Subject: Creampaw's Warrior Ceremony Tue 10 Jan 2023 - 6:23
Birdstar
One of their many apprentices was ready to become a warrior. It was far from Birdstar's first time performing a such a ceremony, but it would be her first as leader. In a way, that made it feel just a bit special, a small flicker of nervous joy like she'd felt for her very first ceremonies in her chest. Leaping atop the Great Rock, she scanned the crowd, and when she spotted the tom in question felt a little pang of sadness that Blackbear wasn't here to half-heartedly listen to the proceedings. But holding him back would only be a disservice, so Birdstar shook out her pelt and called, "Let all cats old enough to climb the trees, gather beneath the Great Rock for a Clan meeting!"
Creampaw's ears twitched as Birdstar's call rang out across Fourtrees, head turning to look at the leader before he rose to his paws and padded over. His mind has been in a rush recently, ever since his trip to the Moonstone. He often thought about what Birdsong had said and when to act on it, but it was still...Hard. The idea of sharing his feelings - the ones he tried so hard not to dwell on lest they cause his very heart to ache...
Maybe soon. He wasn't sure - but for now, it was more important to pay attention to whatever this summoning was about. He sat down, ears remaining perk for whatever Birdstar had to say as he glanced around for Lightningpaw, hoping that she would of course sit next to him as always.
Birdstar gave a moment for the rest of the Clan to gather before tipping her chin up to speak again. "Creampaw, please step forward." She allowed another beat both to catch his attention and give him a chance to step up. When he'd done so, "StarClan, I call upon you to look down on this apprentice. He's trained hard to understand the ways of your noble code, and I commend him to you as a warrior in turn. Creampaw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code, to protect and defend your Clan, even at the cost of your life?"
Creampaw's ears perked as his name was called, tail swishing as it struck him what this meant. His focus on training had paid of. He had thrown himself into his training as a distraction, hoping that things would be clearer once he was a warrior but he didn't actually... He was hardly the oldest apprentice within the Clan, but he had done it - it was his warrior ceremony. There was a tinge of sadness - he was leaving Lightningpaw behind. They had become apprentices so close together, they had done almost everything together but...
Well, he wasn't going to leave her behind - they were friends. Best friends, so what if he had his warrior name first. If she ever wanted to go hunting or on a walk, he would be there with her. She had stuck with him through everything, the least he could do was do the same. He took a step forward, standing straight as Birdstar continued on with the ceremony. Finally, the question was asked - was he prepared to risk everything to protect SkyClan?
Creampaw's answer came simply, like it was the only thing that made sense to say. In a way, it was– had anyone ever denied those sacred words before? A twinge of sadness hit Birdstar's chest as she looked down at the tom, saddened to think when Blackbear came home, he would be a new cat. But that would be something for them to celebrate, not mourn. "Then I grant you your full name as a warrior. From this day on, you'll be known to all as Creamsky. We honor your caution and intelligence." Leaping off the Rock, Birdstar padded over, bending down to touch her nose to the newly-named warrior's head. "Congratulations, Creamsky. You've earned your life here; good luck with your vigil," she whispered before moving away to let others congratulate him.
Creamsky. There was a sense of pride and awe being granted the honor of being granted the same name as the Clan itself. As Birdstar leapt down and approached, a soft purr rose in his throat - before it drifted off in confusion. 'You've earned your life here.' ...What did that mean? As the leader padded away, he watched her go with a twitch of his ear. ...Well, it had been hard to know his place after Blackbear had left - so much of...Him had been connected with hers. But now, he felt like he had knowledge on where he stood.
He shook his head, a sigh of relief escaping him. Right, his vigil. Simple enough, watch the Clan for the night. He could do that. Another purr escaped him as he turned and padded away to find the spot where he would sit for the night - excitement in his paws.
Lightningpaw was always curious about Clan meetings, and this time was no exception. For once, though, it was something personal to her: not her ceremony, but that of her best friend. He took his warrior's oath like it was simple, like it was easy, and she purred with pride for him. In some sense, they were parting ways- at least for now- but if he wanted to run forward into new responsibilities before she could follow, she would be there to support him.
Birdchaser (or Birdstar; she'd had some trouble adjusting to that, and she'd mostly managed by not speaking of their new leader by name at all) spoke of him earning his place here, and she wondered about it for a moment before brushing it aside.
"Creamsky! Creamsky!" she called, ensuring that her voice could be heard over the rest as she dashed forward to where he would sit vigil. Her excitement, whether or not she understood why he'd chosen to move forward now, was as genuine as it ever was. "Congratulations! You did it!"
