Every Day [Open Hunting]

"Who's up for hunting?" Astershine's voice rang out across Skyclan's camp. It was a busy day, but the weather was calm. Barely a breeze at all, clear blue sky, birdsong filling the open air. It was a nearly perfect day, and it left Astershine in high spirits, even though only a slight smile curved the edges of his mouth. A slight skip in his step could be noticed if one was to pay close attention.

The pale tom paced near the camp entrance as he waited for company, but in the meantime, grew bored. Curiously padding up to a nearby cat who was very obviously not in the mood to go anywhere, he gave him a slight prod before speaking. "What about you? Hunting?" The cat was one he'd recognized but didn't know well. Stormwatcher, if he recalled correctly. "Clan could use it, and the day is lovely." At the mention of the weather, he looked up towards the sky, gazing into its vast blue depths. Not a cloud interrupted his view. He looked back down to Stormwatcher. "Whattaya say?"

Stoneheart had been stretched out in the sunlight as Astershine called for a patrol to go hunting. "I'll join you." Stoneheart called, padding toward Astershine. "And come on, if he's not going to budge for you, he's not budging for anyone but Wolfblossom. I think she's on patrol... Could always let her deal with him when she gets back." She added, glancing in the other warrior's direction. If he joined them or not it didn't really matter, right?

Though she didn't stir at all when Astershine's voice carried over the camp, Mistpaw rose swiftly from her nearby resting place at the sound of her sister's voice. Her own was soft, barely more than a whisper: "...I'll go."

She looked to Stormwatcher, nose twitching slightly. Despite his general laziness, he was one of the few cats she felt safe with. "You should come, too."

Stormwatcher was in the middle of doing his favorite thing ... absolutely nothing! (besides maybe sleeping?)

Pawsteps approaching and his heart dropped when Astershine began talking. It was all Stormwatcher could do to not groan at this suggestion.  The Whattaya say at the end was about to be responded to with a 'oh maybe later' or something to that effect when his old apprentice came by and added on.

Storm blinked blankly at her with a really?? looking expression.

Then on top of it all, mistpaw wanted him to go as well.

This was probably the last thing he wanted to do on such a nice day but the only thing worse would be getting Wolf all worked up over this again cause then he would have her on his tail and probably still have to do one later that she would assign to him directly.


He rubbed his face with his front paws and let out a ughhh sound of sorts as he stretched and got up to his paws.

Why did his clanmates have to be such overacheivers?  They were making the rest of them look bad here, it wasnt like Wolf or Bird had told them to go do this.

Well, the sooner they could get started the sooner it would be over he gave a little nod trying to force some amount of enthusiasm that really wasnt there.

He agreed to join them as he didn't exactly have a choice.

He walked with the patrol glancing around for possible things to catch.  

He spotted a squirrel nearby and decided to try and get that one, maybe it could even be his lunch if the elders were already set.

The squirrel darted away to safety but it was not the only thing currently being hunted.

For watching the clan cats was a big beast just waiting for them to break apart form their tight pack group just as Stormwatcher had just done. This was its opportunity to strike and if it was lucky maybe it could have some cat for dinner.


It was a bit curious what in the world these cats were... was that the father and mother cat out front with a slow big brother and small little sister?? What an odd family they looked to be... well regardless it didnt matter as they soon would be appetizer, main course, and dessert.

Hmm for its appetizer that smallest one looked nice. And as the big slow one split off from the main group it left the little one all the more an easy target.


Before any of them knew what had happened a badger was charging right at Mistpaw!

It reared up on its hind legs and swung out at the apprentice with a heavy blow trying to pick the cats off one by one.

Stormwatcher whipped around hearing it and his fur stuck all out terrified watching the big creature attacking his clanmate.

"We just had to leave camp didnt we?" he muttered under his breath.

He could feel his own heart beating ridiculously fast. This wasnt the first time he had encounted a badger, he met one with that shadowclan cat awhile back ... what was her name again?? Eitehr way she basically handled it mostly on her own with him doing minimum effort... Ugh but she wasnt here now and Mistpaw was gonna be Mistgone if he didnt do something quick.

He was so not into fighting, but he had already rescued mist from a cage trap what would have been the point of all that just to let her die now to a badger??

He ran after the badger back towards the group and bit at its back trying to get it off Mistpaw.

Stormwatcher uses Snap for 8 damage and 7 sp. Plus 3 sp for failed hunt -10 sp

Creamsky had been a bit slow in managing to offer to join Astershine and the others - having been distracted grooming himself when the call went out. He followed behind thought, figuring that they wouldn't mind his company - which perhaps was for the best when a badger showed up. It moved fast, its attention on Mistpaw. His eyes widen as it raised a paw to strike at the apprentice - his paws carrying him before he even fully realized what was happening. His shoulder rammed into Mistpaw as he threw her out of the way just in time for the large paw to come down on him. He gritted his teeth as he held fast against the blow, tail lashing as blood started to run down his side.

Creamsky used Blocking Leap on Mistpaw, taking the damage instead and costing 5 stamina.

Astershine smiled at Stoneheart. "Thanks." The pale tom would have added more, an urge for Stormbringer to tag along, but Mistpaw soon approached, and the lazy warrior begrudgingly joined them. A skip in his step, Astershine led the patrol out of camp, relishing the feeling of the sun on his pelt.

The trip was filled with small chatter, cut short by the sudden crash of a badger through the underbrush. Before Astershine got time to turn around, the badger had already attacked some of his clanmates. Rushing towards the beast, he threw himself on top of it, pushing it down with all of the strength he could muster. He thought of the way Bloodstrike had pinned him down in their spar, attempting to imitate his strength. "Get it while it's down!"


Astershine used Leap and Hold on Badger, dealing 10 HP and costing 15 SP for each turn in affect. Badger is pinned for 1 turn!

Mistpaw joined them, and Stoneheart lightly flicked her tail across Mistpaw's flank in greeting. It had been more time than she'd like to admit since they had patrolled together, and Mistpaw's presence made the rest of the patrol's company easier to swallow. It wasn't that Stoneheart didn't like them, it was that she didn't know them well at all, aside from Stormwatcher who was her former mentor.

The patrol headed out into the territory, and before Stoneheart could even think of splitting from them to hunt, a badger appeared. Wonderful, really, and very unfortunate for the badger who was on Skyclan territory. Astershine rushed in to keep it occupied, and Stoneheart was beside him, slashing at the badger's flank with unsheathed claws.

Stoneheart uses Front Paw Strike on wild badger for -7 sp, dealing -8 damage.
