Dayquill
Energy buzzed through Dayquill's body as he stood at the slope looking down over Fourtrees. Blazefang had agreed to meet with him again, and as the sun started to sink, painting the sky rich shades of orange and red that blended in perfectly with the leaves, he couldn't help but think of her. Actually, most things made him think of her-- a particularly plump mouse he wished he could share with her, the leaves changing into fiery shades that almost matched her pelt, warm mornings that could have been spent sunning together... The tom shook himself out. A part of him was determined to keep insisting she was only a good friend; a much more stubborn part of him had already decided that she was much more than that. Fragments of sentences floated through his mind, different ways to ask her... but he kept just biting his tongue. Maybe he'd feel braver when she was actually there... but historically, that wouldn't be the case. With a steeling breath and one last look towards the setting sun, Dayquill padded down the familiar decline and found himself settling near the Great Rock to wait.

Blazefang ran towards Fourtrees, paws flying over the moor. The sunset was stunning that evening, but Blazefang’s mind was on other matters. Dayquill. She once almost called him her mate while talking to herself a few days ago (luckily nobody was within earshot), and the thought still followed her around of how… right that felt. Even though in her head she knew she was breaking the Warrior Code multiple times over, her heart didn’t care. Belly twisting with anticipation (and confusion? Did he feel this way too?), the ginger entered Fourtrees. “Hey Dayquill,” she purred. “Lovely out tonight, isn’t it?” Her confident tone surprised even herself, she felt anything but.

He wasn’t kept waiting terribly long, as Blazefang came sprinting into Fourtrees not long after Dayquill settled onto his haunches to wait. She was timely as always, he thought warmly. Beaming, the golden tom purred out, ”Hi, Blazefang. It’s, uh, really good to see you again.” He couldn’t help the smile that had immediately grown over his features at the sight of her. It was big and goofy and it strained the corners of his mouth a touch, he could feel it, but he really couldn’t hold it back at all. ”It really is nice.” His blue eyes trailed skywards, and Dayquill found himself inching slowly to Blazefang’s side. He almost dropped some trite line about it being made better now that she was here, but the almost-sentence brought another thought to mind. Another thought that brooked a good question, one he ought to ask before he got too cozy in the warm feelings bubbling in his chest. ”Say, you don’t happen to, you know, have anyone in WindClan you could be spending a night like this with, do you? It’s just… well, it’s sort of… you know, romantic. Kind of. In a way, yeah?”

That certainly caught Blazefang’s attention. “Um, yeah, it is romantic. Wait, someone else?” Did he have someone else in mind too, was this his way of letting her down easy? Heart pounding, Blazefang forced out an answer. “Um… no. I mean, I had a sort-of boyfriend a long time ago, but he disappeared when we were still apprentices. Nobody since then though. Do you? In ThunderClan, I mean, obviously I’m not trying to imply you’re seeing one of my clanmates, haha.”
