Even in the darkness of the Dark Forest oppression, Coyotegrin still felt... Giddy. It was a warm feeling in her tummy; it came and go but she realized one day why she had this feeling... Hawkheart. Thinking about her life, Hawkheart and her had always had each other. The quiet tom always seemed to just be ahead turn away, quietly there. They had each other at the Gathering, she seemed to be the only one he tolerated. They slept next to each other, and it seemed to be getting closer and closer. It left her wondering if that meant something... Anything. Did he just consider her a friend? The annoying she-cat he couldn't shake off? When Coyotegrin wasn't thinking about Whisperpaw or Fallowpaw, or tasks Shrikestorm gave her, she was thinking about Hawkheart. And eventually, she realized, she had... feelings for him in a way she couldn't put her paw on. It drove her nuts- what does a cat do about such a thing? It concerned her... Was it bad?

So of course, as Coyotegrin does with all aspects of her life, she decided to confront it head-on. Shrikestorm had given her a task to check out the Lone Stump, so she decided to ask Hawkheart to join her. Usually, she completed these tasks alone, but having Hawkheart with her just made her feel more confident. They walked now, side by side.

"What do you even do all day when I'm not around, Hawkheart?" She teased in their usual banter accompanied by a soft shoulder check.

Hawkheart, quiet as always, watching from afar or butting into something he shouldn't. This day was similar to all other days, though the tom couldn't deny the certain... constant he always wanted, almost always had. Coyotegrin was only ever a step away, always with him, always there to make trouble for him. It was wonderful having a partner in crime, someone that was always there. The large tom had always harbored a certain... fondness for the molly, whether it was her annoying him or otherwise.

So when she asked him to accompany her, how could he say no?

The warrior silently lumbered along beside her, never dreaming of denying her request. A should check was there to bring him back to reality, and he looked down at the molly beside him. With a soft huff, Hawkheart was silent for a moment. What he did when she wasn't around... "I don't know, wait for you to get back? I'm not exactly the most talkative tom in the forest." Green eyes watched their surroundings, grass covering most of his sound as he stepped through. Hawkheart had to wonder where Coyotegrin was going with this...

Coyotegrin's pelt burned hot for some reason and she looked away, pretending to look in the grass for some hidden lurking predator. The only predator here, truly, was the rat biting her tongue as she formed words to retort back. "M-maybe that's why it took so long to get your name." She finally retorted back before the quiet steps brought a quick silence. Before she could truly think it through, she blurted out a very forward response. b]"Why don't you just come with me then? Shrikestorm wouldn't mind a little more muscle."[/b] Honestly, these tasks would be more interesting with him around... The warrior bit her tongue. Why didn't Goldenstar or Ashfall teach her how to navigate this?

Hawkheart let out a snort at Coyotegrin as she stumbled over her words. Though it quickly stopped as she blurted out her next sentence, and heat spread through the tom's pelt. "Well-" he padded along, doing his best not to stumble as he tried to think for once about his next words, "I mean I am already here with you. I may as well? I would've done it regardless though... just for the record." His words trailed off into mumbling toward the end, the large tom looking anywhere but his companion as they continued toward the Lone Stump.

Coyotegrin nodded in acknowledgement when he spoke and tried to find the words to say as the neared Lone Stump. Taking advantage of the distraction, Coyotegrin lept ontop of the stump and smirked down to the large tom. "Finally, I'm taller than you Hawkheart. You look... Smaller than I would have thought." She raised her head in a cocky grin, still peering down at him. A small swish of grass caught her attention and she glanced up behind Hawkheart to see a path in the lush grass being formed. Her eyes narrowed, trying to figure out what the mass was. As it neared, her heart started to pick up a beat. "Hawkheart, I see a dog. It's coming for us at a very fast pace. I'm pretty sure it can smell us." She whispered quietly, slowly slinking her way off to her stump and pressing close to Hawkheart. Of course, seconds later, a loud yip soon turned to a full on bark and heavy paws raced for the pair.

Coyotegrin leaped to the top of the stump, and commented on his... "smallness". "Yeah, right. Come back to reality and you'll remember I'm the big one here." His eyes narrowed at the molly's cocky grin, and he was about to leap up himself to whack it off her face... playfully of course, when it became clear she was focused on something beyond him now. Dropping into a crouch, the tom listened to Coyotegrin's words carefully. Not a trait he usually had. "Behind me. If it charges it is far less likely to break me in two than you, I'm big after all. What are you thinking? Run, or fight?" Claws extended into the earth below, anchoring himself for whatever was about to come his way.

