【Shadowclan】♡【#C1E1C1】♡【T4 Warrior ║ 60[HP] | 140[SP]】 ❖ Forestbreeze was leading her out of the camp after his apprentice to make her arrival. As promised, the warrior had awoken her in the early minutes of the morning and asked her to join him at the camp entrance. As soon as she did, he explained the plan for the day. First, they'll be touring the territory briefly to familiarize her with the major areas. Finally, they were to do some hunting training at their final stop. It was simple enough... He just hoped it remained as such... ღ
❖ For most of the morning, the mentor-apprentice duo traversed around the chilly, snowy marshes with Forestbreeze giving simple explanations of what each area was good for and what to expect to find there; The do's and don'ts of Shadowclan's territory as well. He had pointed out The Carrionplace and that it was a place where twolegs would dump their crowfood and other smelly junk, hence its name. A high number of rats scampered around the area. He then explained how, whenever food was too scarce in the other parts of their territory, their clan would resort to scouring that particular area for anything remotely edible. The rats had to be inspected carefully due to the high chance that they were diseased. It was a pitiful source of food (shameful enough for Shadowclan to try and keep it a secret) but if there was an urgent necessity for it, they must do what they could do to keep the clan afloat. Thankfully, they hadn't the need to hunt there in a while. A true blessing. After all that, he warned her to avoid the area alone in case there were any twolegs wandering about or lest she gets attacked by some vicious rats that may or may not get her ill. She shouldn't even need to go there. There was no need at the time. With that, they continued on. ღ
❖ Along the way to their next stop, Forestbreeze gave a rough explanation of the overall landscape and to expect plenty of wet, muddy paws—throw in "cold" there too since they were currently in Leaf-bare—the majority of the time since they resided mainly among the marshlands. Their dark forests gave them plenty of space to slink about. It was how the clan had gotten its name; Their main skill resided in being able to be one with the shadows to effectively surprise their foes (or prey). It was also the reason for many of their clanmates sporting a darker pelt, though, there were some exceptions. However, they were on the rarer side. ღ
❖ The next area they reached was The Deep Marshes. Immediately he warned her not to go there unless she was with a group comprised of a warrior or two—he'd rather this not happen at all but sometimes, there was no choice. He was still adamant that she be careful around the area. There, the marshes got so deep that they went up to the necks of some warriors, to the top of his shoulders in his case. Apprentices, elders, and those that were ill or injured were discouraged to meander The Dark Marshes unsupervised. Anything could happen with murky water that deep. He then went on to explain that their clan scoured the area for herbs (there was a better chance of finding some rarer ones there) and some unlucky prey that had stumbled into the marshes only to drown. He reiterated that any food was good food when there is a need. Before they left, he told her to watch her steps as some smaller "puddles" could turn out to be deeper than anticipated. ღ
❖ Finally, the duo arrived at The Pine Grove, his preferred hunting place. He had better luck there than most anywhere else. "Here we are, Tawnypaw. This is one of the better places to hunt in the territory. don't get me wrong, there are other good places for a quick hunt but this is just the place I like the most. However, you still need to be really careful here. Stay among the trees. Try not to wander into the clearing if you can help it. Twolegs and their monsters have been seen around here from time to time." A shiver ran down his spine but he schooled his features. "The scent of twolegs keeps the prey running amok the trees for cover. If timed correctly, it can be used to ambush prey," he paused for a moment then continued, "We'll be starting your hunting training here. Any questions about anything you've seen so far before we get started? It doesn't just have to be about The Pine grove." ღ

| Tawnypaw followed Forestbreeze as they toured the territory; it wasn't the first time she had gone out (sablestrike took her out once), but it was still strange to her. The tortoiseshell kept her ears pricked as her mentor gave her all the dos and don'ts: avoid the Carrionplace, watch your step in the Deep Marshes, where the Skyclan border was...
Finally, the tour was over. Was the territory really that big? How was a patrol supposed to keep constant watch on their borders without depleting the fresh-kill pile? Tawnypaw felt ready to collapse, but kept her head high; what was the point of being in a clan in she wasn't going to try her best to contribute?
"We'll be starting your hunting training here. Any questions about anything you've seen so far before we get started? It doesn't just have to be about The Pine grove."
"No, I think I've got everything," Tawnypaw mewed, hoping that she was right. I didn't forget anything, did I?

