Flickering Light (Solo)

Ashstorm seemed to never truly be at peace. Sleepless nights from anxiety were normal, zoning out because she had too much to think about happened many times a day. She tried to do the best she could for the clan, but she felt like she kept falling short. She hated that feeling so much. The feeling of that she would never be worthy or being deputy. And if she was not worthy of even that, how could she be worthy as a leader.

To clear her cluttered mind, she decided to take a walk. Rain had just fallen, leaving the scent in the air to be that nice new rain smell and the weather to be just cool enough where it was comfortable. Her tall dragged behind her, collecting some dirt along the way. Every now and again a large drop of rain would hit upon her head from the trees up above.

Her ear flicked back when she heard something begin to come towards her. She paused. One moment later, the largest fox she had ever seen leaped forward, tackling Ashstorm to the ground.

Its large fangs snapped at her, scraping her skin and trying to find the way to her neck. With her powerful Skyclanner legs she pushed the beast off of her. It whimpered a bit as it flew through the air, but soon was back in a fighting stance looking towards her. She rushed forwards and wildly slashed her claws around it, causing tremendous amounts of red liquid to fall the earth below.

The fight went on for quite a while. Both were bloody and their flesh were torn. Ashstorm's wounds stung, and she was panting. One more blow to the fox would kill it.

But she was too slow.

The fox's jaws were around her neck.

Ashstorm fell to the ground. Blood spilled. Ashstorm gasped and choked as the blood made it hard to breathe. She knew what was coming. She knew this was it.

Her life flashed through her mind. The first time she opened her eyes and she saw her siblings, the time the Asylum came, when she had her children and when she first became deputy. Everything.

Himbo Bob, kids, siblings, Birdsong... She thought. Everyone, I'm coming. She coughed loudly, choking and running out of oxygen. Bloodstar, Ravenclaw, Beechfang... Everyone take your time, but I can't wait to see you again.

Her eye lids dropped. For just a moment she felt at peace.

And just like that, the bright light that she has had her whole life finally flickered out.
