The Wind in the Shadows [O]

Call it curiosity or stupidity, but Amberstone wanted to go to the Hidden Outcropping. Shadowclan had bigger issues to deal with than trying to keep Windclan cats off of their territory. She wasn't here to take prey, though she would if opportunity knocked, nor was she here to claim the area. She mostly wanted to see what it was like to be here. If she ran into a Shadowclan cat by some weird chance, then she would high tail it out of here. Did those sun-allergic shadow cats think they could catch a Windclan cat? Ha. Besides, it was well into sun-high. They were likely sleeping.

It's kind of stupid to be fighting over the land when one side isn't even awake during the day to defend it. Really there shouldn't be any competition at all... but whatever. Everyone had a stick up their rear about these things. Amberstone spotted a mouse and made a dive for it. Why not? It was a mouse. It wasn't like she was about to steal a flock of birds and a field full of hares. It was a mouse. Shadowclan could get over it.

Well apparently Shadowclan wouldn't have to do jack because a hawk was already taking care of the situation. Amberstone, purely reacting rather than thinking, lashed out with her claws on instinct. Crapcrapcrapcrapcrap! She thought as she swung and dodged wildly.

'Invasion Dice' :

Russetrye had been wrapping up a solo hunting patrol when she’d come across a familiar scent- the molly she’d hunted with. Amberstone. What was she doing headed towards the very outskirts of their territory? Was Russetrye about to discover a forbidden romance? Oooh! Being as stealthy as possible, the young warrior followed Amberstone’s scent trail… which headed past the ShadowClan markings. Faint as they might’ve been, Russetrye was hesitant to put paw past them… but surely Amberstone wasn’t too far off. And she really really wanted to know who the other she-cat was meeting.

Hiding behind a rock, Russetrye peeked out to find her Clanmate… fighting an eagle? Huh? Whoever Amberstone might’ve been meeting, they weren’t here now…. And she couldn’t leave another WindClanner to fight a predator alone. Russetrye had never fought an eagle herself… but it wasn’t that big. Not nearly as big as a Twoleg. And surely it would have difficulty carrying her off. Right?

Banishing any worries, Russetrye leapt into action, grabbing one of the eagle’s (or was it a hawk? Was there a difference?) wings and yanking, hard, discombobulating the enormous bird. Sharp talons swung at her face, but the red-pelted warrior darted backwards. This wasn’t terribly hard- but Amberstone had already taken a hit, and they’d better leave before ShadowClan found them.

“You okay?” she asked, keeping an eye on the dazed bird.

Amberstone barely registered the flash of red fur that came to assist her, but once she did realize that it was another cat, Russetrye to be exact, she was grateful. The bit of fear that she had experienced from the hawk attacking from nowhere was gone in an instant. She had help. She'd be fine. "Yeah it's just a scratch. Thank you!" She responded to her fellow Windclanner. The only thing she was afraid of now was that Russetrye might get hurt too. That wasn't happening. Amberstone, now able to focus a bit better, launched herself at the hawk while it was stunned. Better to take it down now than let it follow them home to possible hurt kits.

"Let's finish this and book it out of here!" She said with a growl, finding her courage to defend a clanmate.

Nightstar had been surveying Shadowclans territory with his friend, Locustcall, where they were determining the state of it to see if it would be hospitable once more. The snow, however, was certainly putting a damper on the progression of things, but trudging through the snow was better than trying to sleep the day away when Windclan was not far off causing a ruckus. The tom was about to dip further in, when the sounds of battle and chatter, reached his ears. Dropping low, but not quite a crouch, he motioned for his companion to do the same before he found himself rushing as fast as he dared to the commotion.

It did not take long for them to arrive, just as a red she-cat - that the leader recognized to be a Windclan cat - rushed to the aid of another Windclan cat fighting a hawk. They were too focused to realize the two toms were there, and Nightstar watched for a moment as they fought it. He just wanted to let the Hawk tear them apart so he didn't have to deal with it, but it was obviously a losing battle for the Hawk. And perhaps, with a rumbling growl, Nightstar would help that bird out. Easing into a crouch, he wiggled his haunches before launching out of the underbrush with a shrill battle cry.

Alliance or not, he would not tolerate Windclan cats trespassing on his territory. Again.

Nightstar went for the larger she-cat, claws unsheathed as he slammed into her, clawed maw peeled back in a snarl as his jaws opened and snapped around the she-cat's scruff. Through the fur, skin, and flesh, a treacherous growl emerged "You're not going anywhere."

Locustcall had been hoping the territory was habitable again. He was anxious to return to familiar ground, to not have to share a space with another clan so close and noisy. However, before they could reach their original home, Locustcall paused at the sound of yowls in the distance. He didn't have to be told twice, lowering his stance and pinning his ear against his head. Who else would have strayed in their territory?

