Violetpaw was starting to relax into her apprentice training more and more as the days went on. Her skills and senses had improved dramatically, and the busy life of a warrior no longer seemed so scary. She also couldn't have asked for a better mentor in Graywind, who was careful to never let Violetpaw beat herself up too much for mistakes. Generally, the brown and white apprentice was just in a good mood today, having woken up from a comfortable nap that had surpassed the highest heat of the day. She padded outside the apprentice den, searching for something to do but knowing training wasn't an option, as her mentor was currently occupied with other duties.
However, soon a familiar black pelt caught her eye, and she approached Foxtrot with a smile on her face. "Are you doing anything right now? Do you wanna come hunting with me maybe?"
Foxtrot had had a busy morning, up at the crack of dawn visiting Thyme then took a moment to check in with Smokepetal to see if she needed any assistance with anything, he was headed out of camp to do some hunting himself when Violetpaw called out to him. He immediately smiled, "I was just heading out to do some hunting myself. Let's do it." he responded bounding from the camp and hopping onto the lower branches of one of the many trees surrounding camp. Hunting for Foxtrot often consisted of him galavanting through the trees, hoping to spot a bird - mainly just an excuse to climb around and have a bit of fun.
"How is your training going?" he asked as he found a comfortable treeflying pace. It wasn't before long that the tom scented a bird and slowed his paws until he was as silent as falling snow. He got into a low crouch and lept towards the bird. Foxtrot's claws expertly caught it just as it realized he was there. He gave it a swift killing bite to the neck and dropped it to the ground, following shortly after it. Not wanting to leave the bird exposed to air he buried it quickly and hopped back up into the tree with ease.

At first Violetpaw struggled to keep up with Foxtrot, who darted through the branches like a large black squirrel. Eventually she managed to catch up as he slowed his pace slightly, just in time to hear his question. "It's great! Graywind's an amazing mentor; she's really good at teaching." The apprentice already felt so much stronger and quicker, ready to welcome her warrior name whenever it came to her. Not long after she replied, the warrior darted after a bird and dipped down to the ground to bury it before returning, all in one swift, well-practised motion. Impressed, Violetpaw was also quickly reminded that she too was supposed to be hunting. She had been caught up in the movement between trees, trying not to fall but also relishing in the flying freedom of it.
She paused then, alerted to the nearby scent of squirrel. Careful to avoid the thinner branches, Violetpaw descended the tree slightly, hoping to get close enough to the animal that she wouldn't have to pounce too far and possibly off of the branch. When she launched forward towards her target, there was a split second where she thought she had overshot, but managed regardless to get her claws around the squirrel. She hopped down to the ground and buried her catch before returning to Foxtrot in the treetops. "How's your... warrior-ing going?"
Violetpaw attempted to catch a squirrel. Catch was successful! 57/60
Foxtrot nodded in agreement as he hopped back into the tree as he processed Violetpaw's response. While he hadn't ever witnessed Graywind's mentoring, he had spoke with her and she was a reliable clanmate with a level head and a sense of humor. Those qualities were all those possessed by a good mentor in his eyes.
A wind ruffled his fur and he inhaled scenting for more prey but didn't find anything, perhaps his catch was noisy and scared nearby prey off. Just as he thought it he watched Violetpaw leap after a squirrel. He couldn't help but feel a lurch in his stomach as she launched after it. He wondered if Dawnfeather had ever felt the same nervousness when he had first learned to fly through the trees.
"Warrior-ing?" he purred, amused, "It's a breezeee!" Foxtrot chirped, "Being a mentor is nice, and Littlepaw is a great listener. I think she'll be ready for her Moonstone journey soon. Are you prepared for yours?" he asked. His own Moonstone Journey was daunting, he hadn't expected Birdstar to wake him up and take him to Mouthermouth herself. Then again it was during the days when Twolegs ran rampant throughout the forest, trapping cats in cages left and right. He only could hope that his own apprentice -and Violetpaw's as well - was a smooth journey there and back.