【Shadowclan】♡【#C1E1C1】♡【T4 Warrior ║ 60[HP] | 140[SP]】 ❖ Nodding at the apprentice's response, the grey-and-white warrior stepped back a few paces to give himself extra room to demonstrate. "Alright. Just remember that you can ask me any questions at any point, including outside of training." He gave her a warm smile before straightening up. "First things first, I need to teach you the hunting crouch. Be sure to watch me carefully. I will be demonstrating what I do alongside my explanation." He suddenly dropped into a normal crouch. "Step one is to start off with a simple crouch." He slowly lowered himself—the lower the crouch the better as it would provide a better means to hide amongst the foliage—until his belly was barely above the earth. "Next, you need to try and lower your body. Don't let your belly touch the ground as this will create an unnecessary rustling noise whenever you move." The warrior carefully began to shuffle his paws out to a more comfortable position. He kept still for Tawnypaw to take a better look. "As to not teeter around all lopsided, you'll want to spread your paws only until you feel balanced. Keep your weight distributed relatively evenly amongst your paws but put a bit more weight onto your hind paws. Remember that your hind legs must be positioned as if you are about to leap and your front as if you are about to pounce. It'll be a little tricky at first but with some practice, you'll be getting quicker and quicker." The only movement he did next was lift his tail just enough for it to not drag behind him. "Always keep your tail lowered but not dragging behind. If you lift it up too high, it could give away your position. On the other paw, if it's all the way onto the ground, it'll rustle everything as you sneak—similar to your belly. Keep it low but not touching. So, the best method is to keep it level with the ground—keep it straight behind you." ღ
❖ The warrior kept the pose for only a few moments more before standing back up. "That was the basic hunting crouch. There are other methods used to hunt but this is usually the basis." He paused, settled down, then continued, "Alright, I will be showing you what it looks like in motion, then, I want you to try it out for yourself." Forest dropped down into the hunting crouch with ease, slowly beginning to slink around with softened pawsteps. "Remember to keep your pawsteps light. You wouldn't want to alert anything or anyone that you're on your way with how noticeable your steps are." He continued sneaking around for half a minute before sitting up. "It's your turn now, Tawnypaw. Show me your position before moving around. I want to see if anything needs to be corrected. After this, I'll explain the prey that is found in our territory and how to hunt each of them and finally, we'll begin hunting." Forestbreeze signaled for Tawnypaw to begin. He made sure to give her as much space as he himself had. ღ

