Iriskit's Apprentice Ceremony Empty
PostSubject: Iriskit's Apprentice Ceremony   Iriskit's Apprentice Ceremony EmptyMon 22 Aug 2022 - 13:38

Poppyshine

Poppyshine was happy to see that Iriskit was finally ready to become an apprentice. She had seen the little kit grow, but circumstances had kept her from earning her apprentice name for so long. That was finally going to come to an end today, though, and Poppyshine was quite happy to see it.

She stepped up onto the willow branch and announced to the clan, “Let all cats old enough to catch their own fish gather for a Clan meeting.”

Iriskit's Apprentice Ceremony Empty
PostSubject: Re: Iriskit's Apprentice Ceremony   Iriskit's Apprentice Ceremony EmptyMon 22 Aug 2022 - 21:06

Iriskit had to fight down the urge to nearly dance in place at the announcement, near chomping at the bit. She'd seen apprentice ceremony after apprentice ceremony come and go, seen the kits that had grown up with her- her littermates- leave the nursery long before now, even kits that had been younger than she becoming apprentices so quickly. The ever impatient part of her complained, wondering why it had taken so long to be allowed an apprenticeship. And the more logical part that had slowly been building into her was perfectly aware that the impatient part was part of the reason.
She'd been caught several times before now trying to sneak out, putting herself in immense danger for no reason, a foolish behavior unbefitting of an apprentice, much less a warrior. (Or so she'd been told, about a dozen times now.)
But she'd managed to be patient this time. She was patient for so, so long that it felt like 80 moons had passed since the last time she'd tried to sneak out. Granted, that didn't stop her from trailing after every apprentice and warrior in the camp she could (when she wasn't being reluctantly dragged back to the nursery) and politely asking, repeatedly, over and over and over again, if maybe they would give her a few tips? Some suggestions? Just one or two, please?
She was quite certain that most of warriors in the clan were thoroughly sick of her pestering by now, but it had worked! She had learned a bunch of stuff from the ones that wanted her to go away, and now here she was, going into her first apprenticeship!
...Hmm. Maybe she shouldn't have pestered most every single warrior and apprentice in the clan for this stuff (except the leader and deputy and medicine cat of course, because they were Always busy and she was a Good Kit who respected her clan's leaders). Her ears folded back momentarily in worry that her the warrior she'd be apprenticed to would already be sick of her before they'd even gotten started.
Shaking her head a bit at the thought, she placed it firmly in the "problems for future Iriskit" pile that was constantly on the verge of toppling with how full it was. She would find out who her mentor was and she'd roll with it!
Her tail flicking a little bit in excitement, she raised expectant eyes to Poppyshine, eager and waiting.

Iriskit's Apprentice Ceremony Empty

Poppyshine

Poppyshine could not help but smile when she saw Iriskit’s excitement. The she-cat had so much eagerness in her veins, just as Poppyshine had when she was a kit—No, Iriskit probably had even more. She could scarcely sit still as she looked up at Poppyshine. The eagerness in her eyes was quite apparent, as was the silent plea that this ceremony be for her.

And it was.

She nodded for Iriskit to come forward and she announced, “Iriskit. You have reached your age of six moons and are ready to be apprenticed. From this day on until you receive your warrior name, you shall be known as Irispaw.” Poppyshine hesitated on her next words. She knew what she was going to say, but—there was a nervousness to it. Her last apprentice had died under her care. It was from heatstroke, but still—and there was Pipitpaw, who had disappeared so shortly after being assigned to her. Was Poppyshine cursing this young she-cat by taking her on, even if she was one of the warriors without an apprentice at the moment?

Poppyshine shook her head. She cleared her throat and continued, “Your new mentor shall be me. I will teach you all I know, and show you the ways of being a warrior.” Poppyshine stepped down and took a deep breath as she approached Irispaw and pressed her nose to the apprentice’s. “We shall train in the morning,” she whispered with a smile. Everything would be fine. It would be fine.

Iriskit's Apprentice Ceremony Empty
PostSubject: Re: Iriskit's Apprentice Ceremony   Iriskit's Apprentice Ceremony EmptySat 27 Aug 2022 - 12:00

Iriskit- no Irispaw gaped up at her Deputy- her mentor!- at that moment, looking somewhat dazed. At the feeling of Poppyshine's nose against hers, she pressed back in quickly, maybe a little too roughly in her awe. "I- thank you Poppyshine! I promise, I'll-I'll be the best apprentice ever! I won't let you down!" she stammered out, barely managing to force the words out with the warm feeling that filled her chest.

She had a chance! A real chance! She might've annoyed so many other warriors in the clan, but she'd always tried to be on her best behavior for her leaders, and it had paid off! She was blown away; she'd been fortunate enough to get the Deputy as her mentor. Not just any warrior, but The Poppyshine. She couldn't believe her luck.

She waited impatiently for the crowd to disperse for a bit before she began her little celebration, grabbing a little ball of moss in her mouth and sprinting headlong up and down the camp, silent if not for the sound of the dislodged foliage in her wake. The ball came dislodged from her mouth and she pounced at it at full speed, flipping onto her back and tearing at it with intense focus for a few moments before she let herself lay there, just breathing as she calmed down.

Irispaw. Apprentice to Poppyshine. This was the first step on her path to becoming a warrior. And she couldn't be happier.

Iriskit's Apprentice Ceremony Empty
PostSubject: Re: Iriskit's Apprentice Ceremony   Iriskit's Apprentice Ceremony EmptySat 27 Aug 2022 - 14:22

Stormdance

Stormdance had come out of the medicine den to watch the ceremony, resting outside it. He couldn’t help the big smile that appeared on his face when he heard Irispaw’s name be called. Ever since their first interaction when Stormdance was still an apprentice himself, he’d had a lot of affection towards the spunky young cat. She’d stressed him out beyond belief when he found out she too had been trying to sneak out of camp, though she never made it beyond the camp barriers, thank the stars. He shuddered to think just what would’ve happened if she had run into the fox he had encountered with Rowanpaw, or a snake like the one that took Woolypaw’s eye, or any of the other predators that had been harassing Riverclan territory.

“Irispaw! Irispaw!” Stormdance joined in the calls for Irispaw’s new name, filled with genuine enthusiasm and hope. He really, really wanted things to turn out well for Irispaw. She had so much potential, and she was such a sweet cat. Riverclan needed cats like her right now, filled with bright excitement and joy. And she and Poppyshine would be a good match as mentor and apprentice, or at least, Stormdance thought so. He hoped that Irispaw would help return some of Poppyshine’s cheer that had been so absent as of late. He could see the anxiety he had when Woolywing was first assigned to him reflected in Poppyshine, and it hurt his heart to see.

It was with amusement that he watched Irispaw run back and forth across the camp, and a chuckle rose up in his chest. When Irispaw tumbled to a stop, Stormdance called out to her. “Irispaw,” He said to catch her attention, rising up and limping the few feet over to sit down next to her. Even that little bit of movement hurt, so he winced a little as he settled down. He gently put a paw on her head as she laid on her back, giving her a warm smile as he ruffled her fur. “Congratulations,” He said, lifting his paw back up. “You’re going to do great, I know it.” Then, he put on a more serious expression and his best ‘stern mentor’ voice. “And I know you’ll be good and obey all the rules for Poppyshine, right? Riiight?” He chuckled a little bit to let the young she-cat know he was just teasing.

Mostly.
