Stinging Claws [C]

The Greenleaf air was warm, but pleasant. They had been lucky, it seemed; the day wasn't as muggy as it had been for the past few sunrises. Storms seemed to pass every night, bringing an uncomfortable humidity to the forest. Foxpaw was glad it had also been somewhat overcast- her long fur had done nothing to help her in the whole of the season, so a reprieve was nice.

She also couldn't help but smile a bit at what her current training would be for the day- a proper spar! The apprentice walked steadily behind the warriors who would be watching the two, small excitement bubbling under her paws. Not only from the thought of dueling, but getting to share it with a friend. The ginger tabby hadn't spent much time with Hornetpaw after she had become an apprentice; it'd be nice to catch up with the tom.

The group eventually reached a small clearing within the dense trees. Their training would begin. Turning toward Hornetpaw, Foxpaw dipped her head briefly to her sparring partner, "Ready?"

With how nice the forest smelled and looked, Hornetpaw couldn't believe his luck. Rainy nights brought him the best sleep for some reason. Birds, crickets, everything seemed so sweet after hiding from them all the time. The only thing worrying the tom was how wet the ground got. In some places, mud clung to all fur. Uncomfortable to even think about.

One good thing came out of that! It was perfect weather for sparing and training the one thing he loved the idea of. Fighting. Not looking at older cats he trotted right next to Foxpaw just enjoying the moment of silence. Cause what's better than not having to talk and vibing heartbeat their paws touched the clearing he stretched in case any injuries could come from just jumping into the training. A small smile and a big nod was the only answer he gave to the she-cats question.

The distance between them was pretty big, especially for Hornet with his small round body and short limbs. Instead of charging at Foxpaw, he slowly took a small step back, waiting just a moment before leaping at her with outstretched paws.

A small puff of surprise and discomfort came from Foxpaw; she hadn't expected for a jump to come from the other tabby. Digging her claws into the ground to mitigate any momentum, the she-cat refocused with a grin. This was a battle! A moment after Hornetpaw's attack came a small opportunity for an opening- which the large molly gladly took. Gathering her strength, the apprentice rammed all of her weight into the tabby's side; attempting to bowl over her sparring partner. Foxpaw couldn't quite reach her goal- doing little else but pushing the tom against dusty ground- but she knew it would at least be an odd attack to counter.

Foxpaw used Headbutt, dealing 4 HP at the cost of 5 SP!

With a small yelp of both victory and surprise, Hornetpaw fell as a kitten would. His brain buzzed now filling with adrenaline. Yeah? Foxpaw headbutted him? YEAH? Good, no matter how bad it was to have no stability and easily seen belly it also gave him a chance to fight back. He took a swing with his paw, claws sheathed. Praying to Starclan for enough strength to reach for his friend's face. He was at a disadvantage still and the only thing in his reach was the very tip of her nose.

A flash of surprise came over Foxpaw- she.. actually knocked over the other apprentice? As soon as the realization sunk in; Foxpaw rushed in- ready to exchange another blow toward her friend. That plan, though, quickly fell apart. Hornetpaw was fallen, but that didn't mean he couldn't bat his own blows anymore. But she had already gone too far within the tom's range. In a heartbeat, the ginger tabby swung herself to the side. Maybe she could just barely juke out the other tabby.. A quick breath of relief released from the apprentice- just barely missing her friend's rebuttal by a kitten-whisker.

Her initial idea was salvagable, now; and, perhaps, foolishly, replied with a swift sheathed hit toward the tom's underbelly. She was far closer and more open than she wanted to be- but at least she had actually managed an attack.

Foxpaw uses Dodge and Fight, mitigating Hornetpaw's previous attack. Additionally, she deals 5 HP at the cost of 7 SP!
