Subject: Stoatpaw's Moonstone Journey Wed 5 Oct 2022 - 6:17
Birdchaser
Birdchaser wasn't sure why her siblings or Briarstar had been unable to lead the latest apprentice to the Moonstone, but there was hardly any use in complaining about it. Really, she'd only wanted to complain because she feared they might get lost on their way to Highstones. She'd only been once, afterall-- twice, if you counted the journey home --and instincts could only get her so far. But complaining would ultimately get her nowhere, and she wasn't going to let him just sit and stare at den walls all day. Haloed by the early light of dawn, Birdchaser padded into the apprentice's den with a bundle of herbs between her teeth. Finding Stoatpaw, she dropped the bundle at his paws and gave him a brisk nudge. "Wake up. We're going to Highstones today." That was all she said before backing out of the den.
.....
By the time they'd arrived at Mothermouth, night had fallen, the moon high in the star-patterned sky. Birdchaser allowed Stoatpaw a beat to climb up the rocks behind her and catch his breath, using that moment to nod towards the looming cavern ahead of them. Admittedly... it scared her a little in there. "If I remember correctly, it's dark in there, and tight in spaces. Be careful, use your whiskers, and follow me. When we reach the Moonstone, you're going to lay down beside it and touch your nose it. You're going to sleep, and someone in StarClan will find you." She hoped that was a sufficient enough explanation. Nodding to beckon him further forward, the deputy disappeared into the tunnels, padding through their dark and dense curves until the Moonstone's light spilled out before them. It was as dazzling as she'd remembered it being as an apprentice, but she didn't find herself one to admire the scenery anymore. Giving Stoatpaw one last silent nod, she settled down in a corner of the broad cavern to try and catch her own sleep.

The nudge rocked Stoatpaw from a deep sleep, startling him awake. He barely had time to register what was being said before the blurry cat in front of him left. Blinking sleep from his eyes, he noticed the small bundle that had been left for him. Oh. Stoatpaw gulped down the herbs quickly, nearly gagging them up in the process, before joining Birdchaser outside.
He would have liked to enjoy the journey, take in the sights on the way. Birdchaser's pace hadn't allowed for that, however. She almost seemed to forget that he was there at times, leaving him far behind before realized she was his escort. By the time they had made it to Mothermouth, Stoatpaw was ready to collapse. Birdchaser's mention of sleep kept him on his paws. He was so close to a deputy sanctioned rest. He followed after his deputy, using his whiskers to guide him along the path as she had instructed. The tunnels seemed to wind on forever before a light appeared. The Moonstone sat before him, and for a moment he couldn't help admiring its beauty. Padding up to it, the apprentice lowered himself to the ground, touching his nose to the stone before closing his eyes.

Sitting alongside her friends and family, Tulipfang's white and ginger pelt shimmered among the stars. Death was never a good thing per say, but being able to be reunited with her father, grandfather, and other friends and family made it all worth it to the former ShadowClan she-cat. Alive or not, StarClan was a truly wonderful place and she found herself enjoying it probably more than most cats.
Noticing a shape begin to appear not far away from where they all laid sharing-tongues under a large oak tree near the top of a hill, Tulipfang focused her gaze on what seemed to be an apprentice. The young tom's pelt didn't shimmer with sparkling stars like those of deceased cats, which meant he was probably just visiting. Standing up, she gave her fluffy pelt a shake, sending specks of stardust falling back onto the misty ground. "I'll be right back!" she purred before bounding off towards the stranger.
"Hello there!" Tulipfang called out as she ran gracefully through the grass. "Here for your Moonstone journey?" she asked, slowing her pace and stopping in front of the tom. She assumed that was what the younger cat was there for, but it didn't hurt to ask.

When he opened his eyes, Stoatpaw was met with a gorgeous sight. The stars hanging above him looked so vibrant and beautiful, shining more here than they did back home. The real beauty however, was the hill and accompanying oak tree. It hosted a bevy of cats, all shining from the stars that mingled in their pelts. "This is Starclan?" His words were breathless, the sheer beauty of this place already enamoring him. He took a step forward, and as he did, a cat broke from the group. When she stood in front of him, Stoatpaw dipped his head respectfully. "Uh, yes ma'am. I'm Stoatpaw of Skyclan." His eyes wandered from her, staring at the oak atop the hill. He wanted nothing more than to climb to the top of it and look out over the rest of Starclan. He could only dream of such a sight, though one day he knew he wouldn't have to.
