It hadn't taken him long to take to the ways of the medicine cat, he was a diligent student; practicing every moment he could and taking apprentices to meet their ancestors. Especially on days like today when the sky was littered with darker clouds, the apprentice found the medicine cat den the perfect place to brush up on his studies.
While he was catching on to most things, there were a few that troubled him now and again and with Greenleaf here it was important for him to make the distinction, "Fawnshine? I'm having trouble with discerning the Chamomile from the Daisy?" he meowed, recently he had been working with Fawnshine and his mother to get rid of his repeating words, and he could tell there was some improvement. It had taken him moons to even get this far, especially when he was a kitten it was worse than it was now. Now his only habit was to add 'yes' to the end of his sentences. Back then he would repeat anything and everything in his vocabulary - often using sentences from others to communicate his feelings. Echopaw wasn't sure if it would truly ever go away, there would always be times of stress when he would slip back into his old habits, there wasn't anything wrong with them - his clan was accommodating and his friends were always supportive. But he couldn't help to feel subconscious about his vernacular.

Fawnshine
Along with the arrival of Greenleaf came flourishing herbs, each blooming and bursting with a surprising amount of life held within their roots or stems. Much to her liking, this meant that both Echopaw and her would have less of a hard time foraging for supply—something she saw as the stars having what little mercy on them after the recent tragedies that came into light. It didn't mean she was necessarily grateful for their so-called 'assistance', though it did help with her duties as a medicine cat. Although that aside, she found them giving out little to no guidance on matters of the clan.
It was Echopaw's call for her name that made Fawnshine's ears perk, spinning around to face the familiar figure of her apprentice. His troubles discerning one herb with another was not unfamiliar to her, as she knew she had certain struggles the first time Dovefrost showed her the same guidance. It made her feel almost sentimental, though she snapped out of the feeling before she could've been side-tracked by such emotions. Reaching up for the two herbs stored in the stone cracks, she brought them down to the tom's paws, comparing the two side-to-side.
"The first notable thing about these flowers is their locations. While you can find Chamomile in sandy soil and Twolegplace, which I highly don't recommend you head to unless there's me to accompany you; you can find Daisies nearly anywhere near water." She nodded, making sure Echopaw remembered where the species lie before continuing. "Chamomiles bloom in white, yellow, and purple; while Daisies have a more unique color spectrum. As for stems and leaves, Daisies have thick green stems and jagged-edged leaves or pointed tips; though Chamomile flowers have thin, short stems and pointy foliage." She pointed to each flower and its distinct features as she spoke.
"Their uses and applications are also different. Chamomiles are one of the important traveling herbs I prepare for apprentices when they head to their Moonstone journeys, as you may know. They're chewed and eaten, strengthening the heart so that a cat can travel for longer without getting tired. On the other hand, Daisy's leaves are chewed into a paste, having the use of easing stiff joints. They're sometimes used in traveling herbs as well, relieving aching joints so that cats can walk for longer without the need to stop."
As Fawnshine turned to look at him, he wondered if she had had similar worries as an apprentice. He assumed as much but in his mind liked to believe she had never needed help a day in her life and was the perfect medicine cat apprentice. Regardless it made him proud to have such an amazing mentor.
As Fawnshine described the locations where one would find the chamomile versus the daisies Echoapw nodded diligently, trying to commit it to memory. He let out a sound akin to an 'aha!' when she mentioned that chamomiles could come in different colors. How could he forget? And as for their uses, this was more familiar to him, "Hmm, yes. It's coming back to me. Thank you, Fawnshine." he grinned, his fluffy tail tip waving as he looked down at the two herbs that were previously giving him a hard time.
Seconds passed as he let a moment of silence fall between them. His thoughts returned to how much he appreciated Fawnshine, how grateful he was. It all stemmed from the last medicine cat meeting, he couldn't help but be affected by not only the hostility between Windclan and Shadowclan but the hostility between Sparrowthorn and Batsong. The thought of him and Fawnshine like that made his shoulders visibly cringe and his brow furrow deeply. He knew his mentor wouldn't miss the change in his vibe and he looked up at her, his head tilted, "If they go to war..do you think Thunderclan will get involved?" For the moment the only conflicts they had had were between those in Thunderclan itself - he preferred it that way.

Fawnshine "Of course. You're welcome to ask me about herbs anytime. You must learn with time, after all." She nodded approvingly down at Echopaw, allowing him to observe the two herbs completely one last time before putting them away, stuffed carefully between the stone cracks of the den.
As she turned around, however, Fawnshine quickly caught a strong glimpse of emotion that troubled the young tom—and sure enough, that didn't go to blissful ignorance. Before she could've pondered on what of the many incidents regarding their clan (or perhaps, all of them) was bothering him, it soon came to the revelation that what he was currently seeking an answer for was something unexpected. Something that caught her off-guard. Sure, she had planned to mention it to Echopaw soon enough, though he'd managed to somehow guess ahead of herself. In the end, this was the perfect timing to discuss with him the allying promise made by the three leaders; their clan included.
"That would depend on which side we are going up against, Echopaw." Fawnshine spoke gently, yet firmly, making sure Echopaw heard her words with clarity. The she-cat sat in front of the apprentice, her tail curled neatly around her paws as she meowed again. "It was only a matter of time before the news would reach your ears. Though, of course, I would be the one to tell you it," She nodded, "Mottlestar had asked my opinion on the prospect of allying between our clan, Riverclan, and Skyclan. This is of course, for the sake of the protection we'll receive during troubling times. In return, we will offer them the same assistance to their clans when it is needed. This means that we, as medicine cats, have the duty to aid fellow medicine cats in their clans during their times of need. We'll be sharing herbs and providing help in the condition that they do the same to us."
She thought back to the high-rising tension between Windclan's medicine cats against Shadowclan's own in the previous medicine cat meeting, and the sheer thought of further wars breaking out made her frown, much similar to how Echopaw had cringed just moments before. "In the case that the war between Windclan and Shadowclan gets messy, or involved with one of the clans we're allying with—that would mean them going up against us as a whole. If they knew any better, I'm sure they wouldn't want to get their paws into such a mess." Fawnshine narrowed her eyes, tail flicking sharply at her own thought. Though, knowing how it is between the two constantly scuffling clans; I'd say Windclan brang the war to themselves.
The medicine cat allowed him another brief pause, wanting the tom to think clearly through his decisions before deciding to speak up. It would be encouraged for him to give his own thoughts into the matter as well, after all, as he would soon in a future point of time be regarded in the matter should he accept the offer. "What do you think, Echopaw?"
