And Chaos Ensues [Nightpaw]

Roseburn was glad that Nightpaw agreed to a hunt with her. As rough as their conversation had started out, it was a shock at how quickly things seemed to smoothen. Like they were natural friends or something. Grinning at Nightpaw, Roseburn decided to start things off.

"So, you ThunderClan cats got any tricks you can show me? I have a feeling you can hunt here a lot better than I can. I swear I trip over everything here!" An innocent statement in itself. She was honestly curious to see Nightpaw's abilities. After all, if she really did spend so much time perfecting her skills (although she wasn't going to bring that line up, that could have easily been boosting her ego like Roseburn had been doing), she should at least be able to hunt better than Roseburn could. She could hardly even walk here!

Nightpaw hummed, considering the question. Since the end of their conversation, Roseburn had been offering her good faith, and it would be remiss of her not to return it- and, admittedly, she still felt guilt over her own earlier words. Apologizing again was out of the question, so she could only offer kindness. "The awareness of every twig around you might be learned, but I'm not sure I can teach it- I'm fairly certain it's something that comes with practice. Looking around to make sure you've got a clear space might help? Or at least knowing exactly what it is that's in your way."

She paused to scent the air, stalking silently through the undergrowth with practiced precision. Squirrels weren't exactly a challenging catch (at least, once you accounted for their speed at scurrying up trees and back into their hiding-holes), but they were a favorite of hers.

Moving swiftly but precisely was the important thing when it came to catching squirrels, and those were quite possibly her best skills. She caught it between her paws by the bushy tail as it started up the tree, pinning it down and killing it quickly with a quiet prayer.

"Nice catch!"

Okay, so Nightpaw definitely had some abilities to show for her perfectionism she had boasted. Maybe a bit of competitiveness sparked in Roseburn in that moment. Maybe she was still feeling a little petty, despite them having made up. Whatever it was, that was what Roseburn was going to blame for what came next.

If Nightpaw asked, Roseburn would claim that she didn't notice the other prey that might have been around. Her senses were still a little fogged up after the flood. It just so happened that what she did find, what she had been looking for, was a squirrel.

Her hunt was a lot clumsier than that of Nightpaw's though, as infuriating as that was. She had almost reached the squirrel, when she ended up stepping on a twig. The squirrel darted off, and so did Roseburn. If it wasn't for her close proximity, she would have never made the catch, but her momentum was able to carry her up the tree enough to snatch the squirrel's tail, and she killed it immediately after she fell back to the ground.

Certainly not the best hunt, but at least she made the catch, and she held her head up high to show it off.

"You're not too bad yourself," Nightpaw admitted, half-praise and half-teasing at Roseburn's catch. She wanted to try showing off herself, something that would look decently impressive even if she failed- and she spotted her chance when she spotted a rabbit. So long as she was careful and didn't give it a chance to swipe back at her, even if she didn't catch it she was confident that she could at least make the attempt look cool.

Besides that, rabbits were huge, and one would feed several cats for the day- an ever-present necessity when the clan was sheltering guests.

She fell into a practiced hunter's crouch, keeping downwind from the prey as she made a swift and steady approach. Speed was the main thing a rabbit had over her, after all- she was fast, but not that fast. Once she thought she was close enough to make it, she pounced...

And, miraculously, made the catch.

"I've got you now!"

Roseburn smirked, maybe a little cocky after being praised. This was actually a little fun. Nightpaw was clearly showing off going after a rabbit, and the warrior snorted.

"Alright, alright. Going for the tough ones are we? I think we're both thinking it, so I am just gonna say it, why don't we see who can bring back more prey? A nice competition for fun. Winner gets bragging rights."

And of course that would be her.

Her devilish grin returned, being a lot more like when she was an apprentice. And Roseburn couldn't complain.

Well, what was a more impressive catch than a rabbit? A hare. So that was what Roseburn was going to look for.

And boy did she find one.

Maybe that was too bold of an attempt, though. Long story short, the hare was gone, and Roseburn had her face in the dirt.

"A little bit of competition never hurt anyone," Nightpaw purred in response- shortly followed by laughter. "Well... Nice try," she said, only half teasing. Hares were incredibly difficult to catch, after all. "Now, watch the master at her work!"

There was a bird on one of the lower branches of a nearby tree, clearly preparing to take flight. She'd tried and failed this before, but her successes had her feeling confident that she could make the catch. She leapt up as it took off, but- just as before- she caught only a clawful of its feathers.

"...Entirely as intended," she declared, placing the feathers delicately with her previous catches. "If this is a competition, I'm still ahead anyway."

Nice recovery, she thought to herself.
