Poppyshine
Poppyshine spent the past couple of days reflecting on what Rushtalon had told her. She didn’t quite understand why he had felt so despairing at her being friends with Owlshriek. The more she thought about it, the more she remembered their rivalry as apprentices. Had that not just been a friendly rivalry? They were related and so she thought they would be on good terms, but that did not seem to be the case. Their passive aggressive behavior—or outright aggressive behavior—had only become more obvious to Poppyshine in hindsight, and she felt foolish for not having realized it any other time.
Now, however, she would do something about it.
She gave out a few patrol assignments to some of the warriors and then her eyes caught sight of Owlshriek and Rushtalon a few paces away, waiting for their own assignments. She walked over and gave them both a smile in greeting. “Rushtalon, Owlshriek—I hope you both are doing well today.” Poppyshine took a breath and mewed, “I’ll want you both to go on a patrol together. Owlshriek, I can take Stormpaw today.” She caught Rushtalon’s eye briefly and hoped that her message came across clear enough. She’d mentioned it briefly to him the night they’d spent together, about how Owlshriek was not a bad cat and that she hoped the two of them could get along some time.
“Be sure to bring back plenty of prey,” Poppyshine concluded to the both of them. “I’ll see you back in a few hours.” With that, she left them to organize themselves while she left to look after Owlshriek’s apprentice for him.

A few places existed that Owlshriek had yet to take Stormpaw to. The young apprentice was rather small to go to all of them in one trip, so the warrior had been intending on building his stamina to allow him the energy to travel for a long period of time around their territory. Today, Owl was hoping to get border patrol in order to achieve this. Stormpaw would then have seen every notable place on their territory. Then, Owlshriek intended to quiz him on all he learned so far, in order to judge if they were ready to move on.
Yellow eyes caught that of Poppyshine, and the warrior brightened, meeting her gaze evenly. Maw opened, and he went to speak his suggestion when the deputy spoke herself. Falling silent, the tom blinked owlishly back at her. "Huh?" He began, finding his voice to argue. He had lesson plants today...! But, she already turned her back. Maw agape in a mixture of confusion and outrage. The tom hadn't done anything to hide his distaste for Rushtalon. But no one dared put them together for long periods of time--
Except for Poppyshine, of course.
Jaw clicking shut, Owlshriek shot a glare in Rushtalon's direction. "We are heading to the Sunningrocks. Don't get in my way." He announced, standing up and leaving Rushtalon behind. Wouldn't be his fault if the other warrior couldn't keep up. Besides, fishing would be easier for Rushtalon because it would mean less movement as he was recovering. But, he didn't make that choice because he cared about the mousebrain. No, he just didn't want to show up with less prey than possible. Because it would make Owlshriek look bad.
Mood instantly soured, the tom informed Stormpaw that Poppyshine would be taking him out that day, and stalked out of the camp, not looking back to see if Rushtalon got the instructions through his thick skull.
