Improvise. Adapt. Overcome. [open hunting patrol]

Given their circumstances, it was inevitable that Windclan would have to resort to the tunnels, either for shelter or prey. For now, Smallstar would be thankful that it was only the latter. Behind him was a small group that he had informed of their destination - they would be hunting in the tunnels. He knew that very few within the clan were truly educated on them, even he wouldn't consider himself knowledgeable, but it was one of their only remaining options.

After taking a path that didn't have fresh twoleg scent all over it, the patrol reached a small dip in the flat lands, a few tunnel mouths visible from the surface. "Alright, listen real quick." He allowed little time for them to pay attention. "These tunnels here are safe, I know they've been worked on recently. But do not stray too far. The tunnels can be very dangerous, cats have lost their lives here." He allowed a brief pause. "However, I do not know where else we may find prey, you all know they're rarely on the surface anymore. Just be careful. If you have even an inkling of a suspicion that a tunnel may collapse, you need to get out, got it? Don't run into any of the tunnel supports, don't do anything stupid." His eyes lingered on a few warriors upon finishing the last statement. "That is all." With that, he turned away from the group, trying to trust that they wouldn't cause a disaster.

Kestrelchirp had jumped on the opportunity to hunt with Smallstar in the tunnels. Coyotegrin, himself, and very few other cats even knew how to safely hunt in them. He respected Smallstar now, and quite liked him. So when he spoke, Kestrelchirp listened. When he finished, Kestrelchirp cleared his throat a little. "If you need any help in the tunnels, just ask me. We just got done with this section." He dipped his head towards Smallstar to thank him for allowing him to speak up out of respect. With that said, he backed slowly from the group and slipped into the first tunnel he saw. Down here, it was easy enough for him. Scenting through the rich earth, he wandered through the narrow tunnels when a scent caught his attention...

A weasel. The hiss was almost instant as soon as he recognized the smell. Soon, jaws were snapping around his front leg, drawing blood. Crying out, he paused only for a heartbeat to take note of his surroundings... No support nearby, so that was good. The weasel flailed, clinging to his leg. Out of necessity, Kestrelchirp slammed his paw down repeatedly on the weasels head. "Weasel!" He cried out to alert the others. It was only a weasel, so he could handle it, but it wouldn't be fun.


The weasel used Gripping Bite for 15 SP, causing 7 damage. This is round 1.
Kestrelchirp used Front Paw Strike for 7 SP causing 8 damage. Kestrelchirp used Swift Strike for 10 SP, causing 5 damage.

Okay, so, Goldenpaw hadn’t really known what she had, uh, apparently agreed to do. Maybe she hadn’t been listening, but at any rate, any cat worth their prey would listen to and follow their leader. Especially when your leader suggested a hunting patrol. Especially especially when the fresh-kill pile was this low. Like, seriously, who was eating that much? Stars! Okay, yeah, maybe Goldenpaw ate… a good amount for a growing cat! She was still growing! But anyways, the point was that there wasn’t enough food, and honestly there rarely ever was, even with cats like Tallpaw who just… never seemed to eat? Which was weird, because Goldenpaw would never make it on that little food. Some cats just never seemed to get hungry. Weird.

Everyone came to a stop, suddenly. After nearly running into the cat in front of her and whispering a quick apology, Goldenpaw managed to pay attention for long enough to learn that, hey, yeah, we’re going into the tunnels! Yay! It wasn’t like she was afraid, or anything. Pfft. Goldenpaw, afraid? What a- a stupid idea! Yeah. Don’t run into the tunnel supports… she could do that. Don’t do anything stupid- heh. Who did Snailstar think he was talking to? Somebody else, probably, ‘cause uh- Goldenpaw, doing something stupid? Pfft. That was a stupid idea. Maybe he was talking to himself— or to the warriors he stared at for a moment too long, and who Goldenpaw maybe also stared at a little, because if Snailstar did it, she was probably supposed to as well.

Honestly, it took her a moment to even spot a tunnel, and that was just because someone else’s tail was vanishing down it. Huh. Might as well follow, she guessed, and so she did. (That could be her motto!) The scent of the other cat (…uh, Kezdrilurp? Maybe he was a former loner?) was hard to follow, but she didn’t need to follow him! She was Goldenpaw. This was easy. Tunnels? Ptcha. The tunnels better look out for her, not the other way around.

Rabbit-scent? Oh yeah, rabbit-scent. Mmmm. Goldenpaw’s stomach growled faintly as she picked up the pace, definitely not drooling slightly at the thought of clamping her jaws around a rabbit and… mmm. She could practically feel its neck snapping beneath her teeth already… her paw collided with something furry, and with a sudden movement Goldenpaw slammed the (really long and weird-feeling) rabbit to the ground, sinking her teeth into where she guessed its neck probably was. Stars, this place was dark, and this rabbit really was taking its time to die.

Come on, rabbit, die! I wanna go help fight weasels! The stupid thing was thrashing about, probably trying to escape or kick her or something. Stars, this one felt weird. Why was its neck so long?

Goldenpaw accidentally “summoned” a predator! Goldenpaw used Leap-and-Hold on rabbit Weasel #2, dealing 6 damage and costing 15 stamina. -5 from earlier hunt attempt, -20 SP in total. Weasel is pinned for two turns.
