| Content warning: this ain’t pretty…
Snowfoot shuffled her paws a little as she tracked her quarry, nose to the ground. She’d been following a scent trail through the marsh for quite a while now, and as the smell grew stronger she knew she was nearly there. She’d chosen a fox for her rite, to represent the ferocity with which she’d fight for her kits and her clan. Finally, a breeze wafted her way and told the warrior her mark was just ahead. Good. She was downwind. Silently, each paw expertly placed, the warrior crept up behind her prey. Springing into the air, she landed exactly where she wanted, on the animal’s rump. With a thrust of her back legs, she pushed it muzzle-first into the mud. Snowfoot landed on her feet, and the fox whipped around to take a snap at her. Pain blinded the warrior momentarily as a chunk of her left ear was removed.
Shaking it off, the she-cat moved as if she planned to dove for the fox’s belly, only to grab it by the tail instead, Pulling hard, she brought it right back onto the ground. Before it had time to react, she dug her claws into its rump. The fox shook Snowfoot loose and bit down on the nearest leg, which happened to be the same one she kept injuring.
Snowfoot knew now that it was all or nothing. Gritting her teeth, she threw herself underneath the fox for real, only to find herself not attacking and simply under a fox. With a paw on her neck. Oh no. The fox lashed out at Snowfoot’s face and blood filled her vision. Then it picked her up by the neck and shook her. The fox let up its grip mid-shake and the warrior flew through the air, landing hard with her head against a boulder. She heard a pained cry, seeming to be half the forest away. An excruciatingly high-pitched noise reverberated through her skull, and felt as though she had taken a dive off the edge of the Gorge. Her stomach twisted, spun, flipped, and finally emptied just before she lost consciousness.
Snowfoot is not dead, but she’s certainly out cold! Expect a medicine den topic when she wakes up. |
