Locust scoffed. "Of course, I can't let you win again," he declared to his prone opponent, a wide, prideful grin pressing into his cheeks. He graciously let the she-cat return to her paws, though perhaps only because it would allow him easier access to her scruff, which he was quick to lunge for. He rushed to her side, raising up onto his back paws so he could get a mouthful of the thick fur around her neck. While one paw kept him secured, the other battered her muzzle and cuffed over her ears in a messy flurry. Lacking in his usual strength, he had to whittle her down with many quick blows. He would need to practice more to build up the bulk he had lost while away. He wouldn't stand being behind his peers for long.

You can’t let me win again?” Dawnfeather purred with amusement as she rolled to her paws. “I wasn’t aware that you had any say in this, hmmm?” He went for her scruff- she winced in pain as sharp teeth grabbed onto the back on her neck. Ugh. Why did that hurt so much- the flurry of quick blows over her head went almost unnoticed as she twisted out of his grasp like a weasel, snapping at his paws. The golden molly danced backwards, shaking her head to clear the ringing in her ears.

She fell into a defensive stance, eyes locked on Cicadapaw. The calico tom wouldn’t be able to last much longer, she didn’t think. She gave it only a few more minutes before he had to admit defeat.

Dawnfeather used Dodge and Fight, rolling for counterattack. Counterattack successful, dealing 7 damage and costing 7 stamina.

The nip to his paw made him yelp and leap back, the two putting distance between them. "Of course I do... Though perhaps I'll be courteous and not hand you your hide this time." He was starting to pant, inhaling deep lungfuls of the crisp cold air to satiate his protesting limbs. Some warriors might have admitted defeat right then to lick the bruises underneath their coats, but Locust had a habit of going until he couldn't anymore, and it was no different in spars.

He lashed out once more with a paw, striking up into her jaw. It wasn't much; he couldn't push his muscles to run and hop around nor did he have the positioning to do something sneaky, he just didn't want to admit his loss yet. A proper warrior only yielded when they were pinned and exhausted.

Maybe if Dawnfeather had been less tired she would’ve been able to dodge the swift paw strike- or if her head hadn’t been ringing- but as it was she recoiled, leaning into the force of the blow to swiftly rear up onto her hind paws before bringing sheathed front paws down roughly onto Cicadapaw’s shoulders, unprecedented strength from hours upon hours of climbing forcing the tom down. She’d gone easy on him so far. Now, however, she thought it was time for their spar to be done, much though she’d enjoyed it. His earlier attack, through no fault of his own, must’ve struck a soft spot she hadn’t been aware she possessed, and she would rather not press her luck. This wasn’t a real battle. Just a friendly spar, between friends. Herself and Cicadapaw.

“Ready to surrender yet?” she mewed lightly, tail waving behind her. “I think we both know who has won here, hmm, oh ancient one?”

The sudden retribution was unexpected, the top yelping as he crumbled to the ground under her strength. His teeth clacked painfully together when his jaw struck the ground, just barely missing the fragile tongue behind them. He grumbled quietly, though the sound slowly morphed into a low chuckle. "I do admit, you do look to have won here. Perhaps your old dusty bones have bested mine." It hurt a bit to admit. Locust had terrible luck with spars, he couldn't remember one against Nightstar or Dawnfeather where he was the victor. This was just a show of how behind he was and how he needed to get stronger... quickly.

However, the moment Dawnfeather's grip loosened, Locust lurched upward like a snake, his front paws latching around her and shifting to drag her down onto the frosty ground to his level. "However, I don't surrender!" Not until his limbs were too exhausted to carry him, anyway. It would make the long journey back to highstones torturous, but it would also make him stronger... hopefully.

Dawnfeather smiled gently as she prepared to step away from the tom, an encouraging word on her tongue… and then Cicadapaw surged forwards once more. Startled, Dawnfeather’s chin collided with his skull, sending sparks of pain through her jaw and forcing him down once more. Ouch. The golden she-cat rolled to her paws, tasting blood in her mouth from where she’d bitten her tongue. No matter. Cicadapaw was surely defeated now- yes, knowing when to admit defeat was a virtue, yet one this scrappy tom seemed to have never possessed. “Are we done? I think continuing would be hazardous to our health.” There was an amused trill to the words as she spoke them. Perhaps most cats would’ve been annoyed at the trick, yet Dawnfeather saw it as further insight into Cicadapaw’s character.

Locust feigned to ponder the suggestion, but eventually nodded, trying to hide how much he was puffing. "For now, I wouldn't want to overexert you," he yielded, remaining on the grassy floor where he was. Locust was playing coy, but they both knew he had lost this round. This time, it sparked no jealousy, just reminding him he would need to bulk up again now he was back with his clan. If this were a real fight with a Skyclan warrior, this would have been embarrassing.

Locust was K.O'ed!

He let his limbs rest for a moment before he forced himself to rise back to them again. He had spent time he was meant to be hunting talking to a Skyclan get and getting his hide handed to him; he should start heading back to highstones before he was too tired to make the journey. "I should be heading back... but thank you for this, I really needed it." He gave himself a quiet reminder that this shouldn't be a habit, their friendship had posed issues in the past, but allowing himself a little break should be fine. He was still returning to his clan with prey after all.
