A lost cause (c)

Staring out of the invisible barrier with his cold olive-tinted gaze focused on nothing in particular, memories of late ran through his mind like the raging rapids that swelled deep in the Gorge. Sleeping peacefully next to on one of those artificial nests, was his father, Sunflower, the tom who'd he'd been stuck with for all his life and probably the rest of his days. Shivering in his short pelt, an overwhelming feeling of sadness and hatred filled his heart as he sat there in silence. It felt like just yesterday that he'd found his brother being torn to pieces by hungry dogs, helpless against them as Sunflower, their embarrassing excuse for a father, stood there being as useless as always. He'd done his best to jump in, but he'd been too late. The one remaining family member that'd loved and been able to endure had been killed in a most brutal way, and bitterness would forever cling onto the lengthy tom's soul.

After the fact, he'd wanted absolutely nothing to do with his father, who had made a poor attempt to convince him to join him and his Twolegs, who'd he'd crawled back to after Forest's death, and good riddance at that. He couldn’t put up with it anymore, he just couldn’t. Their own mother had abandoned them all, most likely cause of their father, so why should he stick around? Pipsqueak had thought about leaving and going to SkyClan where he truly belonged, but his plan had been foiled when he'd been captured and it'd been just his luck that the Twolegs who grabbed him were none other than Sunflower's. He was sure that he'd been cursed in this life and as much as he had tried to escape, it was no use and eventually he'd accepted his fate, for now at least. It pained him thinking of the lack of family that they left and the fact that he was stuck with his father of all cats, but for now he'd just need to put up with it. However long that would take, he had no idea, but hopefully his dream of living in the forest someday wasn't a complete lost cause.
