Birdchaser
Birdchaser sat below the Tallbranch, her tail flicking idly with thought. She had put a great deal of consideration into this ceremony– maybe more than she did with most, she was a bit reluctant to admit. While she always tried to make the best mentor-apprentice pairs that she could, it was hard when she didn't always know the kits. She was fond of Crookedkit, and had watched him grow up alongside Rainkit. Her paws itches with lingering nerves over her choice in mentors, but she quietly assured herself all would be well.
With a breath, she bunched her muscles and leaped atop the Tallbranch. For a moment Birdchaser just swayed there before finally raising her voice to yowl, "Let all cats old enough to climb the trees, gather below the Tallbranch for a Clan meeting!"

Crookedkit
Crookedkit knew that he was six moons old. His mother had told him as such. He’d spent the last week excitedly whispering to Rainkit about how he was going to become an apprentice and that he would get special privileges and get a mentor and learn new things and catch prey and help the clan!! He also promised Rainkit that he would get apprenticed too, and that they could stay in the apprentice den together.
And now…Birdchaser was calling a meeting.
He was vibrating in his pelt and whispered to Rainkit to come with him to see the ceremony. He darted out of the nursery and came to settle on the edge of the gathering crowd. He was certain that this was his ceremony, and he couldn’t keep the huge grin off his face. As a result.

As she expected, Crookedkit appeared instantly, streaking out of the nursery to sit shivering on the edge crowd. A little huff left Birdchaser as she watched him, his grin as big as ever. His mother must have been filling his head with all sorts of ideas about how he was approaching his ceremony, and it would be any day now. She couldn't say she didn't share his excitement, at least a little. She liked Crookedkit, and was eager to watch him grow.
Eyes still focused on him, she carried on, "Crookedkit, step forward." She allowed him a beat to do so, then went on, "You have reached the age of six moons, and so it's time for you to become an apprentice. From this day until you earn your warrior name, your mentor will be Blackbear. I trust she will teach you well." Birdchaser let the emphasis ring through her words, and her gaze was stony when she found her former-apprentice's face in the crowd. Though she wanted to, she would not interrupt their first meeting as mentor-apprentice to give Blackbear stern words. Instead, she only leaped off the Tallbranch to join the crowd in congratulating the new apprentice.

Blackbear didn't usually bother with these ceremonies. They were literally always the same and she didn't give a rat's tail about some kit or other becoming an apprentice. But Birdchaser told her to be at this one. She couldn't fathom why. But she couldn't question the deputy's orders, so here she sat with a mildly irritated look on her face.
She knew Crookedkit, at least. If she had to sit through some stranger's ceremony she might just tear her ears off in boredom. She watched him approach the Tallbranch, a stupid smile on his face. He smiled a lot. Maybe it was a kit thing. It was... oddly endearing, especially with the tooth jutting out of his mouth. He looked even more excited as Birdchaser called his name, said some boring ceremonial words... and looked squarely at Blackbear.
Wait, what? Blackbear stared blankly back for a moment. She was Crookedkit's mentor?? She looked at the now-apprentice and back at Birdchaser, momentarily frozen. Foxdung, she didn't watch these ceremonies. What was she supposed to do now? Maybe approach him? What had she done at her ceremony, again?
She walked up to Crookedpaw. She had a vague memory of touching noses with Birdchaser as an apprentice, so she supposed she'd go with that. She lowered her big head, briefly pressing her nose against Crookedpaw's. "Uh, congrats." She meowed gruffly.

Yes, yes, yes! It was his! It was Crookedkit’s ceremony. He sprang to his feet and stepped forward when Birdchaser began the ceremony. He raised and lowered on eager little toes and held his head high. His mentor, his mentor, his mentor was going to be…
Blackbear!!
Crookedpaw’s eyes widened and he quickly searched the crowd until he spotted Blackbear. She was the warrior that Crookedpaw had spent the most time around, and it excited him to think that he would be learning from someone who clearly had so much experience being a very capable warrior. He preened and stood up tall so his nose touched with Blackbear’s.
“Thank you!!” Crookedpaw meowed. He was bigger now that he was six months, but he was still utterly dwarfed by Blackbear. “I look forward to learning from you!” It did not even occur to him to think about the tone that Birdchaser used when calling up Blackbear; he was just too excited.
