Poppyshine
Irispaw continued to surprise her. She looked like she was ready to fall over and take a nap, but she still wanted to give hunting a try? Poppyshine supposed that it wouldn’t hurt. If she succeeded, then that would serve as an inspiration and motivation for Irispaw going forward. If she failed, then that would show the importance of resting before hunting and motivate her for the next time they went out.
“Alright,” Poppyshine finally purred. “We’ll give it one shot, but then we should go back and let you get rest. You’re still a new apprentice, and all of this can be quite tiring on your young body. You don’t want to overdo it.”
She pointed her nose further into the forest. “We’ll start walking that way. You’ll want to keep taking deep breaths and smelling as best you can. You’ve had a little bit of prey while in the camp, so I’m sure you know what at least some of them smell like, even if you can’t differentiate their scents quiet yet. When you smell one, lock onto it and approach carefully. Some prey will require different approaches, like a swift approach for a bird and a slow, careful approach for a mouse.” Poppyshine began walking to guide Irispaw to a better place to try her paw at hunting. “The next time we go out, I’ll show you the river and how we catch our fish. But it’s still important to know how to catch other prey.”
Poppyshine held back once they got a little further into the forest. She wanted Irispaw to try on her own and get the unfiltered experience before they headed back.
