Poppyshine

Since the clan meeting established new hunting rules to keep RiverClan safe, Poppyshine was out with another warrior—though, surprisingly, it was Dovesight. Dovesight had seemed confined to the medicine cat den at this point due to all of the predator attacks that kept happening, and now she was out with Poppyshine to hunt like a warrior again. She’d insisted it would be a good change of pace, and Poppyshine couldn’t necessarily argue. Poppyshine would also be losing her mind with worry all the time if she was a medicine cat in Dovesight’s stead.

“Let’s try to catch some frogs or birds while we’re out. A change of pace from fish would be good for everyone I think,” Poppyshine purred. She also did not want to go to the river—both because of her own apprehensions and because of the influx of geese and foxes in that area. Going somewhere away from the water might prove to be easier for them to avoid any trouble.

Poppyshine smiled as Dovesight moved forward. Her form seemed as good as it always had been, and Poppyshine silently cheered her on. Unfortunately, the bird sensed her approach and flew off. Poppyshine giggled as she moved over to her friend. “It looks like your time in the medicine den has dulled your sneaking skills,” she teased. “You’ll get the next one, I’m sure.”

It was her turn, though, and Poppyshine sniffed around until she caught the scent of another bird. She crept carefully towards it, trying to keep out of the full plains, before she leapt. The bird didn’t sense her, but its head did turn somewhere else and took off before Poppyshine’s claws landed on it. She huffed and looked to where it had been looking, only to see a snake waiting under some brush.

You’re kidding, she thought absently before the snake lashed out and struck her. Poppyshine hissed and lunged at the snake, aiming for its tail to slam into the ground. Her jaws slipped right past it, missing, and Poppyshine grit her teeth. She called, "Dovesight, stay back! I don't want you getting hurt!" The last thing they needed was their medicine cat also getting hurt.

Poppyshine attempted to catch a bird but a predator struck instead! -3 SP for the hunting roll.
Snake used Serpentine Strike on Poppyshine, dealing 6 damage and costing 10 SP.

Poppyshine

Poppyshine gritted her teeth and her heart hammered in her chest when Dovesight got involved. She was so worried that the snake would retaliate. But on the contrary, it seemed intimidated by the appearance of two cats, and the strike from Dovesight appeared to really hurt it. So before Poppyshine could move in to try and attack again, it slunk away, disappearing into the brush.

Poppyshine let out a shaky breath and looked back to Dovesight with a strained smile. “Thank you,” she meowed. She walked to Dovesight’s side and gave her an affectionate (and worried) lick against her cheek. “I’m lucky to have you here, it seems,” she chuckled. Her shoulder hurt a little bit from where she was bit, but it was nothing serious. Dovesight could help her treat it when they got back, but for now, they till needed to bring some prey back.

Alright. Nice and careful this time.

She turned her attention back to the territory and breathed in. She caught scent of another bird and this time she moved carefully, trying to keep an ear out for predators too. The bird was in sight and she leapt at the last moment, only barely being able to catch it in the hook of her claw. Poppyshine was quick to bite it and silence its shrill calls.

"There we are. At least one success this afternoon," Poppyshine meowed cheerfully as she dropped it onto the ground.

The snake is under half health and has fled the battle!

Poppyshine offered Dovesight a cheer when she successfully caught the vole. “Fantastic job! We’re making progress already!” She purred as she looked at their catches, but then Dovesight’s expression caught her eye. She looked to her shoulder where Dovesight was staring and then she looked back to her friend with a smile. “You’re worried and think it should get treated, huh?”

She gave a small sigh, but still smiled. “Alright. We’ll head back, then. But then I’m going to rest in the medicine den and you are going to take a break from things still, considering our outing got cut short. How does that sound?” Poppyshine bent down to pick up her bird in her jaw.
