A Hunting We Will Go [Daypaw and Asterpaw]

Crimsonflame led his two apprentices through the territory. Although it was his first time out with Asterpaw, he realized he also never hunted with Daypaw either. So it was a no brainer that he would do that with them now.

Stopping, he sniffed the air. This seemed like a good spot to start, so he turned around to face the younger cats. "Alright, then, I want you two to watch me. I am going to show you how to hunt, and then we will have a competition to see who can bring back more prey, so make sure you pay close attention. We'll start on the ground, and then when you are ready we can move to the trees."

Turning around, Crimsonflame made his way toward the first piece of prey he could find: a starling. Motioning for Daypaw and Asterpaw to get low, he got into a hunter crouch, making his way forward.

Crawling forward, Crimsonflame waited for the perfect moment. The starling, scavenging through the soil for food, had no idea what was coming until it was already in his jaws. He quickly buried the prey before turning back to the apprentices.

"Alright then, your turn. I will be watching you both, and will help where needed, so don't go too far."

And with that, he sat and waited.

Although he didn't look it, Asterpaw was filled to the brim with excitement as he walked alongside Daypaw through Skyclan territory. Eyes darting everywhere but in front of him, he observed the landscape around them and the vegetation that grew within. It was something that he'd only seen once before, but his mind was too busy with much heavier subjects. Now, though, he was able to freely enjoy the beauty of the clan he'd been accepted into.

Asterpaw was so invested in observing the landscape, in fact, that he nearly ran into Crimsonflame when he finally turned to face them. With widened eyes he regained his composure, looking up to his father with curiosity. A competition? Surely Daypaw would win, he'd been an apprentice longer. Maybe he'd get a good enough idea of how to hunt from Crimsonflame's example so he could give Daypaw a mild challenge... Maybe.

Eyes following Crimsonflame, he watched as he crept up on and caught a bird with what seemed like mere ease. Geez, he hoped he could do something like that. There was only one way to see, he supposed.

With Crimsonflame's words of confirmation, Asterpaw quickly turned to his peer. "Um, good luck, Daypaw," he muttered. Standing up, he walked into the trees, being sure to stay in the general area. Out of the many scents of prey, one soon stood out to him, much stronger and more pungent. Scanning his surroundings, he found a bird, sorta similar to the one Crimsonflame had caught.

Lowering himself to a slow crawl, he pictured his father in his mind, trying his best to copy the movements he imagined. Judging the distance the best he could, he leaped as far as his legs would propel him, and out of what he could only describe as sheer luck, managed to capture the bird between his paws- not without some kind of mishap, though. Forgetting that he actually had to do more than pin down the bird, he now had a screaming bird trapped under his paws. "AHHH!" He screamed back at the bird, panicking but unable to move- he didn't want to lose it. A sudden, brilliant realization hit him, and he leaned down and closed his jaws around the bird, ending it's screams.

This was exhausting already.
