaw wrinkled her nose as the dirt slid off the tom, wondering why anycat would willingly get their pelt covered in dirt. Not even dust, dirt. All was forgiven, however, as the other apprentice agreed to do a little hunting. She was starving (not really, just hungry), and surely they could find some prey too dumb to run at the sight of a horde of cats, right?

With a bright grin, Goldenpaw led them both out into the grasses surrounding the Clans, passing a few hunting patrols from other Clans on their way back. Once they’d made it out far enough that the voices behind them had subsided to gentle murmurs (but, of course, close enough that the warriors could see them), she opened her maw and scented the air, the smell of sweet stale moor-grass wafting over her tongue… and that of squirrel? There were some trees not too far off… maybe a SkyClan patrol had accidentally chased them this way? Surely she could catch a squirrel.

She narrowed her eyes, scanning the terrain for any trace of… she’d eaten squirrel before, and she knew how it smelled, but she wasn’t quite sure what it looked like when it wasn’t, y’know, dead. Like furry mice, she guessed, and yet mice were sorta kinda unfamiliar as well. Oh well. If it moved, she supposed she’d pounce on it.

There- in the corners of her vision, Goldenpaw saw a flash of… something that wasn’t her or the other apprentice. She stalked forwards, tail-tip twitching, not quite in a hunting crouch (too ready to fight, almost expecting to run into a predator) but quiet enough anyways: at least until she stepped on a twig.

Snap.

With a snarl, she surged forwards anyways as her prey’s head snapped up, something feathered and fat. It took off, beating its wings heavily, but Goldenpaw followed, pushing every muscle to the limit, throwing herself into the air in a mighty leap. Sharp canines sunk into the quail’s wing, dragging it down as the bulky apprentice landed heavily on her side. Grinning around the feathers, she shook the bird violently until it was still. Not exactly the cleanest kill, but hey, it worked!

“Look!” She muttered through a mouthful of feathers, pleased with herself. Not a bad catch for an apprentice.

Watching as Goldenpaw stalked and then caught a bird, he observed the she-cat's hunting tactics. "Good job," Molepaw mewed softly with a smile. Trying his best to remember what he'd just watched, he made his way a little ways from Goldenpaw and quickly caught sight of a raggedy looking squirrel. He'd never hunted a squirrel before and wondered if it was similar to mice. Well, there was only one way to find out.

Stalking forward through some brush, the plump brown apprentice did his best to keep his round belly from dragging across the ground as he shuffled forward. Doing his best to be patient, he waited until what felt like the right moment and lunged forward. Landing squarely on the squirrel, he got distracted by the fact that he'd been able to catch one and almost forgot to deliver the final blow. Giving it a swift bite to the neck, he made sure it was still before stepping off of its tail. Looking towards Goldenpaw, he was glad that they'd both been able to catch some prey to bring back with them. Hopefully they wouldn't get in trouble about it though...
