Softer Start [C]

Hawkheart hadn't been prepared to get an apprentice... at least one that was related to him. Then everything got complicated, he couldn't be as hard on his own daughter... could he? He had always been a bit of a rough one himself, not afraid to give his thoughts out freely. Being a parent changed that though, he wasn't about to do that to his own kin. With less grace than one would think a Windclan cat would have, the warrior trotted around apprentices before coming up on the sleeping form of his own daughter. So similar to her mother in appearance, it was almost like having deja vu. "Hey kit, get on up it's time for some training." He prodded her with his large, furry paw, and did his best to do so gently. If he did actually do so was anyone's guess. Quickly he traversed the apprentice-shaped landmines again, plopping down next to the entrance to camp.

Daisypaw had been awakened by his paw nudging. Her sleepy eyes blinked a couple times looking up at him. She quickly snapped fully awake and at attention when she saw it was dad. Daisy had always been a good kit, always did as her parents said and always tried to make them happy with her. Her brother golden paw revived a lot of attention from the clan and she wanted the same from her parents. She would do anything to make her parents proud of her and getting assigned her father as her mentor was the best thing ever in her mind.

She nodded and bounded after him listening to everything he told her. Catching up to him she stood ready at attention . What are we gonna learn today dad? the mini version of coyote asked.

She had grown alot since she was a kit getting a growth spurt . She defenetly was hawks kit and got some of his height genes. Still shorter than him by a good amount she was already bigger than most of her apprentice counterparts . With all this growing came a big appetite so food was always second on her mind (first on her mind of course was pleading her parents).

We could go hunting? she suggested her opinion bias due to that.

"Sure. That would probably be a good start to training anyway. Come on, let's get going before it gets too hot." Leading the way, the large tom lead Daisypaw out into the territory, looking for a decent place to sit and explain the basics. After some time, he found a decent place. Too far away to disturb prey, but out enough that they could easily go looking. "So, hunting. Basically, you crouch down like this." The tom demonstrated, crouching low down to the ground, close enough that his belly fur was touching. After a few heartbeats, the tom got up, looking to his daughter to do the same. "You try, and I'll fix you if you're wrong. I'll be honest this isn't the most exciting thing, but it's important."

Daisypaw was super excited to get going. She looked up to her parents Aton and getting to go hunting with dad was gonna be a highlight for sure. She watched carefully as he demonstrated an example of what to do. He then looked to her to follow suit… she got a little nervous what if she messed up and made a fool of herself in front of her hero. She tried to Minic what her mentor was doing best she could. Overall her stance was not the worst being her first time. But there were some glaring blunders, her tail and back end stuck up too high which would have given her away to any prey and her paws were heavy as she plotted along which would have made too much noise . Like this? she asked looking up at him. She looked a copy of her mother and by this point was almost as grown as coyote. Still smaller since she was just an apprentice but it was clear that by warrior good her fathers genes were defenetly there in size

(Ooc: I usually imagine windclan cats as small nimble. But hawk is this giant fellow exception so he just super taller than everyone else in the camp XD )

"You need to go lower, yeah it'll burn in your legs a bit, but you'll get used to it. It's just 'cause your legs aren't quite strong enough yet, but they will be. It comes with the territory of hunting." Hawkheart put a large paw onto his daughter's back, pushing her down slightly. "Also, lower that tail, a rabbit would spot that from fox lengths away." For a tom that didn't talk much, teaching his daughter was a strange experience, but also somewhat... rewarding? Once Daisypaw had fixed her stance to an extent, the warrior took his paw off. "Right, so now it's time to actually hunt. That stance I just taught you? Yeah, that's what you stalk prey with, low to the ground and slow. Watch your paws for any too dry grass, you don't want to make unnecessary noise. Then, when you're a few tail lengths away, you dash out and pounce. You're probably already faster than me, I'm too big to hunt like most Windclan cats, I usually have to get a bit closer than most, and you might find that's what you have to do if you grow more than you already have!" A low chuckle came from the tom as he looked at his daughter. She really did look like his mate, he wondered just how much of him she had. "Anyhow, either you can go try to hunt now, or I can demonstrate if you'd like. It's all the same to me."

Daisypaw was grateful for her father and mentors advise about fixing her stance.

Having him as her mentor was the best!  She always had been trying to impress her parents and this was the perfect opportunity to do so.  She thought about his question … hmm she thought that she was ready to try giving it a try. What better way to show him how good a potential warrior she was than to catch something right in front of him?? Hmm well there was actually something better indeed come to think of it… she had always also been very competitive and wanted to one up anyone around her .  Her siblings were often the target of her competitive nature but today why not compete with him?? Hmm yes perfect!!

I have an idea, we both go and try and catch a rabbit at the same starting time. Whoever catches it first wins! she challenged him.  If she could catch a rabbit before her old man she could float about it forever to her siblings (it probably would also impress hawk heart as well which was also a big motivator for her)

Without really waiting for his reply she smirked a little bit ready set go! she meowed beginning her hunt.


(Ooc: ok so here is my idea.   Roll 2 hunting dice.  This first one will indicate how quickly your character did the hunt (higher the faster they did it). The second will be your actual hunting dice for it like if you caught it or not.)


After a little searching she spotted a rabbit and stalked toward it doing just as her father had told her… he was right her legs did burn from keeping so low to the ground but she wasn’t about to let him catch one faster.


Uses 3 sp to try catch rabbit


She caught it with ease killing it with a quick bite to neck. It felt pretty fast too… she looked around for her dad wondering how he was fairing.
