On Sight [C]

A cool breeze ruffled Blackbear's thick pelt, offering solace from the seemingly neverending heat of Greenleaf. The tall smoke she-cat paced through SkyClan's territory, ears forward and eyes flitting around in search of a threat. Once again she was patrolling alone. She liked it that way; she didn't know or like any warriors enough to patrol with them. Thornstalker in particular was just irritating. The way she spoke to Blackbear like she was stupid made her growl to herself, a quick rumbling noise she hoped wouldn't notify any enemies of her presence.

She absent mindedly flexed her claws as she walked closer and closer to the thunderpath, the overpoweringly noxious smell making her curl her lip. Despite her disgust, she found herself curious. She'd never seen a monster before, or the Thunderpath itself. The smell was enough to turn many cats away, but her curiosity won out and she padded in the direction of the hedges surrounding the Thunderpath.

She emerged from the foliage, looking around in search of a monster. There were none to be found- but what she saw next expelled any thoughts of monsters from her mind. There, just a few foxlengths from her, was a cat. A cat that was, to Blackbear's delight, on SkyClan's side of the Thunderpath.

She bounded forward wordlessly, leaping onto the odd-eyed she-cat and pinning her to the ground with a heavy paw. "You're on SkyClan land. she half hissed, half growled.

By some miracle, Harechaser had found herself nearing some semblance of familiar territory at last. The thunderpath that bordered Shadowclan territory was familiar, and slowly she limped alongside it, staring wide-eyed at the absolute mess that was the other side. It was clear, even from the edge of the territory, that no Shadowclanner could have stayed there and survived, as if the violent floods that had swept her clanmates so far away wasn't enough of an indication.

Harechaser plodded along the side of the thunderpath slowly. Her paws were sore and her usually vibrant tortoiseshell pelt was still messy. Grooming simply hadn't seemed like as much of a priority as getting home was, and once Harechaser had recovered from the shock of waking in unknown lands, she realized that she had sustained a few gashes. From being knocked into a rock or tree maybe, she wasn't quite sure. Even now they stung, and had a weird smell to them. Her stomach growled, a reminder that she hadn't been eating well. She longed for the comfort of Basilbloom and Fuzzybelly's den, but she hadn't seen hide nor hair of either of them. Had Basilbloom, already so fragile, even made it through the storm? Had her father? And her siblings... The thought filled Harechaser with dread. She was so tired, and in so much walking she still hadn't found any of her clanmates that she'd been separated from. They must've washed up somewhere, but where? If they'd been swept away as far as she and a few others had been, then they might not even be on clan territory at all. Clan territory was all the young warrior knew however, so clan territory was where she would look.

Distracted and in her own head, Harechaser yelped as massive paws slammed into her from behind. "Foxdung!" She sputtered, twisting to catch a glimpse of a dark face framed by paler fur, "Get off of me!" Belatedly, her nose caught up with her, informing Harechaser that the she-cat was Skyclan. Hadn't her father warned her Skyclan was trouble? A jolt of fear shot down her spine at the idea of a fight. The warrior - she assumed - was much bigger than Harechaser was and Harechaser wasn't exactly in decent shape right now.

Blackbear revelled in the she-cat's reaction, scoffing a bit to herself at her inability to defend herself. Were all non-SkyClanners this weak? If it was her being pinned, she'd have ripped the attacker's throat out ages ago. It didn't hurt that Blackbear was generally bigger than any cat she'd have to fight. "Make me." she snarled, claws tugging at Harechaser's fur. She raised a paw to slash at the other she-cat, but stopped as she began to wobble. huffing, she quickly stepped off of Harechaser to ease her balance and then resumed her attack.

She drew her front leg back, claws gleaming through the knots of wooly fur covering them, and raked her claws across Harechaser's side. "If you didn't want to be attacked, you shoulda stayed off SkyClan territory."

Harechaser struggled under the heavier weight of the other she-cat, relieved when she finally slipped off of her back. That relief didn't last long however, the damage from her claws and an incoming strike to her flank making her instinctively flinch and hiss in pain. Should have stayed off Skyclan territory? That brought a growl from Harechaser. "You don't own the thunderpath, you ratheart!" She snapped, raising her own claws to slash at the silvery she-cat's chest, her shoulders... Whatever was closest.

Blackbear hissed, failing to come up with a verbal retort. She was sure she was right, anyway. This mange-pelt was so close to SkyClan territory that she was practically on their doorstep. Anyway, if there was prey on this sode of the Thunderpath, SkyClan had the right to it. So obviously that extended to enemies too.

Claws raked across her chest and shoulders, the blood mostly hidden behind her tangles of fur but the pain present. She yowled, more with anger than pain. She aimed to lash out with her claws, but then remembered that battle with the WindClanner. She'd gone for the tail. She lunged for the she-cat's plumed tail, pulling sharply as hard as she could. She tried to come up with a witty remark of some kind, but once again came up empty. She huffed to herself. Fogfeather always made it look so easy!


Blackbear used Tail Yank, dealing 7HP and costing 15SP. Harechaser is stunned for one turn.

Fangs sank into her tail, and with a snarl, Harechaser twisted, yanking herself free of the fluffy she-cat's grip. Whirling, she lunged, aiming to sink her own fangs into her opponent's shoulder in retaliation. She hadn't wanted to get into a fight, but she would defend herself from this crazed foxheart as best she could.

Blackbear's attempt to knock the scrawny cat off balance appeared to have no effect. Blackbear yowled in surprise as the she-cat pulled out of her grip, snarling. The taller cat countered with a snarl of her own. Bared fangs aimed for her shoulder and she hissed, shoving herself hard to the left to evade the bite. It was far from graceful, but at least her opponent got a mouthful of air instead of flesh.

She snapped back around to face her and bared her claws, preparing to strike. She brought her claws down, aiming for skin, but ended up with just a few tufts of fur stuck in her paw as she ultimately failed to injure the cat. "Give up and leave, I'm bigger and stronger than you." Secretly, she hoped she wouldn't. This fight, difficult as it was, was exhilerating. Fights against weak enemies were boring, and this tortoiseshell packed a punch.

The big brute managed to dodge, turning and snarling. Claws and fangs snapped at Harechaser, thankfully only catching air. "You can retreat, you're the one who started this!" Harechaser growled in response. Digging her paws into the muddy earth, the tortoiseshell was grateful for the miserable rains that made even territory that wasn't Shadowclan's muddy and wet. With a sudden, sharp flick of her paws, she aimed a sizable pawful of mud right at the she-cat's face. It would probably only enrage her further, but Harechaser didn't care. She'd have to take time to get that out of her eyes... She hoped.

Harechaser used Mud Slap for -10 sp, dealing -7 damage. Harechaser is stunned for this turn.
