Finally, it was time. Her apprentice, Birdpaw, was ready to become a warrior. They’d fought alongside each other, and she learned quickly and efficiently. Regardless of who she was born to, she’d proven that she was ready to earn her name. So, Briarthorn called out across camp from her position on the Tallbranch, ”All cats old enough to catch their own prey, gather beneath the Tallbranch for a Clan meeting!”

In an instant, Birdpaw appeared under the Tallbranch, eyes glittering. For once she'd kept her fur clean, making sure she looked presentable as she settled in in her mentor's shadow, chin high and a toothy grin starting to show. She knew exactly what this was– or at least, thought so. And she was rarely wrong.

As soon as Birdpaw’s pelt was within view, Briarthorn nodded inwardly to herself and prepared to cite those words, this time to an apprentice of her own. She’d finally done it. Judging by her neatly groomed pelt, Birdpaw knew exactly what was happening, too. ”Birdpaw, please step forward.” Once she’d done so, Briarthorn continued. ”I, Briarthorn, call on our warrior ancestors to look down on this apprentice. She has trained hard to understand and live by the ways of your noble code, and I commend her to you as a warrior in her turn. Birdpaw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code, and to protect and defend your Clan at all times, even at the cost of your life?”

A shiver ran down her spine as Briarthorn spoke, calling out her name. So she was right- this was her ceremony. Stepping forward when she was told, Birdpaw dutifully held her tongue until she was prompted to speak, to which she nodded. She couldn't hold back her grin anymore, even for the sake of appearances. "Of course. I do, Briarthorn."
Breathing in, then nodding, Briarthorn continued. ”Very well. By the powers of the StarClan, I give you your warrior name. From this day onward, you shall be known to all as Birdchaser. StarClan honors your determination and bravery.” Briarthorn leaped from the branch and then moved forward to greet her now former apprentice. ”Congratulations. Remember you are to sit vigil tonight, as the rest of the Clan sleeps. I’m proud of you.”
