Rushingkit's Apprentice Ceremony

Rain poured down for what must have been the third day in a row. Perchstar did not really care about how soaked her fur was getting. RiverClan cats were used to being wet. However, she did wonder whether the storms would stop anytime soon. It was becoming more difficult to fish in the increasingly flooded river, and even the water-resistant dens of moss were beginning to get waterlogged. Either way, despite the damp sand of the ground in camp getting even more damp, life had to continue, and ceremonies had to be performed. Even though Poppyshine should have been performing them... well, there was little to be done about it. The deputy would rest and recover. She would recover. If the leader stopped telling herself that, then life would no longer become possible. She was just... taking over her duties... temporarily. That was it. "Let all cats old enough to catch their own fish gather for a Clan meeting," she called, her voice just audible over the torrents of rain. Hopefully Rushingkit would make it out of the nursery in this weather.

◐ At the leader's meeting call, Rushing scampered out of the nursery only to begin sputtering and spitting as the rain hit her face. It had been pouring the last few days and the she-kit had been mostly confined in the nursery. Her mother refused to allow her to go out and play and Rushing wanted to tear her fur out due to the boredom that consumed her. This meeting allowed her the opening to finally bolt away from her 'prison'. However, she miscalculated how rough the rain really was and got a rude awakening.

Her stubbornness came through for her and she barely managed to make it to the meeting spot. "Ack! Bleh!" she spat as she plopped down on a random spot. "I made it." she huffed. She shivered but pretended that the weather wasn't affecting her, like the tough future warrior she was. She was a RiverClan cat for StarClan's sake! She was practically made for this weather! Now, only if said weather wasn't so keen on blinding her...

Perchstar couldn't stop her whiskers from twitching when the young kit emerged from the nursery, fighting back the water droplets as if they were her fiercest enemy. She had determination, that was for sure. Hopefully that energy would be harnessed and she would grow into a strong apprentice, and a strong warrior. RiverClan needed as many able paws as it could get by the time that leaf-bare arrived. "Rushingkit," she spoke over the sound of the rain, "you have reached the age of six moons and you are ready to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Rushingpaw." After a moment of consideration, she leapt gracefully down from the Willow Branch, falling just like the rain that pelted the sand. Her paws splashed in a puddle as she landed. "I will be your mentor. I will do my best to pass all my knowledge on to you." The leader bent down and carefully touched her nose to Rushingpaw's. Her light blue eyes met the apprentice's gaze. There was a spark in her that Perchstar appreciated. And besides... she could use even more work to take her mind off of things. What better to do than train one of the Clan's many apprentices? "Training begins tomorrow."

◐ Rushing's eyes lit up as bright as the stars that came out at night. This was her ceremony?? Not even the stormy weather was going to dampen her big day! She grinned widely and stepped up with her head held high. Her sparkling blue eyes stared at the leader expectantly. She refrained from jumping for joy but settled with rolling on her paws instead. A whole new world of possibilities had opened up for her. She had so much to explore and so much to learn about. Think of how much prey she can catch! Think of how many enemies she could vanquish! She could one day be someone famous in her cla- no, in all the clans! Territory, here she comes!

The newly-made apprentice nearly squealed for joy when her mentor was revealed. Perchstar?? This was it! She was going to make it big! A star-struck expression was on her face. She stood as tall as she could, pride clear in her eyes when the leader bent down to touch their noses as per tradition. "You bet I'll be ready! You can count on me!" She gave Perchstar a shining smile before sauntering away to go and introduce herself to the other apprentices. They needed to know who their cool new den-mate was. She also needed to go and pick out a good nest. It had to be perfect for her! She needed to have the best sleep for the next day so she could impress Perchstar while in tip-top shape. Can't look good or be good if ya ain't feeling good.