Coyotegrin positioned herself at his tail-end, one side against Hawkheart and one side against the stump. She too, braced herself with her claws out and eyes blazing. She twitched her tail. "I say we fight. I heard dogs will chase and chase, and get even worse if we run. Let's do this." As she spoke the words, the dog came crashing through the underbrush and came to a halt. It was almost surpriseded to see the cats, it seemed, but it didn't stop it from lunging forward. It went for the first cat it saw - Hawkheart. Teeth bared, the dog growled and lunged. He gripped Hawkheart in his jaws, not fully quite able to wrap around him.

Seeing her close friend get bit by the black and brown dog, Coyotegrin launched into action. With a yowl, she darted around the dog's legs, swiping at its sides and darting in a blur. Finally, her speed really would be helpful.

The tom braced himself as Coyotegrin spoke, watching the dog get ever closer. "Then we fight." The dog stopped for a moment, as if surprised, and Hawkheart nearly ran at his enemy, yet remained anchored to his spot, wishing to draw its attention. Coyotegrin was much faster, she'd be able to get around and really hurt that dog. He was a bit better as a furry shield. That was exactly the case as the dog finally rushed Hawkheart, getting jaws around part of his shoulder and biting. With a pained yowl, the warrior wrenched himself free of the dog's grasp, blood running down his shoulder freely.

Baring his fangs, Hawkheart leapt back at the dog, toppling it. He wasted no time positioning his full body weight on it, biting down hard as he allowed Coyotegrin to do what she needed to. He wouldn't let this dog leave so easily!

Hawkheart used Leap-and-Hold, dealing 7 damage and using 15 stamina! The dog is pinned for 2 turns!

The dog was overwhelmed by the chaos these cats reigned on him, and letting loose of his grip on the first cat, the dog thrashed about, desperate to get a good bite on one of them.

Coyotegrin continued dashing around the dog, relieved to see Hawkheart being released from the dog's grasp. He was bleeding, pretty badly. They had to get this dog to leave, or kill it Thrashing out, she hailed furious swipes in every side of the dog.

Hawkheart shifted his weight to keep the dog under him, try as it might to escape. He'd give Coyotegrin as much time as possible to hurt this thing, even at cost to himself. Thankfully, no claws or jaws had gotten him as he held down the dog, though his wound stung fiercly. As the dog attempted to wriggle free, the warrior sunk his claws deeper in, biting down wherever he could.

Hawkheart continued using Leap and Hold, dealing 7 damage and using 15 stamina! The dog is pinned for 1 more turn!

Coyotegrin glanced to Hawkheart. His wounds bleed profoundly and his grip on the dog seemed to be weakening. She needed to do more. The dog only seemed to grow angrier by the minute. She lunged and latched on to the dog's stomach and started thrashing her head side by side to try to tear out it's stomach while clawing it's sides. They needed to end this, now.

The dog's anger grew as well as his desperation. Yowling as his stomach was savagely ripped at, he started to shake, slowly standing to his paws to rid himself of the brown cat.

Coyotegrin used Snap causing 8 damage and 7 stamina. Coyotegrin used Desperate Blows causing 5 damage and using 7 stamina.

The dog is no longer stunned!

The dog finally rose, knocking Hawkheart away with a violent shake. The tom landed on his paws, charging back at the dog. It was all he could do to swipe at the beast's flank, trying his hardest to force the dog down to the ground. He would be Coyotegrin's shield. He wasn't fast, or very smart, but he could take blows. He could be her shield. He would be her shield.

As the dog rose, shaking the two of them off, Coyotegrin fell back, panting. The dog's attention still seemed to be trained on Hawkheart, who kept the dog's attention, and maw, on him. With an enormous growl, she watched as the dog lunged for Hawkheart once again. It's large and savage teeth pierced through his skin and fur. Finally, her rage boiled over. "Stay away from Hawkheart!" She shrieked, launching herself at the dog. She landed on it's back and sunk her teeth into its neck. Blood covered her pelt, but she was not wounded for now.
