A few days after Sleet's kits were born amid a storm, the dawn was clear and warm. When the pain started, Aurelia simply grit her teeth, claws digging into the nest she had been given in Thunderclan's nursery. The stick the medicine cats had given her was splintered, and another. Blood soaked her fur, and in the end the golden spotted wildcat lay curled around the bundle of kits. Three she-cats, all closer in appearance to her than they did their Thunderclan father. Protective instinct made Aurelia draw them close to her, a mix of pride and anxiety welling within her.
---Three moons later---
Sunlight streamed from the den's entrance, and the golden spotted she-cat stretched, a yawn parting her maw. Her kits were awake... And the nursery was beginning to feel cramped between her and Sleet and their kits. "Come," Aurelia murmured, nudging her kits from their nest, "Outside. It's too nice to sleep in here all day." Though the thought was tempting... Very tempting. The sun on her face would do them all some good.

Sandkit was happily digging in the moss bed when her mother gently encouraged her to head towards the entrance. The young kit expressed her enthusiasm, exclaiming, "I'm so excited! I can't wait to play with everyone. And surely, Mama will join in too!" as she playfully circled around her mother.

Quailkit groaned at her sister's childlike enthusiasm. "Calm down, Sandkit. Mother doesn't want to play with children like us." She slowly stretched, working out her muscles before striding to the entrance.
