A friendly chat and hunt (c)

Brightpaw called for bluepaw just as he trudged out of camp.

"Bluepaw! Wanna hunt with me?"

He softly meowed, treading over the leaves. Barely any scent wafted in the air. He decided not to head to the Stony Hollow, since it was no use to let predators target them. He wasn't good at fighting anyway.

He smelled the scents of a thrush and a squirrel.

"Bluepaww!"

He called louder this time, following the scent of the squirrel. After all, in his opinion, they were tastier. Any prey would do. It was leaf-fall, and he loathed leaf-bare, but what comes goes.

He was just a few fox-lengths away from camp and was getting impatient with his brother. He followed the scent of the squirrel, taking his mind off of Bluepaw.

The squirrel was pacing through the ferns, trying to find nuts and acorns. Brightpaw lowered himself to a hunting crouch, his paw-steps barely making a sound. Before he ran towards it, he thudded on the ground—not really a good hunting technique.

"Dumb squirrel!"

Brightpaw mumbled as he just stayed still, laying on the ground like a feather. He then got to his paws and padded towards the squirrel, hoping for the corpse of a squirrel. The squirrel was twitching its leg, and Brightpaw finished it off with a quick bite of his fangs. Bluepaw was taking forever. He placed the squirrel under a bush and dug it up with some dirt, content with what he had hunted. He was preparing to catch another squirrel, bird, or maybe even a mouse, before he swivelled his head to the camp entrance, hoping to see Bluepaw.

Bluepaw scampered up to his paws ears twitching as bright called for him.  He purred flicking his tail as he gave his paw a quick cleaning rubbing it over his ears.  Then running out of the apprentice den to follow.  

Coming he meowed but quietly so as not to scare any nearby prey.  

He smiled watching brightpaw go after a squirrel.  Hmm a thrush also smelled to be clos so he could go after that while brightpaw got the squirrel.


Bluepaw enjoyed hunting a lot.  He didn’t like fighting but at least hunting he could try and help feed the clan that was so hungry lately.  Besides maybe today he could catch goldenfern something for real this time and share his first real catch with his mentor.


He spotted his target and moved in low doing his best to remember what he had been taught as he slinked towards it.



Bluepaw sighed as he had missed his jump and the prey quickly got away!! He glanced at brightpaw and smiled… at least brightpaw had caught something! He would just have to try again maybe. He was a little bummed, he hadn’t caught anything yet. He was still looking for his very first catch as an apprentice

"Better luck next time!"

Brightpaw mewed, before perking his ears up. More rustling! Another squirrel, he thought. He bursted through the bush and felt something nip his paw pad—a thorn. He didn't think much of it as Brightpaw thudded on the ground and rolled backwards again, panting. He rushed towards the squirrel, his claws still unsheathed. He felt something prick him when he rolled across the ground. He closed his eyes in pain but decided to think more of the squirrel. Every step ached, but he tried his best to ignore it. He caught the squirrel by its tail, but it escaped. He cursed under his breath and screamed in pain before staring at his paw pad. A thorn was jabbed in the middle of his paw pad.

Bluepaw flicked his ears hearing the squirrel and watched as brightpaw took after it. He flicked his tail hoping and hoping that brightpaw would have success once more! He cheered silently under his breath that way brightpaw could have 2 in a row!! It looked like brightpaw had it! But only a second later the squirrel got away, what had happened!?

He tilted his head a bit confused and went towards his friend, it was only then that he heard his fellow apprentice wincing in pain. Worriedly he went over to his side. Oh no, are you okay brightpaw?? he meowed softly looking his friend over till he saw the sore paw with a thorn sticking out.

Ohh ouchie… here hold still I’ll get it out for you he meowed and leaned in inspecting his paw closer.

Careful not to bite his friends paw he gently used his teeth to pull at the thorn till it came out.

There! Ya good as new now! hmm he probably should find some moss for his friend so that they could clean away the wound just in case. He saw some nearby and fetched it tossing it to brightpaw just like a mossball that kits played with. Here, dap the wound with that to clean it some and such

Brightpaw gave a warm smile to Bluepaw. He nodded and got to his paws. "I'll be okay, thanks!" he mewed gratefully, dapping the moss against his paw pad. In a few minutes, it felt good as new. He stared at his paw pad, shaking it a bit to ease the aching. It ached less now. He smiled at his paw pad, then made his way against the patches of grass and ferns. He scented mouse and perked his ears up, slowly falling into his low hunting crouch, trying to stay downwind. Then, unsheathing his claws, he suddenly jumped through the air, a fury of paws and claws flying, then skidding in the ground, digging his paws deep into it with practiced ease. Brightpaw always enjoyed hunting, though it could be tiring sometimes.

Bluepaw nodded glad to see that his quick fix to the problem had worked.  He watched as his younger brother took off after a mouse.

His eyes flickered back and forth as he went in a slightly different direction to see if there was any other prey out and about that he could maybe get, while also staying close-ish to brightpaw in case either of them ran into any unexpecting things while hunting.

His ears tilted forward he trotted along as quietly as he could and tried to mimic how he had seen Brightpaw do it earlier, Bluepaw had not much luck when it came to hunting try as hard as he did.


He got very excited when he spotted another mouse nearby and the mouse seemed to be distracted as well as it was gathering some seeds to eat and so far was unaware of Bluepaws approach.  Lowering himself as low as he could he inched forward keeping as light on his paw pads as possible

He got as close as he dared to so he wouldnt alert the prey too early before pouncing right at it!

Bluepaw attempts to catch a mouse for -5 sp

He was so close to catching it! but the mouse escaped before he could get his claws around it. Sighing and shaking his head he looked around to see his surroundings once more

Brightpaw smiled at Bluepaw, got up, and flicked his ear. The sun shone brightly in his eye, dappling his fur. The usual murky forest was absorbing the last bits of sunlight, and to some point, it was enjoyable, he thought. Mouse scent filled his nose.

While he chased after the mouse scent, he noticed the sun had nearly set. He felt the happiness leap in his heart. It was always fun to hunt, even in the bad times. The thorn didn't ache well after he removed it.

He pranced towards the mouse, flipping past the fronds and unsheathing his claws. After lightly padding towards it it slipped through his paws and he grumbled.
