Sirens [closed]

Astershines paws anxiously etched shapes into the soft dirt underpaw as he watched his clanmates, waiting for the next patrol to be assigned. He'd suddenly grown very restless, his paws were itching to be active, but there wasn't exactly much that he could do in camp. Maybe he could see if some cat was available to go hunt or patrol the borders. Looking to the cats within his proximety, his eyes landed upon a large, scarred tom. In a way that could'nt' really be described as inconspicuous, he slowly scooted closer to him until they were close enough to talk. "Oh, hey!" He said, trying to sound cheery. "I don't think we've formally met before. I'm Astershine. You're... Bloodstrike, yeah?" He questioned, curiously flicking his tail. Astershine often asked the names of cats even if he already knew them, just in case he mistook them for someone else.  

"How'd you get all your scars?" He asked, peering up at the larger tom. "I've heard stories, they're from fights, yeah? Must mean you're pretty good?" The fact that he had so many scars and was still alive was either a testament to either his skill or his luck. Either way, it made him curious. "Are you busy? I think it'd be cool to spar you, I've been meaning to practice, I feel like you'd have a lot to offer, to learn from. The cats here seem to respect you." Or were they afraid of him... he couldn't tell, but he didn't mind. Bloodstrike hadn't done anything incriminating yet. "There's a spot just outside of camp, we could spar there if nobody else is using it right now."

Bloodstrike was waiting patiently for patrols to be assigned and sat by himself. His mind was busy, wandering to yesterday's patrol and compiling all of that information for today. Was that trace scent of badger still there? Was the fox den still abandoned that he found? Did he need to go over anything else he may have forgotten yesterday with Wolfblossom? Did he need to-

Astershine suddenly sidled up to him and Bloodstrike's attention snapped to the silver tom. When he asked him his name, or rather was just trying to confirm it, Bloodstrike nodded once. "Yup." He answered simply. He stared stoicly while Astershine spoke, but by the end of it he was smirking.

"I'm covered in scars because I know how to take a real tail-kickin'. I am still alive because I know how to dish it back out." He said simply. His eyes followed to the spot where Astershine indicated and nodded once. "Sure I'll spar with you. I think the best way to learn is just to do it." He wasn't dealing with an apprentice. He didn't need to tell Astershine how to stand properly our how to properly throw claws. Bloodstrike was getting less and less interested in words and more interested in actions anyway the older he got.

He never had been one for words and he was only getting worse.

He stood patiently in the sparring corner and watched Astershine carefully. An experienced warrior... but not as much as him. He could tell by the way the other tom moved, how he guarded his vitals, how he stood... and if he spoke, he could gather information from his tone as well.

"The challenger may strike first." He invited, dropping into his defensive stance, eager to begin.

Contrary to Bloodstrike's intimidating appearance, the tom was quite kind and light-hearted. Astershine offered Bloodstrike a small chuckle, although he quickly realized that he hadn't meant to be silly. Whether he was cocky or speaking honestly, he didn't know. "Yeah? I'm sure I'll see how much truth you speak, then." The pale tom nodded, smiling at the fact that they agreed when it came to learning methods. Wordlessly, he led Bloodstrike to the spot he had mentioned before turning to face him, nodding in response when the other warrior offered to let him go first.

For a moment, he stood, studying his opponent. Then, suddenly, he leaped from his position with outstretched paws, overwhelming Bloodstrike with his weight, although he didn't use all of his strength (he wouldn't doubt that Bloodstrike would be able to handle it if he did, though).

Bloodstrike took the hit full on to prove a point. It was a good hit, he wasn't disappointed in Astershine. Alas, it was now the large tom's turn. He was a true Skyclan cat and he did what Skyclan cats did best. He went for a pin. Bloodstrike's strength was apparent, even in his old age. He knew he had a good grip. His experience combined with his strength was a lethal combination. Luckily for Astershine, this was all practice.

Astershine had thought that he might have the upper paw in this fight, considering that Bloodstrike was significantly older than him. The larger tom quickly proved him wrong, for he was pinned to the earth in a heartbeat. Writhing beneath Bloodstrike, Astershine attempted to push the tom off to no avail.

Bloodstrike gave Astershine a smug smirk, but taunted him no further. If he had been some arrogant young warrior or apprentice, he might have blown in his ear annoyingly while pinning him to add insult to injury. Alas, this was a clanmate that he intended to treat with more respect than that. He ground his hard paws into Asterhine a bit more to drive his point home and to further show off his strength. If he couldn't break free, then Bloodstrike was going to be courteous enough to let him up so that the battle could continue in earnest.

Astershine was able to free a back leg. Using whatever leverage he could manage, he pushed himself from beneath Bloodstrike, sending dirt flying behind him. Chest having and head hung low, Astershine jumped to what he assumed was a safe distance away, watching his opponent with analyzing, yet curious, eyes. It seemed he had initially underestimated his opponent. Still, he'd attempt to win. There was no fun (or honor) in giving up.

Bloodstrike let Astershine up and stepped back, only to charge forward. His bigger, heavier body lurched into the younger warrior and his teeth sought the back/side of Astershine's neck. He wouldn't bite hard enough to do any real damage obviously, beyond some bruising, but it was enough to get the point across.

Astershine barely had enough time to recover before Bloodstrike was on him again, digging his teeth into the fur on his scruff. It didn't really hurt, nothing besides discomfort. While he was beneath of the other tom, Astershine let himself go limp and fall to the ground, turning himself over once he'd landed. Using his back paws, he kicked up on Bloodstrikes stomach before maneuvering out from beneath him, chest heaving.
