Cedarpaw

Gender: Male
Rank: Apprentice

The weather was gloomy, with dark, heavy clouds gathering on the horizon. Cedarpaw padded across the camp after dropping a squirrel and a mouse on the fresh kill pile. His hunting patrol had called it a day earlier and now that his was back in the camp, the threat of rain seemed all the more annoying.

Usually, Cedarpaw didn't mind a little rain, but on days where he was doing tasks around the camp, he couldn't hate it more. He had originally decided to help clear out old moss, but since it would be raining soon, he would have to do it another time.

So, Cedarpaw trotted to the edge of the camp where a few broad, glossy leaves had fallen, scooped them up, and headed toward the nursery. The least he could do was reinforce the walls of the nursery so the kits and queens would stay dry.

With little time to spare, the apprentice pushed his way into the nursery, the leaves clutched gently between his jaws.

He set them down at smiled softly at the occupants.  "Sorry for bursting in; just wanted to patch up some weak spots in the walls. It looks like it'll rain soon." He meowed quietly since some of the kits looked like they were napping.

Usually, some warriors would take care of this, but Cedarpaw rather liked spending time with the kits. Plus, the added bonus of staying dry once it did start to rain.

Cedarpaw eased himself over the nearby nests with his collection of leaves until he got to the edge of the den where a weak ray of light was peeking through. He grabbed one of the larger leaves and began weaving it through the branches and stronger supports of the den.

Now that he was mostly grown, this den felt a lot smaller than it used to. Even at six moons it had felt small but now...

Humming, Cedarpaw shook his head and returned to the task at paw. It wouldn't be good if any of the kits got a cold from being rained on. And he was certain that no one wanted to change wet, moldy bedding.

Peonykit was cuddled up next to firefly as the wind howling got louder. She had never experienced rain before so was quite curious but also scared of all the loud noises going on. She nudged herself into her mother's side, hoping the sounds would just go away, when suddenly an apprentice carrying leaves walked into the nursery.

Oh so he was here to fix the nursery so Peonykit watched as the older cat went around fixing up any spots that needed it. She gave a slight look towards her mom for permission before unfurling herself. The tiny calico kit walked up to the apprentice right as it looked like he was finished. "Hello...." she mewed softly. Her mother was trying to teach peony to be less shy but it was still hard when talking to new cats.

If Brindlekit could make the sky shut up, then she would have already. Despite the warmer weather, the rain never went away, and was now dripping onto her nest when she wanted to sleep. Making Brindlekit take her naps was something her mother always struggled with, but right now the kit actually was tired and wanted to sleep on her own schedule, which was now being rudely interrupted by the rain.

When the apprentice joined them in the den, Brindlekit was seconds away from complaining about that as well, until he started fixing the problems. Now interested in what was happening, the tortoiseshell kit watched from her nest as Peonykit approached the older cat. It took every ounce of self control the kit had to not scoff at her denmates feeble attempt at conversation, as she instead decided to be the bigger cat and help her out. "That's great! What Peonykit was trying to say was thank you very much for finally fixing this very annoying problem." She smiled and nodded at the other kit silently mouthing a 'you're welcome' to her. "I'm Brindlekit and there's also a gap above my nest. So make sure you don't miss that." Look at her - she was being so considerate and helpful today, something she was trying to work on anyways."What's your name?"

HICKORYKIT • THUNDERCLAN • ♀︎

Hickorykit opened one eye when Cedarpaw came in, only pretending to sleep beside her sister. If Goldenfern had trouble with Brindlekit taking her naps, Hickorykit was even worse. She shot to her paws and bounded over to join the other two kits, much to her mother's dismay. "I'm Hickorykit! Please fix the gap above Brindlekit's nest so she can stop complaining about it! That's Peonykit, she's shy, and Brindlekit is my sister. Can you see the resemblance? What did you say your name was again?" She bounced on her paws while she waited for a response, but soon got somewhat bored of that and turned her attention to what the apprentice was doing.

"...I think you should put some moss in there too! Leaves are good, but what if the water goes around the leaves, y'know? Moss soaks up water, or maybe you could use some mud? Something to really seal it up!"

Cedarpaw

Gender: Male
Rank: Apprentice

Cedarpaw set out at his task, going to each leaking spot and weaving the broad leaves into the den to keep the water out. He'd only been tasked with fixing dens once before, so he was no expert at the task. However, just about everyone else was busy, so he would have to make do.

Just as he set his gaze on another nearby hole in the roof, a young kit toddled up to him, her big innocent, orange eyes reminded him of simpler times.

Kits were pretty cute, and this one somewhat reminded him of himself when he was younger. From what he remembered, he'd always stuck to himself too, being a pretty quiet kits most of the time.

However, he didnt remember being the shy type, just emotionally reserved. Yes, that sounded right

Cedarpaw smiled softly at the she-kit, his amber eyes warm. He opened his jaws to speak, but was interrupted as another voice piped up. Another kit. He didnt want to be rude and tell them to go play, but he did have stuff to do...

After a moment, he caved. He didnt ever get to spend time in the nursery, he might as well enjoy it. "I'm Cedarpaw, it's nice to meet you two finally." Though he towered over the kits, it being almost time for him to become a warrior, he was particularly cautious around them.

With a shrug, he added, "Its no trouble at all, and of course, I'll get that one next."

He began to gather up a few more leaves when yet another kit joined the other two, complaining of the hole above their nest. This one, Hickorykit, was Brindlekit's littermate, evidently.

"Gotcha, I'll fix it for you." He chuckled slightly and repeated, "It's Cedarpaw." Then, with each kit seemingly done talking, he set about patching the hole over their nest. Moments of blissful silence passed before Hickorykit started talking again.

"That's a good idea actually. Maybe one of you can get some mud for me? There should be plenty out there now." Truthfully, he had planned to get some later, but maybe if they had something to do, they'd be less bored?

Peonykit didnt want to be mean but she really didnt want to go outside and get mud. "No..t-thank..you" she mewed not wanting to get dirty. She probably looked week to the other kits but she didnt care, she hated mud.

Brindlekit tried really, really hard to not roll her eyes at Peonykit, but ultimately failed. Why would you not want to go outside? And help at the same time? And get out of nap time? Instead, however, of trying to reason with the shy kit, she sharply prodded Hickorykit in the side. "I'll race you to see who can get the most mud first! Loser is crowfood!"

Her nap long forgotten, the tortoiseshell bounded out of the nursery, frantically barrelling around in search of the muddiest spot. Not far from the elder's den there was a small dip in the terrain where rainwater had collected, soaking the surrounding dirt and creating the exact thing she was looking for. With little care about the filth, the she-kit went paws-first into the puddle and scooped up a leg full of watery mud. And then the thought came to her - how on earth was she supposed to get this back to the nursery?

And then a stroke of genius hit her as she spotted a large and broad-leafed plant. Much like what the medicine cats did, she piled mud onto the surface of the leaf, and then folded it up and carried it in her mouth. She lost some of her precious cargo out the sides, but was sure this would still be enough to beat Hickorykit.

As she re-entered the nursery, Brindlekit looked an absolute mess. Mud caked her from legs and ran down her chest, to the point where her normally flecked pelt was a solid brown colour. Proudly, she deposited the little package at Cedarpaw's feet and sat back on her hind quarters, smiling to herself. "Look, I did it quicker! That means I'm the best, right? Honestly, what would you do without helpful kits to help you to do very helpful things." She said, giving Peonykit a pointed look.
