Stormdance
Riverclan Territory
Stormdance listened to the faint crunch of pawsteps in snow as he walked down to the river side. The normal quiet sounds of the territory had given away to a sharp stillness, broken only by the noises of his patrol and the distant sounds of twolegs occasionally shattering the peace. Stormdance watched, wary, for signs of traps, but they reached the bank without spotting one, which made Stormdance’s shoulders relax slightly.
Stormdance reached a paw over and pressed it against the light coating of ice over the river as he settled down on the chilled bank, breaking it up to make room enough for the three warriors to hunt. Fish were harder to catch and the water was cold, but there were still fish, and for that much, Stormdance was grateful.
He glanced at his companions. He did not know Flamegaze or Reedtail all that well. Perhaps that was something he could rectify on this hunt, if he could just remember how one started a conversation. He felt a familiar, if aggravating, sense of shyness at the thought of breaking the quiet, still air to speak, and his eyes quickly returned to the river’s sluggishly moving surface.
A shadow passed by, and Stormdance was quick to reach a paw in to try and hook his claws into the fish swimming underneath the surface. Unfortunately, he mistimes it slightly, and the fish's slippery scales pass right by the tip of his claws. He tried to readjust, but all he was left with was a wet and cold paw. He shook out his fur and gave a soft 'tsk' of frustration at the lost prey. He opened his mouth to wish his companions better luck, when a sharp screech made his ears lay flat and he whips his head around to locate the source of the noise. Before he had the time to react, a blur of brown fur raced up and pounced onto Stormdance's tail, sinking it's sharp teeth in.
Stormdance yelped, let out an offended, "Ow!" and unsheathed his claws, reaching over to slash at the weasel. Again with the weasels? His leg is still sore from the last one!
Stormdance summoned a predator and failed his hunting roll, costing -5 SP! The weasel uses Gripping Bite, dealing -7 damage and costing -15 SP. Stormdance uses Front Paw Strike, dealing -10 damage and costing -7 SP.
Despite the cold, Flamegaze had been happy to go out hunting. He didn't know the two toms he was with very well, but it didn't really matter, they were his clanmates. As the trio made their way down to the banks of the frozen-over river, Flamegaze glanced around uneasily. He'd been captured when twolegs had storm fourtrees, and he hadn't quite shaken the fear that they would come crashing through the forest again with their pale, outstretched, misshapen paws and silver traps. Thankfully, it seemed there were none of sight for the moment, but the lingering anxiety still made it impossible for the flame point to relax, ginger tabby tail tip twitching back and forth the only sign of it, however.
Stormdance broke the ice - literally - and Flamegaze sat nearby, but not so close that their shadows crossed or that they would be in each other's way. No luck was to be had yet, as when a silvery form darted pasted his waiting paw, Flamegaze's head snapped up at the sound of a screech.
A weasel. Because of course they couldn't just fish in peace. Great.
"Oh no you don't, you fuzzy viper." Flamegaze growled, leaping forward and slashing at the weasel with unsheathed claws.
Flamegaze used Front Paw Strike for -7sp, dealing -8 damage.
