| | Darkkit ☆ RiverClan | Darkkit's green eyes glimmered as he looked out across the river. The banks had swelled unusually high from the forest's most recent storms, and now the little bengal tom could see the glittering water from the edge of the RiverClan camp. Hopefully it goes down a bit before I have to learn how to swim in it, he thought, flattening his ears. He was nearly six moons old, and it wouldn't be long until he was officially made an apprentice. Darkkit glanced over his shoulder towards the camp. Most of the cats were on their way to their nests for the evening, and the few that remained were clumped together in twos and threes, sharing fresh-kill and no doubt gossiping about the events of the day. The rest of the RiverClan nursery was playing mossball, a game that had never really interested Darkkit. He couldn't see the point of tiring themselves out over something that silly. Darkkit looked back at the swollen river. As the sun fell deeper across the sky, casting golden shadows on the waves beneath it, he shivered. The sky was covered in pink and orange clouds, bringing an eerie glow to the snow that covered the ground of the RiverClan camp. A twig snapped from somewhere behind him. Darkkit jumped, whirling around to face the source of the noise. ______________________________________ ⋆ #ff9966 ☆ #6666cc ☆ #cc99cc ⋆ |

| Weaselkit smirked at Darkkit's raised fur and rigid stance as she walked up to him. "Calm down, Darkkit. It's only me," she said with a giggle. Weaselkit walked up to Darkkit and nudged him, so they both faced the quick river again. The cool evening air and the snow under her paws made her shiver, and she pressed against Darkkit's side.
"Can you believe that we'll learn how to swim soon? And be apprentices?" She asked, not really expecting an answer.
To Weaselkit, it felt like the last nearly six months of her life had crawled by. From the quiet and dark days just after her birth to the slow process of learning to walk and talk, every day had felt like a thousand. She didn't much care to be a warrior, but she had gotten sick of the monotony of camp. Her paws ached with the desire to run across grass and stones that she had never seen before. Do anything new.
She bumped against Darkkit with her side, breaking him from his stare at the dark churning water.
"What are you thinking about?" she asked. |

| | Darkkit ☆ RiverClan | Darkkit forced his fur to lie flat, feeling embarrassed for just a moment. He was grateful when Weaselkit pressed herself against him; it really was starting to get cold out here, and his fur definitely wasn't built for leafbare just yet. The river, dark and dangerous as the night stretched on, was churning roughly from the excess water. He flicked his ears at Weaselkit's question. In truth, he'd been thinking about finally becoming a RiverClan apprentice, and everything it would take to prove himself worthy of one day becoming a RiverClan warrior. "Our apprentice ceremony," he admitted to Weaselkit. "I was just wondering who my mentor might be." Maybe Minksplash, or Reedtail...or maybe it'll be Poppyshine, he thought. He didn't think any of them had apprentices, but he hadn't exactly been born yet the last time a round of RiverClan kits were given mentors. I just hope I'll have a good mentor, Darkkit thought. ______________________________________ ⋆ #ff9966 ☆ #6666cc ☆ #cc99cc ⋆ |

| Weaselkit barely resisted tensing with anxiety at Darkkit's words. It seemed that all anyone wanted to talk about was the apprentice ceremony. It was heavy on all their minds. She knew that Darkkit was worried about the ceremony, but she thought he didn't need to be. He was already so sure of himself, grown-up past playing the games she and the other kits enjoyed.
Looking out at the river water reflecting the expansive, darkening sky, Weaselkit felt very small.
"Me too," she said.
After a long moment, giving herself a shake, she stood and stretched.
"Well, bye," Weaselkit said. She turned as if to head back toward the center of camp, but at the last second pivoted to run at Darkkit, knocking him over. She hissed playfully and batted at one of his ears.
"Come play mossball with us," she said, nodding her head toward the other kits. "Before it gets too dark."

| | Darkkit ☆ RiverClan | "It's already too dark," Darkkit said, flattening his ears as he shoved Weaselkit off of him. The last thing he felt like doing was playing, especially with how cold it had grown without the weight of the sun above them. He wished desperately that he could skip ahead to his apprentice ceremony so that he would know for sure who his mentor was, and so he could finally get started on becoming a RiverClan warrior. Something had felt...not so right in his heart during his last moon in the nursery; Darkkit worried that his apprenticeship might not be as easy as he'd previously hoped for. Maybe that's StarClan warning me, he thought with uneasiness, glancing up at the starry sky that seemed to drown at the edges of churning river water. Darkkit didn't think StarClan would have much to do with a single RiverClan kit, let alone one who wasn't going to be a medicine cat. So why am I feeling this nervous? ______________________________________ ⋆ #ff9966 ☆ #6666cc ☆ #cc99cc ⋆ |
