Pale moonlight struggled to pass through dusty window panes, faintly illuminating the rooms inside of the Overrun Nest. The windows whistled as bitter cold winds pushed up against the house's exterior, but the area inside the house was warm. The cats trapped inside had no way of returning to their clans to gather for the full moon, but could at least console each other under the dull light that shone through the windows.

Sunpaw sat in the corner of the room, busily chewing away at his collar. This was the fifth collar the blasted Twoleg had tried to put on him, and soon it would be the fifth one he’d ruined. He was going to escape and go home sooner or later, after all, and he wasn’t about to let Applepaw see him wearing one of these stupid things.

Trapped without a clear view of the outside world, Poppy found that while she was keeping her spirits as high as she could she was losing track of time. It was growing difficult to piece together even which season it would be, though surely it couldn't have been that long?
The faint glow of moonlight reached her, dull as it was, and she wondered if she would ever get to see it shine brightly again.
The cats around her seemed somewhat more depressed than usual, too, but she couldn't place why. Maybe the clan cats placed more significance on these things?
Whatever it was, the sadness was affecting her, too. Being out of touch with the seasons was the worst fate she could imagine for any Garden-raised cat. It was the flow of their lives, even when they were distant from their home; that, and the stars she couldn't make out, and the breeze she couldn't feel, were the last connections any drifter kept hold of on their travels.

Crookedpaw could not believe that his first Gathering, which he had been terribly looking forward to, was going to be spent in this twoleg nest. The irony of it could not be more bitter-tasting. He wanted his first official Gathering to be spent with Rainpaw, talking with cats of other clans without the threat of twolegs looming over them, and instead…here he was, in a twoleg nest with a stupid twoleg collar clasped around his neck. It was an all-black collar with a “bowtie” as the twoleg cooed. It was scratchy and annoying. He admired the determination of Sunpaw in the corner, chewing away at his collar. Crookedpaw’s overgrown tooth got in the way of such things, so he was forced to deal with the collar until he figured out how to squeeze his head through it.
For the past several days, he’d stuck exclusively to Rowanpaw. He’d grown somewhat attached to the RiverClan cat. But given tonight being the night of a Gathering, and the social aspect that was supposed to come with it…Crookedpaw decided, why not?
He approached the she-cat named Poppy. He had not spoken to her almost at all. He could tell she was not a clan cat, and so it was uncommon to really speak with anyone outside the clans…but Crookedpaw was lonely and could use any company. “Are you doing alright tonight?”

Deerbounce of Skyclan
Deerbounce stood where she always stood, atop the tallest cat tower. It’d taken her no more than an hour to reach the peak of the room. Her soft head crested the dusty ceiling. It wasn’t nearly as tall as a real tree, nor as thrilling. Still, she was rather content with her new home. Of course, she wasn’t abandoning her warrior life. Feathers attached to a string were incredibly lackluster compared to actual starlings or robins. No, kittypet was indeed not the life for her. But… what was the rush? The lady was nice enough. She had given Deerbounce an uncomfortable, but cute collar. Bright blue, like the sky she dreamed of touching. It had a tag with scribbles on it. Not that she knew, but the etches wrote Pancake. Below her sepia gaze were her fellow captives. They all bit at their collars, not understanding it as a token of affection from the lady. Deerbounce herself wasn’t sure why she understood the woman’s intentions, but perhaps it was because of her adventures in twoleg gardens. Whatever the reason, she knew they were in no danger.
Maybe I can lighten the mood.
Deerbounce cheerily lowered herself from her beloved perch, and knocked some toys down with her. “Come on guys, it’s not that bad. I promise we’ll return to the forest soon. I saw them do it before, out through there,” she briefly flicked her tail over to the front door, “But let’s make the most of it while we wait. Frowning won’t speed up time.” She smiled to an apprentice she recognized before rolling a plastic ball toward him. The little bell inside rang playfully. Crookedpaw, if she remembered correctly.
[Deerbounce tries to cheer everyone up, and offers to play with Crookedpaw.]

Crookedpaw looked up when one of the cats lowered to the ground. He perked up just a tiny bit. He had not spoken with Deerbounce much, but she was from his clan, and so was a familiar face. It was nice to know that he was not alone here, and he had someone who remembered the tall pines and birdsong. His eyes followed the ball that she batted onto the floor. It rang with a little bell. The twoleg toy was not the same as chasing actual prey, but he supposed he could appreciate the attempt; especially when it was coming from his clanmate. He stood and moved forward, shuffling his paws along the ground. He batted it with his hand, rolling it back towards Deerbounce. His stomach twisted with longing to be back home, but he smiled for Deerbounce’s sake. Frowning won’t speed up time, so…he may as well be happy, right?