| Tawnypaw watched carefully as Forestbreeze showed her the basic crouch, trying to absorb everything at once. Now all she needed was to try it for herself. She let herself drop into the crouch she always did as a kit. Right, keep her belly and tail above the ground, but not too high. Be comfortable enough to move, but still tense. She stilled her ears and tail, careful not to move a muscle. Lastly, she shifted some of her weight onto her hindlegs.
Glancing at Forestbreeze, she tried her best to read his expression. The warrior nodded his head with a smile. "Very good, Tawnypaw. You learn quickly. It is well done for a first try; I see nothing to correct so we will now move on to the next part." He sat down with his tail wrapped around his paws before speaking up again, "Now, the prey most commonly found within the territory are as follows: frogs, toads, all types of lizards, mice, and rats. We also see the occasional voles, minks, ferrets, and weasels wandering about nearer to the deeper marshes. There's also a whole slew of bugs that are usually just used for practice hunting. The rarer creatures that can sometimes be spotted in our territory are all sorts of birds, hares, rabbits, and squirrels. They aren't from around here so it's tricky trying to catch one." ღ❖ He stopped to give himself a breather and Tawny a chance to process the sudden influx of information. He continued a few moments later, "Most prey are either quick, slippery, or have special tricks they utilize to escape our claws. Over many, many moons, the clans have developed methods to overcome the problems for the prey in our respective territories. For example, Thunderclan cats are well-known tree climbers. They have an abundance of squirrels, birds, and other tree-dwelling prey. They usually have to know how to properly scale up trees to chase squirrels in case one escapes their grasp. Riverclan's staple prey is fish and fishing requires their utmost concentration and a whole lot of patience. Windclan has rabbits and hares—which are the quickest prey by far and require intense speed and stamina. Skyclan have powerful hind legs to overcome the issues bird hunting can have. Birds have the ability to escape into the sky so one must be able to leap up high to try and block their means of escape. Our marshes are home to lots of slippery frogs and toads—which are able to escape into the marshes or blend into their surroundings—but we mostly specialize in our quiet, shadow-centric techniques that are best suited to hunt mice, rats, and the like. Their hearing is very delicate and it needs us to utilize very light pawsteps and precise movements. All clans have other prey available to them but usually specialize in one or two." ღ❖ "When hunting all types of prey, you require patience, silence, and reflexes. But before then, you must scent out your prey. Open up all your senses and focus them all around you to get the best coverage. However, don't forget to keep your eyes and ears sharp for things other than prey—losing your awareness will leave you open for threats to catch you off guard." Forestbreeze got up and nodded at his apprentice. "It's now time to put ourselves to work; It's now time to start hunting. We will both do our own attempts but be assured that I'll be close by. Also, keep in mind that Leaf-bare is a tricker time for hunting so there is a big chance that one or both of us may miss our catches but remember that we can keep trying... only until I say it is time to leave or we are prematurely forced to leave." ღ❖ With that, the warrior began to walk in a random direction, mindful of the snow crunching beneath his paws. He scented the air and found himself drawn to a mouse's scent not far from their previous position. He carefully closed the distance and stayed relatively close to the sparse treeline, using the shade as cover. He soon spotted the source of the smell—which was sniffing around next to some foliage—and dropped down into the hunting crouch. he, with quiet pawsteps, crept forward and only paused until he was at a safe distance away. A second passed, then another. He waited for the right moment to strike. All of a sudden, he sprang forward. ღ

❖ Only Forestbreeze would have this much rotten luck! It had started off as a rather decent catching attempt. However, some heavy steps coming from his left alerted the mouse and it quickly scurried away before he could complete his jump; He landed on nothing but snow. The warrior's attention was taken by the looming presence that had broken through the treeline by that point. "A twoleg!" he gasped, fur rising in fright. It must've wandered over during the beginning of their hunts since he hadn't scented it prior. They needed to leave if twolegs were going to be roaming the area. The warrior quickly rushed over to where he'd last seen his apprentice. "Tawnypaw! We have to go! Twolegs are starting to wander over here. We can't stay any longer or we'd risk getting captured or hurt." He hoped their retreat back to camp wouldn't be plagued with obstacles. ღ______________________________________

| Tawnypaw nodded along to the new information. When Forestbreeze had finished, he began hunting for some prey. Tawnypaw watched, fascinated, as the tom seemed to sense a mouse more than a fox-length away, and dropped into a crouch. Suddenly, the ground beneath her trembled and the mouse darted away. What the-
"A Twoleg!" Tawnypaw's eyes widened as she realized that the pounding of noises and vibrations belonged to Twolegs, the horrible monsters that stood on their hindlegs and captured so many of her clanmates. Darn it! Part of her demanded that she faced the beast claw-first. a true warrior never fleas from a danger to their clan, and this is a chance to avenge all my missing and dead clanmates! But it was pointless fighting a Twoleg, she knew.
With a hiss of frustration, Tawnypaw darted away into the pine trees, heading for where she hoped was the windclan border.
