Dust Storm[C]

Sootstorm was up as soon as the sun rose, and after taking a few bites of prey he headed to the apprentice den. The tom poked his head through the den entrance, searching for a particular brown pelt. "Dustpaw! Hunting practice!" He called out as softly as he could so as to not disturb the other apprentices. His paws tingled with the same excitement he had felt when he had first received Nectarflower as an apprentice. Training with his son would be no different from his experience with Nectarflower.

Sootstorm laughed as Dustpaw raced out of camp, as energetic as ever. "Slow down or you'll be out of breath by the time we reach the location!" He called after his son. Thanks to his longer legs, Sootstorm could easily keep up with Dustpaw, and before long they were at the location. He gave his apprentice a few heartbeats to catch his breath, and gestured for Dustpaw to listen. "Today will be a simple hunting lesson. In Windclan, there is next to no cover, so we have to rely on our speed to catch our prey. Any idea how this is done?" He prompted. He'll build on whatever Dustpaw already knows, unless his son truly did not have any brains, but he doubted that. His kits were the best in the Clan, so there was no way Dustpaw could not know something.

Sootstorm raised his paw slightly at Dustpaw's first answer, but gently lowered it after the second answer. Green eyes narrowed in an attempt to be stern, Sootstorm continued, "In order for the prey to be brought back to camp, it must have as little wounds as possible. That means that a single bite must be all it takes for it to die. Now, see that hare over there? Tell me, what would be the best way to catch it," Sootstorm jabbed at the hare with his tail. It was quite small, small enough for a fresh-out-of-the-nursery apprentice to catch, and it was a the bottom of the slope that they were on.

Sootstorm nodded. "Very good. Now, give it a try. I'll be right behind you," He instructed. Hares can be strong, and he had seen how one kick could pernamently damage a cat's face, so he had to make sure that he could step in if he was needed. Once he was in position, he signaled for Dustpaw to start.

Sootstorm raced after Dustpaw, his whole body tense for the slightest sign of danger, but Dustpaw had managed to catch the hare just fine. He slowed down to a stop, a proud look on his face. "Not the best; you still have a lot to learn. But you're getting there," Sootstorm purred.

Sootstorm's ear twitched at his son's challenge. He straightened up, scanning the area around them until his gaze locked onto a cluster of rabbits not too far away. He gave Dustpaw a smile, booping him on the nose gently with the tip of his tail. It would be useful for Dustpaw to watch how it's properly done, and just because it was Greenleaf didn't mean that they could just let a bunch of fresh-kill run off. "Watch and learn," He called over his shoulder as he began trotting towards the cluster.

As he drew closer, his pace also quickened, until he was sprinting straight at the rabbits. A sudden shadow fell over him, sending the rabbits scattering. Sootstorm jumped up right as the eagle swooped down, it's talons grasping at empty air before it took flight once more. The warrior turned to face the predator, his lips curled back in a snarl. Dustpaw wouldn't give up an opportunity to attack the eagle, but he was still untrained. Sootstorm would have to protect his aprentice from the fight. "Stay back!" He ordered at Dustpaw, then sprang forward to dig his claws into the bird's body, dragging it to the ground.

Sootstorm used Jumping Strike, dealing 8(+3)dmg and -7SP
Eagle used Talon Strike, dealing 7(-1)dmg and -10SP

Of course, his son refused to listen to his words. With a hiss of fustration, Sootstorm leapt onto the Eagle, pinning it down with one paw. "Yes I can! You're not trained to fight yet, so stay out of this!" He snapped at Dustpaw. The last thing he wanted was for Dustpaw to be hurt. Too many of his friends had died in the war with Shadowclan, and he feared that Ferntwist may soon join them in Starclan. His mate had yet to recover from her kitting, despite having already been 6 moons. If anything, she had only gotten worse. Sootstorm owed it to her to keep their son alive and well. Starclan wasn't taking another one of his family just yet.
