Subject: Sagepaw's Moonstone Journey Sun 11 Jun 2023 - 20:01
It didn't take long for Echopaw to get into the swing of things as a medicine cat apprentice. One of the responsibilities he held most dear was taking his clanmates to do their Moonstone journeys. He vividly remembered his own, waking up at near dawn to travel with Fawnshine. With everything bad happening in the clan he was ecstatic when Specklewish approached him and let him know Sagepaw was ready for her moonstone journey. The tom gathered the necessary herbs and ducked into the apprentice den, "Sagepaw. It's time for your moonstone journey. Yes." he meowed softly, taking care not to wake any of the other apprentices up, "We should go soon, it's a long journey. Long journey." he would add as the apprentice made her way out of the den. Echopaw dropped the bundle of herbs at her feet and smiled, "Eat up."
The fawn apprentice stirred at hearing her name. “Echopaw?” she mewed. Oh, her moonstone journey! Right! “Awesome!” she trilled, extracting herself from the den. “Yeah, it’s pretty far, I’ve never been out of ThunderClan territory. Have you? Oh wait, that’s a stupid question. Sorry. You get to have all kinds of adventures as a medicine cat. Yeah, we should go.” She ate the traveling herbs, cringing a little at the bitter taste. “So, what do you put in these bundles anyway?” she asked as they started walking.

Echopaw nodded to her, the excitement from the apprentice making him smile slightly. He was glad that she was ready to meet with their ancestors. “I’ve been out of Thunderclan territory. Lots of adventures. I was born in a Twoleg nest. Two legs dropped me out of a monster and into a pile of Twoleg mess.” He confessed, “Comfreyheart found me and adopted me.” It was true, the tom had been covered in all sorts of paint colored with feathers and sticks stuck in his fur, it had taken him ages to get it all off of him.
“Oh mostly Burnet and Daisies.” He meowed softly as he walked with the apprentice. They walked a faster pace, the Tom was excited to get to the Moonstone and show Sagepaw the cave.

When they arrived at Mothermouth the moon was at its highest and the cave was darker than ever, “Stay close.” He meowed as they entered. The tunnel was steep and took some odd turns, it would be difficult to navigate without assistance and Echopaw extended his tail should she need guidance.
“Lay next to the stone and put your nose to it, Starclan will meet with you in your dreams. I’ll be here when you wake up.” Echopaw spoke, as he took his own seat next to the stone and pressed his own nose to it.
Sagepaw nodded, taking her place by the Moonstone and touching her nose to it. This had been way too long coming, with her being older than the other apprentices by so much. A small purr escaped her as she drifted off to sleep.

(I'm so sorry, I didn't get the notification for this message!)
The cat that materialized before Sagepaw was a dark tabby splashed with white. His wide, friendly eyes regarded the apprentice in front of him warmly, and he flicked his tail. "Hello," he said kindly. "My name is Crowcaller. It's nice to meet you, Sagepaw!"
The fawn tabby’s eyes grew wide and she couldn’t help but let out a small gasp as she awoke to the most amazing place she’d ever seen. The starry forest sparkled, every single leaf and twig unique and interesting, and the scents of all the clans mingled into one.
Normally, Sagepaw would’ve been overloaded at this much sensory input, but somehow it didn’t bother her here. She turned her attention to the cat before her. “Nice to meet you, too,” she mewed. “To be honest, there’ve been times I’ve thought I’d never get here. If I look a little old for my moonstone, it’s because I have a lot of trouble walking quietly and scenting and because my mentors kept getting taken away by Twolegs. Sorry, am I over-explaining?”

"Over explaining? Not at all." Crowcaller gave her a grin, tilting his head to one side to look at her. "I'm sorry about your mentors - and about the twolegs." He leaned in to give her an affectionate rasp across the head. "It'll all work out."
Falling back on to his haunches, Crowcaller looked at Sagepaw kindly. "Is there anything you'd like to hear from me? Any concern I can ease? A question I can answer?"
Sagepaw shifted uncomfortably. “Sometimes I worry we’ll get pulled into a war with WindClan, ShadowClan, or both over something that happened before I was even born. Is there any way to avoid having to fight and maybe even dying because of something I had no part in, or is fate already set?”
