Panic [open patrol]

The air was cold that day, a chill able to creep beneath even the thickest fur, yet not a cloud burdened the vibrant blue sky. The luscious foilage and flowers that colored the moors during Greenleaf had begun to fade, leaving wilted brown petals and brittle twigs, former stems, to get snagged in the pelts of passers by.

Smallstar, annoyed, shook out his pelt mid-stride, ridding his thick fur of one of these former stems. "Leaf-bare might be a tough one, this year." He observed, talking over his shoulder to the cats behind him. Initially, he planned to just lead a border patrol, but upon walking by the fresh-kill pile in camp, decided that the clan was more in need of prey at the moment. Unfortunately, it seemed Leaf-bares icy claws had already begun to close around the forest; prey was few and far between.

The leader sighed. A twinge of dread grasped at his stomach. If this was the way that things were going this early into Leaf-fall, one could only imagine Leaf-bare. He turned. "Um. If we don't catch anything this patrol, it's okay... We can try again later." Smallstar had fallen ill within the past moon, having had spent his time in the medicine den he wasn't able to place his paw on when the prey had began to hide. Hopefully it wouldn't remain this way for much longer.

Eyes downcast, Smallstar scaled a ridge, finally reaching the wide expanses of Windclans moors. Lifting his gaze, he found that he could see nearly the whole territory from there. A shift of his eyes swept it, and if it weren't for the slightest movement in the distance, he would have kept moving. He stepped backwards, muttering to the cat beside him. "What is- Why are they-" Smallstar knew very well what he saw, there was no mistaking the upright figure, the uneven gait. Twolegs, undoubtedly. "We need to go. Now. Quickly, alert any nearby patrols to return to camp, but keep yourself safe." He muttered, low, letting narrowing gaze linger on the twolegs as more began to appear. Suddenly, he whipped around, leading the patrol back the way they came.

Happiness comes the way the wind blows

Sootstorm trailed after Smallstar, his paws unusually tired after the period of rest Windclan had gotten after the war. The fresh-kill pile had dwindled to a few pathetic scraps, and however hard he tried to bring back enough prey there was simply none to be found. The tom's ear twitched at Smallstar's comment. There should be something they could do to better the coming Leafbare, like stocking up prey or herbs or something. Anything would be better than their current condition, and doing something to prepare for Leafbare, even if it was useless, would help soothe his nerves just a little.

Sootstorm froze when Smallstar began backing away slowly. What was happening? Was it a fox? Badger? No, if it was Smallstar wouldn't be so paniked. The dappled tom stepped past his leader to catch a glimpse of a figure over the hill. Twolegs... in this season? They should have left when Greenleaf came to an end! That's how it always was. Already, Smallstar was issueing orders. Sootstorm nodded along, his nerves tingling with a restlessness he did not like. Why were they here? It made no sense. And with the hunger and sickness that plagued Windclan, Twolegs were not a welcomed edition. Sparing one last glance over his shoulder at the Twolegs, Sootstorm followed his leader back to camp, his insides churning all the while.

i have always been a storm

The pain in her stomach had become a welcome feeling. It felt weird to be full - wrong. When everyone in the clan was starving she felt guilty when even so much as a rush of blood filled her mouth as she killed prey to bring back home. The warrior had made it a routine to consume whatever edible herbs she could find whenever she was out so she at least had some energy. Of course this resulted in even worse stomach aches and a good telling off by their medicine cat. But...she couldn't bring herself to eat when the queens and elders needed food.

Hoping Smallstar had spotted a dog or a fox they could take down and maybe eat, she jogged to catch up to the two.

Her ears flattened to her head and she lashed her tail, her hackles raising in alarm. Her nod echoed her clanmates as they both turned tail to return home. The clan needed to know about this immediately.
