A visitor

Batsong sat alone in her medicine den. She was slowly … slowly learning all the herbs. Their uses, names , where to find them. She recited them over and over constantly testing herself over them. She had no formal mentor but she was doing her best none the less to self teach this very important job to herself.

It was difficult … she felt overwhelmed… like she was learning everything too slow. She was windclans only med cat and was an apprentice med cat at that.

She was being way to hard on herself but she didn’t see it that way. At any day she felt worried that one of her clanmates would be injured and that she wouldn’t know what to do. When bracken wing was hurt at the gathering she was so glad she and blazepaw had gotten her out in time before more hail could hurt her.

The constant worry about not being good enough weighed heavily and she had not slept well for many night often times found looking over more and more herbs trying to memorize them all.

She heard pawsteps outside and her ears twitched. She poked her head out of the den and spotted whisperpaw. They looked tired, more than usual perhaps even.

She waved to them with the tip of her tail and smiled softly. The shy she cat beckoned them over with a flick of her tail.

“H-…h—Hey you” she meowed quietly

She tapped her paw against the hard floor of the den

“T-there are s-some herbs f-for energy if m-maybe you want to t-try?” She asked them quietly looking at them with a caring grin. “I understand if you d-don’t w-want to but who knows it might help ?” She suggested with a shrug of her shoulders

Batsong purred happily as Whisperpaw agreed to at least try and see if it would help.

She had to strain her head forward and listen carefully to catch they's words as it was barely audible now from the injury.

She wasnt actually even able to hear every word her lifelong friend spoke but she got the general idea of it.

"y-..you are w-welcome... I hope it h-helps" she replied with a smile

They's next question was much harder to answer... she did like it here but it had been stressful to learn everything and she felt like the weight of the clan was on her. She felt like she was behind where she was supposed to be but also felt that there was nothing more she could have done to do any better.

There was no one to train her officially and she had to figure out alot.

However... Windclan needed a med cat and she was going to do her best to make sure that they would all be taken care of.

"its ... a challenge ... " she admitted to her close friend.

Batsong again had to strain pretty hard to hear what their young friend was saying but she nodded smiling.

"I w-would like that alot" she purred.

Setting the herbs before whisperpaw she explained to them what some of these things did and how she might use them.

"These are foxglove seeds" she points to them with her tail

"They are used for heartattacks... but only in desperate last attempts because t-they ... they can ma-make it worse too ... only use them if a c-cat has a heart attack and nothing else is working out okay?" she purrs to her new "apprentice" for the day.


Hmm this over here is Parsley ... it helps bellyaches b-but never g-give it to queens because it m-messes with th-their milk okay she says half to herself and half to whisper.

she organizes the herbs best she can as well as she goes.