He eventually got his answer, bird blood and Windclan scent wafting into his nose. Intruders. Just because they were ousted from their territory didn't mean it was now free reign for any rabbit chasers willing to try their luck. When they approached the scene finding the two already locked in combat with a hawk, Locustcall looked to the black tom for instruction. He watched Nightstar's muscles bunch beneath his long coat and quickly caught the hint. Good, he was itching for a proper battle.

His leader burst from the shadows, Locustcall following soon after, his claws extended to latch into the red she-cat. He bowled into her with all of his weight, his torn lips pulled back into a wrathful snarl. He wasn't going to let these two Windclanners think Shadowclan was slacking.

Locustcall used Jumping Strike on Russetrye, costing 7 SP and dealing 8 damage (+3 for first attack)!

“Yeah let’s get out of here-“ Russetrye began- but then two toms appeared from the shadows, lunging forwards- and one was foxing Nightstar. He sunk his fangs into Amberstone’s flesh and Russetrye let out a yelp, leaping forwards to help her Clanmate, the predator all but forgotten- but then a calico blur knocked her to the ground, sharp claws tearing into her flesh as a terrifyingly scarred ShadowClanner snarled in her face. “Wha- what the stars? We weren’t hunting or anything, the eagle just attacked us-“ Rolling to the side, she lashed out, claws raking the ShadowClanner’s shoulder.

The red-pelted warrior threw herself to her paws, ready to bolt- but Amberstone wasn’t in any position to run, not with Nightstar atop of her. Ugh. As soon as the other she-cat got the ShadowClan leader off her, they would bolt. “It was an accident! Helping you out! Fighting a hawk! I thought that was t’ whole point of a-“ her words were cut off as she snapped her attention back to her current opponent, snarling lowly. As soon as possible, she would get out of here- but she wasn’t leaving a Clanmate behind.

A hawk was suddenly the least of her concerns. At first she didn't recognize Nightstar, only that a tall tom cat had come out of left field and pinned her. Fear exploded inside Amberstone and her words caught in her throat. Her mouth was suddenly completely dry as adrenaline coursed through her veins. It didn't help once she realized the big tom was the Shadowclan leader. Amberstone rolled, acting out in panicked instinct. This was her fault... all because she wanted to do something dumb and reckless. At least the hawk had also panicked and flew off at its first chance.

She wanted to tell the Shadowclanners to leave Russetrye alone. She really did... but the words wouldn't come out. She managed to wiggle away from Nightstar however, and she was on her feet in an instant. How... how had she managed that? There was nothing but fear in her wide eyes as she stood in one spot and panted. She'd been trained to fight, but her training left her as she stared at Nightstar. All she wanted was to flee. The instant her limbs would obey her she would be gone.

Nightstar stood straight and still for a heartbeat, his nose tipped to the air and his mouth opening to drink all of the scents in the area before he re-adjusted his molten hot gaze to look into the terror-filled eyes of the she-cat before him. A tongue flicked out and swiped across his maw as a sneer broke the cool facade, "I just love the smell of fear." A low, gravelly chuckle followed the statement as he began to advance on the fear-stricken molly.

Shadowclans leader did not give her enough reprieve to find time to escape or develop a plan, aside from letting her sit in her own fear. Breaking into a run to cover the short distance, he fell and twisted himself to slide underneath her belly, his claws finding their home in her soft underbelly as he shredded it. He'd save no remorse, and he wouldn't hold back his strength or anger as he ripped into her soft, vulnerable, and unguarded belly. When he was happy with the damage done, or otherwise, he rolled himself from underneath her and faced her again, if not to enjoy the reactions.

The sharp sting of claws tore through his shoulder, the large tom hissing in pain and recoiling just enough for the she-cat to roll back onto her paws. Then she started babbling about an accident, how they were helping. Locustcall snorted in indignation. "Foxdung! You have no reason to be here! Shadowclan can handle its own predators, you were just here to sneak while we weren't looking." Shadowclan didn't need help, Shadowclan wasn't stupid enough to believe his weasel's lies, and Shadowclan certainly didn't need Windclan! "I'll chase you off like any other rat!"

The scarred tom bounded forward once more, His forelegs wide to hastily snatch around the Windclanner's neck, allowing him a steady hold as he dug his fangs deep into her scruff and forced them back to the ground. He craved to feel the sanguine liquid flow onto his tongue, to struggle in a proper battle with a proper enemy. He needed these cats off his territory, but a few scratches wouldn't do either. Locustcall needed to render them into scraps.
