Meet Woolypaw of RiverClan (aka I may or may not make a minor return)

Woolypaw treaded through the familiar camp of RiverClan, a wide smile on his muzzle from being made apprentice just yesterday. He was sad to leave Mother, but the excitement outweighed that. All the older apprentices had filled his head with tales of their patrol escapades and narrow brushes with death and he couldn't wait to have his own stories to tell. Though, he did question their truthfulness... There was no way RiverClan had that many bears in it. Right??

Nevertheless, the idea of fighting (or rather, escaping- there was no way he was beating a bear) a bear filled him with the kind of excitement that spread to his toes and made him bounce a little as he walked. He approached a warrior, respect tinting his expression. "Would you by any chance like to go on a patrol with me? I assure you I'm a very fast learner, so I won't be a hindrance. We can bring other apprentices too, so it's not awkward. Please?" He widened his eyes a smidge at the last word, hoping that his kit-like features would convince the older cat. Mother was always telling him he looked young for his age. Maybe he could take advantage?

Twigsnap glanced warily toward the fresh-kill pile.. It seemed the previous hunting patrol hadn't had much luck with the river, today- the pile was startlingly low, and what remained was hardly food. The perches were so small, Twigsnap doubted a kit could fill themselves with it..

Woolykit- no, no, Woolypaw, Twigsnap corrected himself, recalling the young tom's recent ceremony- approached, breaking him out of his current train of thought. Twigsnap couldn't help but give a small chuckle as the apprentice began to speak- Woolypaw was far more polite in asking warriors than he had been as an apprentice; and the light-furred tom was hardly out the nursery! "Of course, Woolypaw. Gather a few of your denmates- how do you feel about hunting in the river?" Twigsnap paused for a moment; did the white-furred tom know how to hunt..? Probably not- though Twigsnap was sure Woolypaw's mentor wouldn't mind him giving the lessons instead.. Teaching apprentices near water almost never led to a dry return to camp.

Woolypaw smiled as widely as he'd allow himself. He didn't want to grin like an idiot in front of a warrior, else he might not take Woolypaw seriously, but he was over the moon at the prospect of hunting by the river. He thought of all the animals he might see- fish, of course, voles, rabbits, rats... Maybe even a heron! "Oh, thank you thank you! I promise you won't regret it. The river sounds great, will I get to swim? I think I'm big enough, now. I won't get swept away! Well, unless there's a storm. But the sky's ever so clear today!" He looked up at the azure expanse above him and remembered that Twigsnap had told him to gather his denmates. Turning on the spot (after giving the warrior a "sorry I'll be right back"), he padded over to the apprentices' den and called out. "If anyone wants to come on a hunting patrol, come on! Twigsnap's bringing us to hunt by the river!"
