Swirlpaw's Hunting Training

Sprucebark awoke early in the morning and began his morning routine of straightening out his nest, grooming down his fur to be all neat and tidy and doing some stretches to fully wake up. He was a very orderly cat and liked things neat, on time and proper.

He yawned a little as he went to the apprentice den to begin his first day with Swirlpaw.  He was very excited to train an apprentice and hoped he would do a good job of explaining things to her. He poked his head into the apprentice den looking around for her. Spotting her he gently nudged her awaken.

"Hey, good morning are you ready to learn some hunting?" he purred eagerly.

He grinned and flicked his tail for her to follow after him as he lead the way out into the forest out of camp.



"I will show you the river and the best spots to find a fish" he promised. "The fishes like the morning and evening time best so thats why we go so early" he explained as he showed her around the territory on their way to the river.

Once they got to the river, he sat beside the river on the cool rocks.  "alright, so make sure that you have a steady grip on the rocks they can be a little slippery. Once you do, you just have to be patient... sooner or later you will see a dark spot in the water as a fish passes and you will scoop down and catch em out and pull them up onto the land" he explained to her... he hoped he made that make sense.

"here ill try and show you one" he purred as he sat patiently by the water for a chance to get one.

To his luck, a fish soon came along and he was able to snatch it up hooking his claws in and dragging it up and out of the water to put beside them both.

"There, kinda like that" he purred happily with a grin "here, you try" he said moving over so she could get the good spot up on the rock next to the river. He moved a little downstream and kept a close eye on his apprentice in case any trouble came along.

The morning might of been early, but Swirlpaw was still excited to go out with her new mentor, and learn how to be a warrior. Eagerly she followed Sprucebark out of the camp, to down by the river where he showed her how to catch a fish, flopping it onto the riverbank like it was no big deal.

Then it was her turn. She balanced onto the rock, not letting her shadow fall over the water. When the next fish came along, she stuck her paw into the water and awkwardly levered it onto the riverbank. "I did it!" Swirlpaw cheered.

Sprucebark watched his apprentice carefully and silently to allow her to focus. When she caught the fish his eyes widened and he cheered happily.

"Yes! You did it!" he purred so happy and ran to her side and congratulated her so warmly.

"You are an amazing apprentice and you are learning so much so quickly, riverclan is gonna be well fed with us working as a team he sat back down next to her and kept looking for fish that they could gather to help their clan


"You are an amazing fisher and you learn so quickly! A true natural at this!" he praised as he looked at how nice a fish she had caught.



(OOC: if you want, we could have sprucebark and Swirlpaw fight off an easy predator so that you can also get your fighing requirment in. We could also do this in a sepearte topic if you would rather :D

if you want to, you can summon a predator from the hunting list they can work together to beat it)

Swirlpaw beamed at the praise bestowed on her by her mentor, then turned back to the river to exersice her new fishing skills.

She waited at the bank, paw poised over the water, looking and watching for the right fish to swim past. Quick as a flash, she dipped her paw into the water and flipped out another fish; not as big as the last one but still a good size.

(Yes I would like them to fight a predator together: gotta get the reqs in while you can! Your choice if it's this topic or a new one. Also, the weakest riverclan predator is a weasel. )

Sprucebark purred happily seeing his apprentice catch another fish!

"You're amazing at this!" he encouraged again. She really was a super fast learner.

Sprucebark's ears twitched uneasily as he heard a low growl come from behind them. He whirled around and out of the corner of his eye he saw a very agressive and mean looking weasel. It was staring at the fish too wanting to steal it from them and take it for itself, it must have heard them and smelt the fishes.

Sprucebark remembered back to when he was an apprentice and weasles attacked him... Luckily, he was much more experience now, he would not let this predator hurt his apprentice!

"Swirlpaw, stay close. " he warned sternly as he put himself between his apprentice and the angry predator.

He had wanted to show Swirlpaw some fighting as well... but this was a bit more into the deep end than he would have liked to show her first time but every opportunity was a chance to learn.

"alright, its focused on me, after I attack it, see if you can claw its side. With any luck we can scare it off"

He circled the opponent locked eyes with it.

The weasel growled and made the first move:

It ran at Sprucebark and bit his front paw holding on tight.

Weasel uses Gribbing bite for 7 dmg and 15 sp

Sprucebark tried to shake his paw free but the thing was good at hanging on. A little blood dripped from his paw but luckily it was nothing super serious.

Hissing he flexed his claws and raked it along the weasels face trying to get it off and to go away.

Sprucebark uses Front paw strike! for 8 dmg and 7 sp

Weasel:
12 HP [-8] / 120 [-15] SP

Seemingly out of nowhere, a weasel sprung, biting down onto Sprucebark's front paw. She listened to her mentors instructions, then sprang at the weasel's hind leg, snapping at it.

Swirlpaw used Snap for 6 damage and costing 7 stamina

Sprucebark:
43 HP / 113 SP

Weasel:
6 HP [-6] / 120 SP

Swirlpaw:
20 HP/ 53[-7] Sp

His apprentice moved in at the perfect time and there was little the weasel could do at this point. Sprucebark lashed out again at the weasel and smacked it hard again. The weasel fell to the ground knocked out cold.

Sprucebark used front paw strike. Weasel is out of the fight

Sprucebark spun quickly to his apprentice and looked her over worriedly sniffing a bit at her concerned.

"Did it get you at all?" he asked. He was so nervous, this was his first time training his apprentice and they had gotten attacked...

He breathed a bit relived seeing that she looked to be just fine. He was just overly worried since he was responsible for keeping her safe and well.

Swirlpaw nodded. "I'm ok," she replied to her mentor. Remembering how the weasel had bit Sprucebark's paw, she added " Even if it doesn't look bad, you should probably show that paw to Dovesight or Sandypaw. "

Sprucebark breathed another sigh of relive when his apprentice confirmed that she was all good.  He grinned at her happily.  "Im so glad you are alright, Im supposed to look out for ya and I would feel terrible if you got hurt at all. he purred.  "ya did great hunting and you were also very good in the fight, you kept calm and did the right thing.  I couldnt be more proud of you he praised her vry happy with how she had handled everything being thrown at her.

He looked to his paw and nodded in agreement.  "yeah good thinking! Sandy will not be happy about be getting hurt all the time... hehe, sandy is my sister, she worries too much about me, but shes amazing. Oh yeah and Dovesight is my aunt she is super awesome as well, they make a great pair" he said as he walked with Swirlpaw back towards camp.

"Oh sandy, Dove!? he called out as they got close enough that the med cats could hear him

Sprucebark shook his head a little "no it was a weasel again actually" he explained to his aunt.

"but my brave apprentice helped me alot" he purred complementing swirlpaw.

"it doesnt even hurt that much I will be okay Dove" he purred not wanting her to stress over him.
