Thunderclan Camp

Comfreyheart stood at the entrance,
her apprentice and a couple other clanmates by her side. She would be leading a hunting patrol this evening- her third hunting trip this day. The molly hadn’t wanted to rest, determined to give her clan enough food for the coming leaf-bare. “Hunting patrol heading out, extra paws are welcome!” she called to the camp, searching for any warriors or apprentices who weren’t busy. More patrol mates were always a bonus to the social she-cat.

Comfreyheart glanced at her apprentice, Twilightpaw. “We’ll be leaving in a moment here, don’t worry. Feeling ready?” she asked, offering conversation to the tom.

Darkspirit heard the call by his sister. Comfreyheart... she really had been there for him so much hadn't she? Even when he didn't deserve it. He'd been a moody, antisocial tom, but it never mattered to her. As much as he disliked company outside of his siblings, he would force himself to go hunting today with other clanmates rather than alone. The truth was that he hated hearing his own name, though he'd never show it. He had to wonder how fooled his siblings were though, Comfreyheart especially.

"I'll go with you." He told her softly, though he visibly, slightly bristled at the approach of other clanmates. They were going to say his name, weren't they? Darkspirit... Stoatstar had been unreasonably cruel to have given him such a name after the service he'd done for Thunderclan. He wanted this hunt to start. He wanted this over.

❒ Briarpaw's ears perked up hearing Comfreyheart's voice from the camp's entrance. A hunting patrol? She quite liked hunting. With her mind made up, the young tortie molly made her way over to the she-cat, her brother, Twilightpaw, and an unfamiliar-familiar tom that had decided to join as well. She couldn't quite remember that tom's name. Well, she hadn't interacted with him before so that was most likely why. Maybe she could get to know him today.

❒ "I will go," she said as she arrived at the gathering point. She smiled warmly at Twilightpaw. She then gave Comfreyheart a polite nod and finally turned to look at the older tom. "Hello. We have not really spoken to each other. My name is Briarpaw. I apologize for not knowing this before but what is your name?" She offered the tom a gentle smile. Hopefully, he didn't mind her not knowing such information.

"Mind if I join you?" Eveningmoon mewed as he limped over, flashing a grin towards Twilightpaw and Briarpaw and bumping Comfreyheart with his shoulder affectionately.

He flicked his tail playfully at Darkspirit, canting his head towards him. "Why the long face, huh?" Shifting closer, he lowered his voice to a whisper only his brother could hear. "You alright, Dark? What's up?" Darkspirit didn't normally look that gloomy.

Briarpaw asked a question, and the black tom flicked an ear in response. "No worries, Briarpaw, there's a lot of warriors around. I'm Eveningmoon, that's my sister Comfreyheart and my brother Darkspirit."

Stony Hollow

She was thrilled to see so many cats come up to join,
and especially pleased to see her brothers. She returned each of their greetings with a strong purr before politely dipping her head to Briarpaw. The apprentice had asked Darkspirit’s name, but before she could say anything Eveningmoon had already answered. “Yeah well, names don’t really matter right? You can just call this guy Sir Prettypelt, I bet you he’ll respond,” she joked, brushing her tail across Darkspirit’s back for support. She remembered how awful the tom had felt when he was given his warrior name, it was something she could never forgive Stoatstar for. In the meantime she tried to give the tom silly nicknames to avoid him hearing it.

Comfreyheart thanked the three for joining her patrol before turning to the other warriors, checking that they were ready. Once they were, she decided to begin the patrol. “Alright everyone, time to go!” she told her clanmates before leading them out of camp. The molly padded eagerly, confident that with this many warriors they were sure to catch plenty of prey. She lead them to the Stony Hollow, where she knew was a bountiful spot for food.

And though filled with prey, the broken drain pipe presented a hazard for unsupervised apprentices. “Stay away from that area when hunting please, its highly dangerous and I wouldn’t want you to get hurt. Yowl if you come across anything, we’ll all come running,” she gently instructed the apprentices present.

With that Comfreyheart began her hunt, already catching the scent of shrew. My favorite! She kept low, stalking in its direction. Soon enough she could pinpoint the prey, quickly darting to where it stood and easily catching it under her paw. She then brought it back to where the patrol had initially dispersed, beginning a fresh-kill pile there.

...... Of course the apprentice had to ask him his name. He hesitated, for just a moment thinking he could tell her something different. Of course not though... She'd figure it out pretty quick. Eveningmoon both thankfully and not thankfully introduced him, so that settled that. At the mention of being called "Sir Prettypelt" Darkspirit stared at Comfreyheart, horrified. He made some sort of noise with his mouth in protest that were supposed to be words... but that wasn't what they turned out to be.

Giving up, he merely lowered his head and tail and went to sulking as he followed the patrol. Be more social... be more social... Except... he didn't really know how to do that. He'd spent a lot of his critical socializing period away from the clan... an angry shadow that served to only bring everyone food. It was no wonder some cats in his clan didn't know his name.

At the sight of a squirrel, Darkspirit took an opportunity to get away from the rest of the patrol. He was already failing at this socializing thing... but did it matter if he brought back food? He kicked hard off of the ground, leaping fairly high as the squirrel scrambled to get up the tree trunk in time. He wasn't aware of it, but his jump was a throwback to his Skyclan heritage.

Darkspirit attempted to catch a squirrel. He was [SUCCESSFUL] -1SP

His Skyclan blood had not failed him, easily swiping the squirrel from the tree and bringing it back to earth. He swiftly dispatched it and carried it back to the patrol. He'd bury it in a moment when it was his turn to hunt again. He'd lost a few prey items to other predators that found his hiding spots before and he wasn't eager to give them an opportunity to do that again.
